i'm thinking of buying the 5770 as a replacement for my current card, the 4850, is this a good idea or are there any other better options that are £200 or under

I'd suggest looking at NVidia cards. The GTX460 massively outguns the 5770. Toms Hardware benchmarks say so, anyway. I picked mine up for under £150 including shipping (though it was on discount at the time) from IT247- Still on offer though currently out of stock.

thanks for that

So, I was playing Vice City (that I got in the steam sale) a bit and...

These controls. suicidal.gif

It only took me 10 tries before I figured that changing the damn flying controls was the way to win. Did they even test this mission with the default PC controls? You probably need to be an Octopus to do it properly.

hehe good old times.

I remember repeating that sh*t for like 15 times, in the end I had to develop a strategy to pass that mission. Then, a few days later I got to play it on my friend's PS2, with a gamepad obviously. There were no problems completing it, with a lot time to spare.

I did that mission second time I tried it. I couldn't finish it the first time because of controls so I changed numpad controls to arrows and now I can finish that mission blindfolded.

What does that have to do with anything? Both of those key sets are digital, aren't they? So there's no half throttle, only full speed in whichever direction.

Retail threatens Steam ban

user posted image

OK have you stopped laughing yet ? this is major :-

MCV understands that key retailers will drop titles that integrate the popular Steam service as fears mount that the service has a ‘monopoly’ on the download market.

That's right people that grotty little bin holding PC titles in the corner of retailers shop is going to be a lot emptier. At least two major retailers are going to DEMAND that publishers remove steam from their titles.

So basically put retailers have neglected and marginalised PC gaming leading to the rise of Digital Distribution and now they are crying "rape". Hm I can think of a ye olde phrase that says "you made your f*cking bed now lie in it".

I wonder if that means all Steamworks games too, which is basically all of them now.

I like both... I prefer having my physical copy and I really appreciate STEAM(WORKS) support for games.

But yeah, what the f*ck?

I think the retailers are clutching at straws now that Steam and D2D take up the majority of the new PC games market.

A low blow but not one I'm particularly bothered by. I like having online updating and support and the inflated prices in most high streets stores put me off. I'll put my money with Steam, thanks.

There are only a handfull of retailers here in Uruguay... so I don't really care... besides Steam is the future of game purchasing, why go to a rude guy in a retailer store that sells stuff overpriced when you can buy them without going anywhere at all? We all know Steam is making more profits for those companies than their retail anyways... poor stores think are in for huuuuuge pain...

EDIT: I somehow think MS has something to do with this...

This, if the publishers have to choose between coercion and profit, I wonder which route will they choose.

It's a done deal. These game shops are committing certain suicide with this ban.

Especially if you take into account most publishers have a policy of Money > All, I mean, how many stuff, like dlc, do they throw in to make more money?

I smell a bitchslap like the one Mr. I-Hate-violent-games-yet-I'm-terminator got for his court case tounge.gif

Three reasons why I use steam?

1. Convenience

2. Steamcloud

3. GAME SHOPS HAVE f*ck ALL PC GAMES

This is a poorly drawn MS paint image of what a game shop looks like in my town with there sections.

There choice of PC titles are the usual crap or old stuff like vice city. Which retails STILL at £15

The whole thing is a viscous cycle.

The PC gaming corner is actually ok. Or, at least, it was last time I went down there.

Pretty rough layout:

As nice as the PC section looks, it contains mostly kids (i.e. under 8) games and software for learning (e.g. how to pass a driving test). The PC section that actually contains recent games is probably just a little bigger than the counter.

The PC shelf contains a completely and utterly random assortment of games with no sense whatsoever to their order along with a sh*tload of WoW boxes.

Our local Best Buys have a fairly large collection of PC games though, used to have an entire fifty or so foot long shelving unit (both sides) dedicated to them, now they cut it in half by having all the games displaying side out, so the selection hasn't dropped, just the amount of space used. Though it could do with some serious alphabetization.

I started drawing it, and then i stopped and cried.

The only "PC" section I have is the 1-5 euro bargain bin. And its mixed in with PS2 and Xbox games.

Well it depends. Game Mania is one of the only 'decent' gameshop in Belgium. And it's also different from store to store.

My 'closest' Game Mania store has one big shelf for 'new' PC games and another one for 'second hand/old' PC games. And to be honest it's pretty fair in comparison with all the other (PS3/Xbox360/Wii). PSP gets shafted though (but yeah, no more UMD so).

The Game Mania further away from me in Antwerp is pretty much anti PC. If you enter there's nothing but Xbox360, a bit of PS3 and one little shelf of PC games.

But then again, most games they sell are overpriced. L4D is still 20 euros while you can get it for a couple of euros in the STEAM STORE. Same for S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

My local K-Mart has the biggest joke of a PC section, one copy of Black Ops, a few Sims 2 & Expansions and those budget crappy kiddy games & puzzle titles. Still my local EB has a pretty decent PC section with all the major releases from the last couple of years. Of course Australia is unable to embrace digital delivery as well as the US & UK can what with our lacklustre internet so retail PC games have a place still in game stores.

Yeah EB games has a pretty large range of PC games, with almost the same amount of space dedicated to consoles. Game is good too.
