I'd be surprised if GTAIV was announced for the PC at E3. In fact, I've pretty much lost interest in GTAIV altogether.

I've heard that Mafia II will be at the E3 but behind closed doors. I hope it's true. Maybe we'll get some new info because it's been awfully quiet lately

Offtopic: I just went through 20 pages of the GTA IV PC thread and, well, let's just say I'm so very glad this thread exists.

Yes, that was the main point. To concentrate quality and pertinent information a bit. And there is yet to come our first troll. The disclaimer thingy obviously works well biggrin.gif.

Besides Crytek are no worse than any of the other companies in Mkey82's pic, nothing but money grabbing bastards if you ask me.

They did show the intention to whore themselves to MS and Sony, but they didn't bash the PC. For one to earn their place on the wall he has to try and set back PC gaming at best of his ability. All of those assholes have tried to push PC gaming down in the gutter. They "moved on" on consoles and they will fail, miserably. Like jallar stated, when they come crawling back, we will have our satisfaction because we'll get the chance to say f*ck OFF YOU GOD DAMN WHORES! Ah, yes.

Hello, anyone there? The consoles aren't making a profit for their manufacturers. This generation is already haplessly outdated in the technological department, and they won't be able to make a profit on a new one. They're getting dimishing returns for each generation, less units sold for each new damn PlayStation they bring out.

Why do you think console titles are more expensive then PC games? They need that WE ARE CHEAPER motto, but they want more money also. So the costs get spread across. Less expensive ultra low quality unit, but more expensive actual gaming (via games and "golden" memberships).

Bethesda Softworks

- Fallout 3 (PC, PS3, X360)

I wouldn't opt for this title, as it's going to get seriously watered down for consolers.

Electronic Arts

- Mirror's Edge (PC, PS3, X360)

I'm awaiting this title the most. I'm not sure, but I think this one will be interesting.

Jallar, the publishers, however, are f*cking rolling in it.  Like anything else, it always comes down to money.  Now, we all know Carmack's a code monkey - he'd be more than happy designing scene demos for a living - so it's not too surprising that the superiority of PC hardware isn't a that large a factor for him.  Couple that with the sh*tloads of money to be had in developing and publishing console games, and the only question left is why anyone would focus on PC gaming anymore.

It's simply the state of the market.  While we, the gaming populace and PC graphics aficionados, balk at the lowly consoles, the businessmen only see the bottom line.

It's like any other entertainment market - new and exciting isn't what drives the market, it's the old and reliable.  Every once in a while we get a gem of stunning improvment, but they are sadly few and far between because noone wants to bankroll a step into the unknown.

To me, I see the future of PC gaming in UGC and community driven projects.  The largest strength of PC gaming is the community, the customization, and the flexibility, not just better graphics. I think, as gamers, we owe the PC something in this respect. We need to help, in some shape or form, to build the games we want to see.

That's what's funny, they get huge sums from Sony and MS just to bother to begin with, then royalties off the games afterwards, and they like this - but they don't realise that the game console isn't sustainable. In all likelihood there won't be a PS4. If MS decides to do a third Xbox it's purely on stubbornness. The models they have for hardware development, software development, manufacturing and pricing are not profitable. They sell less units for each generation they introduce.

I think the future of gaming is a hybrid of the two models, the open PC platform with Steam-like services that require a minimum of hardware to play games introduced. Like a version of AMD's 'GAME!' initiative on steroids and a full digital distribution scheme rolled into one. I don't think the proprietary platforms these console manufacturers have been pushing will last another generation.

I doubt this gen of consoles will be as successful as the last gen. They pay millions to draw gamign companies to them and that investment doesn't pay itself back. Consoles also suffer from bad hardware. The X360 has issues with heating and space with only a DVD drive.

The PS3 on the other hand is using cheap Blu-Ray drives which are too slow to read games properly(hence the installation), it is also way to hard to program on and when developers finally know how to use it capabilities fully the hardware will be so outdated it will just be replaced by the new generation.

In my opinion the true consoles are the ones from the past with each console forfilling their own sharw of the market, now(except the Wii) it is just one big marketing campaign and rally between M$ and Fony. M$ alone lost about 500,000,000$ with it's X360. Sony is a little different as the PS3 was more about winning the HD contest with Blu-Ray which they eventual won with help of the PS3 but also lost a lot of money with it. If the consoles were to live alone without sugardaddy M$ or Sony like the PC it would have died out after the PS2. Only Nintendo continues to keep it's own direction and look how they're doing!

All this fighting between the X360 and PS3 with exclusives, hardware, capabilities and price lost both companies a great amount of money and is damaging the game industry. I hope both companies see what they've done, count their losses and should just head their own direction with the new gen of consoles, if they don't I doubt consoles will live a long life.

Drunk Russian 9

Yeah, it's funny, Microsoft sees all these idiots swallowing their crap like obedient little whores on Xbox, and they think they can transfer that success to an open platform, where people have alternatives. Oh how their initiative will fail. Aren't all GfWL games Microsoft studios games anyway?

Am I right in thinking this, as I generally don't follow the lemmings when it comes to Console Whoring (not since the SNES have I done that... and never again). Is Games for Windows LIVE a subscription service? If it is then why are they saying they've seen what GameSpy does and want to do the same... so Microsoft are money hungry-whores who want money for providing a service that GameSpy provide for free and they want to introduce this to the PC Gamers market... are they seriously that effing thick. As jallar said the PC is Open Platform, so how will they be able to control it.

