I have 394gb of installed games. tounge.gif

Can anyone give me advice as to how I would go about removing old thermal paste from a CPU without damaging it? Or is it fine to just overlay the stock preapplied thermal wax with new Artic paste w/e?

Cant be bothered to order that when I'll only use it once. confused.gif

I have been trying to stretch out my stock cooler to the limit whilst waiting for my new cooler to arrive. Thought this was a bit weird though:

Why can't all 4 cores be that temperature! it's almost 10*C cooler than the other 3! lol tounge2.gif 3.33GHZ @ 1.10v on stock cooling seems to peak at about 76*C, except for that pesky core peaking at 68*C. I think thats about as high as I want my temps to get right now.

This i5-760 seems to be a great overclocker, i'm shocked it's completely stable at this really low voltage. Can't wait to get it to 4.2ghz+ soon.

If you clean your PC I'm sure you'll be using it more than once. Besides, at a price like that it's worth it.

Or you could use 99% or 100% isopropyl alcohol (available at pharmacies or chemical stores) with some cotton. That's what I do.

Do NOT apply new paste over dried layer of old paste. The point is to keep the layer as thin as possible, in fact, there shouldn't be any layer of paste, it's only supposed to fill out the gaps in between the processors and the cooler. The method I usually use to remove old paste from the CPU and the cooler is to gently (gently being the operator) peal it off with something soft, like a plastic spatula or something. I use this sort of a tool I got when replacing my mobile mask - it has a small flat relatively soft surface.

The higher temperature on one core could mean that your CPU is not seated properly or that you have applied too much paste. This would be the recommended way to apply paste

The i5 came with pre-applied thermal wax, so 'too much paste' probably isn't the reason for it. I read that it has something to do with how long it takes for the wax to seep into microscopic valleys or some sh*t like that, haha. tounge2.gif

I've also read that it's best to scrape the old stuff off with a Coffee filter, oddly enough. The thing I've been reading is the Artic Silver thermal paste instructions PDF. biggrin.gif

You think that until the next time! Warlord recommended me that stuff more than a year ago, still have it and must have used it 15 times or more tounge.gif

Don't get a GTX460 period.

Get this Sapphire 6850. Not only is the 6850 cheaper than the 460, it's faster too.

Woohoo my new toys arrived today, a new keyboard (Microsoft X6) which I am struggling to get used too and a new Samsung F3 spinpoint 1TB drive which is going to be dedicated to nothing but steam biggrin.gif .

I have to admit I love SATA it is just sooooo much better putting a hard disc in over the old crappy IDE. Just slap the HD in the caddy, whack the caddy in shove the cables in and hey presto. It took me all of 5 mins to add a new hard disc.

Now I just have to wait 14 hours for it to copy my steam folder over to the new hard disc mercie_blink.gif and that is at a speed of 77mbs/second.

I am also just 2 games shy of having 100 games on steam and now thanks to the extra disc space I can get all my games downloaded and installed again (84 out of 98 games installed).

Next upgrade is the big one, a new CPU and possibly a new GPU if we actually start getting any f*cking games that warrant it.

Mkey has 175 games on steam. 0_0

That said, half of them are mini-games by indie devs. yawn.gif

Only 98 games? Tight git tounge2.gif

Ha in my defence most were bought full price day of release all the others were bought during steam sales and I have yet to even play the damn things. That is why I have been taking it easy this year with the steam sales. Having said that I think I have still blown 50 quid over the past two weeks on stuff I will never damn well play but for some reason I just have to get it because the price is cheap. I swear to god I was a shoe buying whore n a former life tounge.gif .

It's not the biggest piece of news, but it kind of shows how console players are spoilt pricks most of the time.

PC Gamers Are Winning the Vietnam Platform War

this also means that new map for vietnam must be close.

It's already unlocked, and it's pretty much as fun as the other maps. Meaning not fun. In my opinion any way.

wow, I knew the console playerbase had a higher percentage of selfish kids, but what the hell...

Also, with any luck I'll have some new stuff on steam before year ends...

Ubisoft used a cracked exe from RELOADED for the PC game Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 after a new patch broke legally downloaded versions of the game.

Imagine how awesome gaming as a whole would be if groups from the scene started making games inlove.gif.

This was a few years ago I remember reading about it. And Ubisoft has gone even worse with DRM since then. The only people who got hurt because of their retarded DRM are loyal customers. And they fail to realize that much. Stupid ignorant morons.

Not only that but they also f*cked up last 2 Splinter Cell games completely. Technical issues on PC aside, Double Agent and Conviction sucked! Now DA on Xbox and PS2 was awesome. Story was great, missions were great. Sam even had a romantic interest and a really good reason to leave NSA after the events of DA. Also 98% of players chose to save Lambert. And what did Ubisoft do? Well, they decided that canon story is the one from graphically superior version with story that sucks, so now Sam doesn't have a real reason to leave NSA. They also decided that Lambert should be dead and Sam's daughter is suddenly alive in Conviction. Cheap pot twist that only exist because of lack of writing skills.

Ubisoft took a large sh*t on the franchise and now it's FUBAR. As much as I like Sam Fisher, I hate seeing Ubisoft rape his character. For the sake of the series I hope they make a reboot with a new character.

Yes, they had some securom related issue and they used the unpacked launcher in the update and distributed it. Like I said, old news and one of the reasons I don't buy Ubisoft games.

Just for reference, they are the ones who started introducing the all new, very intrusive game activation system that required you to be online all the time.

So... they were too lazy to fix the EXE themselves and used an EXE from a warez group?

Basically, yes. And then they went on another bender about roaring piracy on the PC.

It's really funny actually. Ubisoft uses the hard work everyone at RLD put into making the EXE and then turns against them lol.gif.

But hey, if you ever need to speak about Ubisoft's hypocrisy, this quote is it biggrin.gif.

Oh yeah Ubisoft is bad because of DRM blah blah...Well at least they tend to remove their DRM unlike other companies. On december 25-26th they've removed their 24/7 online DRM from AC2 after only 9 months. Like they did with PoP3 (removed Starforse) and Far Cry 2 (TAGES) and others. Not to mention that some nice games were fully DRM-free from the start (PoP 4, Shaun White Snowboard, Call of Juarez 2).

Companies like EA, R* etc still keeps DRM in their games. After 2 years people still have to deal with SecuROM in GTA4.

And about cracks - 1 more company to go:

All this talk of the i5 has got me thinking about getting one. My 9650 (@ 2.3 GHz) was no great CPU to begin with, now two years after first purchasing it I'm fairly certain it's not going to be able to run games at highest settings for much longer. Would it be worth upgrading that, but leaving my GPU alone? I don't think a 4870 512MB would be that much of a bottleneck, but then again I'm not the most tech-savvy guy out there.

I'll probably not be going through with this in the near future, but it'd put my mind at ease just knowing.

and dayumn, you guys sure put those HDDs to good use:
