GTA III Player Skin Selector

Description
This is a simple CLEO script that allows you to change your player skin! Over 40 special skins are available, ranging from story characters, police officers, and even unused characters! Skins even persist after saving the game! NOTE: THIS MOD DOES NOT ADD SKINS TO THE GAME! It simply allows you to choose skins that aren't normally accessible via the ILIKEDRESSINGUP cheat.

Installation
Installation is simple! Just extract the .zip archive and copy the CLEO folder into your game directory. This mod is supported on both CLEO v1 and CLEO v2.

How to Use
When the game is loaded, press F12 to enter skin selection mode (laptop users may need to press Fn+F12). Use the left and right arrow keys to browse skins. When you've found a skin you like, press Enter to exit skin selection mode and apply the skin. You can also press Alt+F12 to quickly toggle between the current skin and the default skin (Claude in street clothes).

Known Issues
The game will crash if you attempt to watch a cutscene while using any skin other than the default skin (Claude in street clothes). The reason for this is not yet known. To circumvent the issue, the Alt+F12 keystroke was implemented (see above). Use this before watching any cutscene, or better yet, don't play missions while using a different skin.

Sad that we can't add our skins, I had some new Claude clothes. Still, good job.

I think you should change the title of topic like [iII][CLEO] or something.

I added a "III Released" tag to the topic, but I can have a moderator add "III" to the title.

 

 

Very nice.Althought I can't change my player skin to #3(it's freezing the game when I'm trying to do it),you've done an excellent work,my friend.

Great mod! I always wanted to play as story characters but I was disappointed the cheat ILIKEDRESSINGUP only changes you into peds and not story characters.

 

I have a question: I see you also included Police Officer but he is same as the police ped or am I missing something?

Interestingly, it's actually a different police officer model.

Here's a comparison:

The one on the left is the player (COP2) and the one on the right is a cop walking the streets. I'm not sure if COP2 is used anywhere in the game.

 

 

Version 1.1.And only skin #3 is freezing the game.All the other skins are working great.

I've done tests with versions 1.0, 1.1, and the steam version and my game never froze on skin 3. :/ I guess you'll just have to skip over that skin for now.

How did you get your copy of GTA III? Is it a storebought CD version or the Steam version?

Are you able to add Gang NPCs and Police NPCs? I know they're avaliable in the cheat 'ILIKEDRESSINGUP' but it would be easier to switch to those NPC's.

Anyway, REALLY awesome mod, I've always wanted a mod like this but couldn't find one.

I got the game with torrent. But the game doesn't have a problem with this CLEO mod.

COP2 is from the Intro cutscene for 'Give Me Liberty' AFAIK.

Bummer, I didn't think to test cutscenes. I'll look into this as well.

 

 

 

COP2 is from the Intro cutscene for 'Give Me Liberty' AFAIK.

That's what I thought too, but from both watching the intro scene closely and looking at the game's script, that doesn't appear to be the case. Both cops in the intro scene are the regular cop model.

I think that the "COP2" model was supposed to be used in the intro(before "Give Me Liberty" mission),but instead,the regular ones are used in the intro.

I was thinking that you could use a different button to load the ped selection screen for Gangs and Police, F5 for story mode peds and F6 for Gangs and Police.

Alright, so I did some testing to try to figure what's going on with the cutscene crashing issue. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be possible to fix. :/
From what it seems, the player model for cutscenes is controlled via the game's main script. Since the skin you're playing as doesn't match the model requested by the cutscene code, the game crashes. Therefore, I don't think it's possible to change your skin in a cutscene without modifying your main.scm file. It seems like the only way to circumvent this crashing issue is to switch back to Claude before entering a cutscene and switch back to the skin you used previously after the cutscene has finished. If you guys want, I can implement a feature that would allow you to quickly toggle between Claude and the skin you last used via a keystroke to make this task easier. :^:

I like your suggestion, however, from the tests I've done, it doesn't seem possible to change the player's skin to a ped skin via a CLEO script. The skins in this script are considered "Special" skins by the game and they differ from the regular ped skins. From what I can tell, it only seems possible to apply "Special" skins to a player using CLEO; regular ped skins simply don't work the same way as "Special" skins do internally.

The only way that I can think of to achieve the functionality you desire is to reverse-engineer the ILIKEDRESSINGUP cheat, which may be a very difficult task. Maybe one day, I (or somebody else) will figure out how to do this and integrate it into this script or an ASI mod. :)

Sorry for late reply but I just noticed now the reply. Anyway interesting that there is another cop model. I thought you added Police Officer so that people will not have to cycle through skins from cheat ILIKEDRESSINGUP, just like suggestion earlier with gangs.

So no way to implement switch to Claude automatically when cutscene starts?

From what I can tell, that doesn't seem possible unless you modify main.scm.

 

So I'm thinking about changing the key used to open the skin selection menu. Any suggestions as to what I should change it to?

While I did get it to work multiple times, it was purely by luck; there's no way I can guarantee the skin will switch in time for the cutscene to load. It's unsafe as hell though, you're possibly redeclaring the onmission flag. Plus it changes the skin for each mission permanently, it seems like a sketchy workaround.

Yeah, I was thinking that too, but I figured I'd try it anyway. Ideally, I'd like to have the script listen for when a cutscene is triggered, switch the skin back to Claude for the duration of the cutscene, then switch back to the user-selected skin after the cutscene has finished. Every attempt I've made to do this has lead to a race condition between my script and the mission script: sometimes the skin would change before the cutscene, but it could not be guaranteed that the skin would change because the cutscene may trigger before the skin is applied.

Great, just great. I've tested it a few minutes ago. Will you do a Skin Selector for Vice City too?

Cool! Yeah, I have one planned. Not sure when I'll get around to making it. I'll post in here when I do make it though!