Im sure that the only reason Microsoft is charging for online MP on the pc is to keep their fanbase on the Xbox 360 and not make the PC a cheaper gaming alternative for MP. After all . . . does Gamespy offer you to play with console players? I do agree on one thing hoever. Most people will not play just because they have no access to a credit card. $50 a year is a pretty good deal if you ask me.

And yes, Microsoft is a bitch for trying to replace the PC MP by force. It would've been awesome if instead they offered the service, let the gamers who had Gamespy and Valve hold their ground if they wanted to or not, and decide on the situation itself instead of Microsoft deciding for you and forcing you to pay.

Well...

Sony and MS dont earn with hardware but with software. Their main goal is to push out as many consoles to lay down the base and then start earning profit with entertainment (games, movies, music etc.) and taxed services.

I think the downfall of PC gaming is actually the downfall of large gaming companies. Companies are afraid of the egg scramble that the PC community is because its hard to create a stable business plan for it. So far only Blizzard has had success with PCs.

And that is why I think theres going to be a renaissance in PC gaming.

The communities will replace big industries. The future just might be in indie games.

In projects like this:http://www.1944d-day.com/forum/index.php

What does this project have that current games lack? A fresh vision... urge to push boundaries.

Heck, you can even get the picture by looking at the modding community in this forum.

Guys like Switch Designs push out crazy mods that people like. And people like these mods because they are different.

In this case 2K has to announce GTA4 for PC!

OK, this is hilarious. Have you seen the auto aim? Oh my, it sucks. Firstly it pauses time, lets you choose the body part and then you "fire". Have you noticed how this guy cant hit anything without auto aim? He only hit that chap with a shotgun at one meter range. f*cking A!

The real time combat was fine, but pausing time to shoot people? were's the fun in that?

It's their idea of bringing Fallout to an FPS. Of course.. it doesn't work.

They didn't nail the atmosphere, or the look, or the feel of the world.. It looks like Gears of War with a vault suit. No thanks. This will be one of the easiest console whore games to boycott. tounge.gif

Didn't you notice? You can choose which body part to hit and select the target without any pressure whatsoever. And when you pause over a body part it becomes green wow.gifwow.gifwow.gif. It's like they converted Fallout into Solitaire.

Ehm, the original was turn-based. Much slower paced.

This is a bastard child of FPS and turn-based, and it just doesn't work. I was confident during the first announcements, but even before this video I was sure they had shot the franchise to bits.

This was my point actually. Maybe I failed to express myself through sarcasm, but this was my point. You shouldn't be able to pause time in an FPS shooter style game. Ever.

..unless you pull it off well, right?

Which I don't think they have. As far as I can tell, when you're entering that 'targeting' mode, it's still supposed to be the 'player' in control, right? Then I think, at the very least, things should be moving in slow motion. It's going to be interesting to see how the explain away this ability with the story.

Another apparent downfall is the Oblivion Landscape Effect, rather, the fact that you've got this wide open map that looks exactly the f*cking same no matter where you go. Really, someone must be making an effort to clean up some part of the city, right?

I'm not giving up hope yet. The whole concept of making friends with specific cults, etc, is great. I tell you - if I were making this game, then you could rally a group of people into going to war with another, and taking over over strongholds. I hope they get somewhere close.

EDIT - apparently, picking and choosing your targets depletes 'action points,' which somewhat makes it work.

I think Red Alert 3 will be great, actually.

RA3 looks good but I have some doubts. What I'm looking most forward to this fall is Far Cry 2. Mirror's Edge is a title I did'nt bother to really look at before now and it really looks intresting to me.

I think Fallout 3 looks great, I don't mind that ability to pause and choose what part to hit as its optional unlike Mass Effect but I do see the concerns with Bestheda pulling a Oblivion Fallout conversion. I like the atmosphere, the story, and the general feeling of the Fallout universe so for that I'll buy it.

I read that they're doing another Wolfenstein game...but it's also being released on XBox 360 and PS3, so it'll probably be another game to fall victim of consolization and end-up being a total failure.

I'm pretty sure in the Xbox version you had to. Since there was no way to hotkey skills, you had to pause the game, and select one everytime you wanted to use a skill.

To me, from that a couple of minutes long vid, it seems that Fallout has a strong FPS shooter component. For me, an FPS shooter game is about skill at aiming with your mouse. They are trying to replace it with this pausing "option". As it may be an option, the whole game will probably evolve around that feature. I think this is more then auto aim in GTA, where (thank god) you can skip it altogether as you should. For me this is a failure as they are willing to try anything only to accommodate some classic PC titles on consoles.

EDIT:

SynTerro thanks for the links. Check this Mirror's Edge analisys trailer also. It gives a bit more insight.

DML, this is what scared me about Mirror's Edge the most but as there is almost no shooting involved as apparently Faith refuses to use them is shouldn't suck. This seems as an action game ( even if from first person perspective) and those did well on consoles. And I do agree, we should avoid all consolified FPS (an other) titles. Even though, there is a difference between titles that are ported from consoles to PC and those that are being developed separately on all platforms.

It's not as bloated as it sounds.

You hit the Right Bumper, then you can quickly select the skill you want to use.

It takes all of 3 seconds.

No dough this post will get questions and and maybe even some fighting.

IMO Fallout is just another FPS. Nothing special about it. I'll just play Halo/Crysis/CoD/Whatever other 10000 FPS's I already have.

I just want GTA IV PC NOW!!!
