I say wait for the HD6950 which Wiki says will be out next month. It's a huge boost from a HD4850. Make sure your PSU is good enough though.

Yeah, like stated at the top of the page, would any of these new cards (ATi and nVidia) would they work with a Antec 550w and a Intel Q9400. Is there enough power? smile.gif Thanks lads.

It's the most important part of the PC, and for some reason the most overlooked one.

I was thinking about upgrading my GPU. I have a 4850 and I'm looking at 6850. My 4850 was $180 at the time, and I see that XFX6850 is about the same price. So I think that's worth it. But I don't like to change what ain't broken. We'll see.

@Tommy-Vercetti19: You should be fine. Personally, I wouldn't get anything below 600W for a gaming PC though, but that's just me.

All I want is a single-GPU card that can run Crysis on max with 4x AA at 60fps constantly. Then I can be rest assured it will run all other games like that too. tounge.gif

We all have our dreams. wink.gif

For that PSU, from the 400 series, the GTX460 and anything below it will work fine. You could get a 470, which places the minimum PSU requirement at 550W, but I always like to have a gap of atleast 50W when buying video cards.

As for ATI, I'd wait for all the new cards to get released and then pick one. But from what's out now, a 6870 would be a good choice.

@OverTheBelow, Can't the 480 do that?

Yeah, at 1280x1024; but honestly, who games at that resolution and owns a 480? tounge2.gif

@Tommy-Vercetti19: I'd say you should wait for ATI's new line of cards and then compare price/performance.

How? wow.gif Mine done me quite well, played most games decently for me. tounge.gif

My 5850 plays Crysis on enthusiast at more framerate than I got with my 9600gt at minimum settings. It is terrible for this resolution of 1920x1080.

Not to mention the amount of times I had to RMA it because of overheating problems whilst playing cod6 at lowest. dozingoff.gif

When you replace your card, tell me what kind of a performance boost you got as I want to replace my 9600GT too smile.gif Got it for €21.50 though so can't complain.

Why the such high-end specifications? Is it used in multimedia production? tounge.gif

You'd be sickened to buy that and set it up to find out it doesn't work for games. lol.gif You'd be mad in the head to buy that for normal use anyways. lol.gif

I'm surprised how that site even has that card in stock, as i work down the road from them and there a trade only small time company.

I'm wondering if I should get a Radeon 6850 as a replacement for my sh*tty Geforce 8500GT..

It's PCI-E x16 2.1 but I only have PCI-E x16(Not 2.0 or 2.1).

I heard it'll run at half speed...

Yeah, people that use them are for example the company that made the Toy Story movies and other CGI movies.

freak22121: you heard wrong. My 5850 is faster than recent 6850 benchmarks and its installed in a x16 slot on my mobo. Don't worry yourself; apparently it doesnt even max out the bandwidth of ordinary x16.

Ah, thanks.

But I heard bad things of 2.1 running on 1.0 so I found one that's 2.0.

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?...1-374-_-Product

I can't get a 5850 though, it costs way too much for me.

Edit: Any recommendations for a PSU?I don't think my 300W one can handle anything more powerful than my 8500GT.

All they mean by 2.1 is that the card 'supports' 2.1 PCI-E slots on new motherboards so that it can take full advantage of them. Nothing special really, just a sales lure i guess. Heck, you can install a 5850 in an 8x PCI-E slot (half the bandwidth of x16) and still get 98% of the performance (literally).

What card are you planning on buying? 5770ish? For that you'll need atleast a 500w PSU. And yes, that 300W is barely scraping in the power for the 8800.

GTA3Freak-2001

The whole 1.0,20,2.1, PCIe thing is rarely a problem with most cards, the issues are mostly related to certain VIA chipset mobos with 1.0 slots in conjunction with the the old 8800GT which was the first 2.0 PCIe card around. On the whole all PCIe slots are backwards compatible with each version, unless as I said you were unfortunate enough to have the above issue.

Since you are looking at the 6850, the 5830 is slightly slower then it so that is another option to look at as is the 5770 which is again the next one down the ladder. Any one of these cards would be miles ahead of a 8500GT. As for a PSU, yeah 300w is not enough you'd want something like a 450w - 500w plus from one of Corsair's range.

Checked my mobo and it's G33 based so if I'm correct it will run 2.0/2.1.

Also found out that it has an on-board GPU taking up a slot. >:(.

Thanks for the help, guys.

If its really an onboard gpu it shouldn't take up any slot atleast a PCIe slot anyway.

This is a shame to all others awaiting Assassin's Creed Brotherhood on the PC...

http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/09/10/assassin...elease-slipped/

It's a shame for all the PC fans (of whom, I'm not one of them).

I'm sure the real reasons are similar to those we saw for GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas and GTA IV...ie. Sell the console version(s) first. Then, once the sales for that have died down (and/or once an exclusivity lifetime has expired), then release it on PC.

It's a bit different, though, as unlike Grand Theft Auto, Assassin's Creed was originally a console game. So it's almost fair game for PC "delays".

Sunrise Driver

It's been known for a while. Well if they release well-optimized game without sequences as DLCs then it worth waiting. I heard February 8 is a release date for PC.

@mkey, The 5770 is pretty much equal to the 4870, definitely not weaker by any means. I think the slightly higher cost is worth it for DX11 btw smile.gif.

Well, considering that they promised to release the game, and Assassin's Creed 2 before it, simultaneously on all three platforms, this seems an insult to all PC Gamers who like the franchise.
