Some people say that they make the game look much more real, and that without them on the game is very drab and colorless. The TV that I play vice on is a piece of sh*t tho, so maybe you need like a high definition TV. When I first turned the game on I was pissed at how sh*tty the graphics were, but then I found out that the trails were on and i turned them off and i was happy.
