10/10 - It's Vice City, doesn't deserve anything else. (even on PC)

Yes, 10/10.

Still playing it nearly every day. If you are someone who doesn't care about graphics, this is still a great game.

Inadequate

10/10 - PS2

8/10 - PC -> Many features first seen on PS2 are totally broken or disabled.

  • Lovely and nice recreated 80's era feeling (over level 99999 80's feeling with Trails enabled).
  • Awesome soundtrack.
  • Nice cars.
  • Good story.
  • First GTA with various interiors.

Kind of difficult to rate VC... if you consider how dated some of the gameplay mechanics are (no swimming, lackluster shooting accuracy on PC) it's a 9 out of 10...

BUT, when you look at how the game evolved from III (so many new features, much bigger map, a hella new things to do) you already can tell that, back in 2003, for a sandbox open world experience, VC was already a groundbreaking game... However it's the atmosphere and the story that makes this game a legenday experience, which makes me give a 10/10 score.

6/10

Pros:

- Fully licensed soundtrack

- New modes of transport; helicopters & motorcycles

- More defined flying mechanics

- Unique 80s atmosphere; there was not much like it at the time

- Celebrity voice acting cast

- Larger weapon selection & weapon classes

- Improved visuals over predecessor

Cons:

- Small map

- Mostly flat map with a lot of unused space

- Shorter storyline

- Worse vehicle handling than predecessor

- Soundtrack is less varied than predecessor

- Mediocre PC port that lacks features

- Unlikeable protagonist; cold and inhuman

Vice City was my first real experience with Grand Theft Auto, and whilst it's still a good game, in retrospect I just don't find it to be that great anymore, unfortunately. I went back and played it last week for the first time in quite a few years, and I quickly found myself bored. Which really was alarming, considering that I'd played GTA 3 for a solid 32 hours the month prior and had an absolute blast. Compared to GTA 3, Vice City really just can't hold my attention or hook me. There's a lot of minor issues that hinder the experience, and I've covered those in my cons!

Vice City takes a lot of steps forward for the series and improves on a lot, but the fact that it was only released a year after GTA 3 absolutely shows. If more time was put into the game, I think it could have been much better. However, all things considered, it's still quite an achievement that they put together a game like that in such a short amount of time.

This had to happen, didn't it?

8.5.

Pros

- Orgasmic soundtrack

- The Vibe 98.8. No.. I mean I loved the vibe.

- Boats that are actually enjoyable now.

- Way better auto-aim than GTA3.

- SEAPLANES ZOMG SO NEXTGEN

- Tommy Vercetti is the best protag of the 3D Universe. He's cold, he's psychopathic, hell, he even wears suit similar to the one in Scarface.

- Storyline was great.

Cons

- Sorta outdated visuals.

- Physics are terrible.

- The helicopter handling is quite iffy and isn't as smooth.

- The iOS port is kinda bad.

- Gameplay feels outdated, I noticed this when I went back to play GTA Vice City. Goddamnit, GTAV, stop pulling me back with your loveliness. Anyways, you can get used to it.

- Why no drinking? THERE'S A FULLY FUNCTIONAL NIGHTCLUB WHICH IS THE BEST NIGHTCLUB OUT OF ANY NIGHTCLUB IN THE SERIES, EVEN BEATING F*CKING MAISONETTE 9, AND I CAN'T WASTED THERE?!

- PC Port is absolutely terrible. But hey, it's R*. They make amazing games, then f*ck them up when they port it to PC.

Voted 10 out of 10. If I could I would give it 11 out of 10.

My favorite Grand Theft Auto alonside III. There's so many things to say about it. It was an instant classic! Still play it to this day and it never gets old (it's been 12 years). Amazing storyline. Amazing characters. Amazing voice actors. Amazing city. Amazing vibe. Amazing gameplay. Amazing side-activities (odd jobs, hidden packages, rampages, collecting cars, stunt jumps, etc.) Amazing soundtrack. Amazing everything :)

image.jpg?w=400&c=1

Only thing I dislike about it how amazingly stupid the cops are and how amazingly easy the game is, but everything else makes up for it.

I don't have anything to list about pros or cons. Vice City was just one hella of a Ps2 game back in the day for it's time. I mean being only 2002? That was amazing what R* could accomplish by making grate sandbox games that turned out to be a high selling franchise.

9/10. Despite the dated visuals(which sadly deducts the score by one) of the game, GTA:VC still remains as one of the most amazing games that I ever saw and played in my life.

Pros:

  • New vehicle types such as motorbikes and helicopters
  • Brighter atmosphere in contrast with G.T.A. III's gloomy atmosphere
  • Clothing options, such as Soiree, Mr. Vercetti...
  • Camera
  • Many movie references(with Scarface being most prominent)
  • Deeper story
  • Talkative, yet psychopathic, protagonist(Tommy Vercetti)
  • Hunter
  • More upbeat and memorable soundtracks than G.T.A. III
  • Ability to buy assets/properties

Cons:

  • Skin options only applies to Street outfit
  • Camera only appears on a mission for Steve Scott. Even if you manage to take the camera through that mission, or SCM modding, the game won't save the captured photos to the computer.
  • Removal of AK-47(though it reappears on GTA:SA as a starter assault rifle)
  • Inability to swim
  • Nothing much was changed from G.T.A. III, especially the HUD(this was because GTA:VC was originally developed as an expansion pack to G.T.A. III)
  • Some features that could bring some more realism are missing, such as loan sharks(a similar system was implemented on GTA:SA)
  • PC port suffers from the same draw-distance bug as G.T.A. III, especially on low-end systems
  • More accessible interiors would be useful...
  • ...and the impossibility of fueling up cars(though there are modifications that enables that feature).

GTA: Vice City is the first G.T.A. game I ever played(along with GTA:SA) in my almost 10 years of G.T.A. history. With lots of new vehicles(such as Oceanic), motorbikes, its authentic atmosphere, the protagonist(Tommy Vercetti), and challenging missions(such as Demolition Man and Boomshine Saigon), GTA:VC still remains as one of my first video games(though not the first) I ever owned and enjoyed, and still has it's own appeal despite it's age.

In a way, I look at Vice City the way I look at Jimi Hendrix's second album, "Axis: Bold as Love." Not as groundbreaking as its predecessor, nor as ambitious as its successor--but so much...character! So much charm! And still probably my personal favorite of its "trilogy."

Offtopic: It's a great album. They all are. My favorite is "Are You Experienced" (and the Woodstock live album), but later albums were full of gems and deserved more recognition.

Story, characters, and lines - 10/10

Gameplay - 9/10 [ I subtract 1 point due to the aggressive police and their spawning system ]

Protagonist - 11/10 My favorite. So, obviously. I am biased here.

Soundtrack - 11/10. Love it.

Atmosphere and immersion - 11/10. Nothing beats VC. Hands down!

Overall - 9.5/10. Voted - 10

A truly unforgettable gaming experience. My favorite.

If you mod the game, then it just gets even more better than ever!

I rated it Eight out of Ten.

Like:

The introduction of Helicopters, and Motorcycles.

A great Soundtrack consisting of 'Nothing But Hits' from the Eighties.

The introduction of a voiced Protagonist.

Dislike:

Inability to Swim.

Rushed Map development, particularly on the 'Mainland' especially around Little's Havana, and Haiti.

To be honest, it wasn't my favourite in the series.

To be frank, no matter how much it'd break someone else's heart: it's a 6/10 or a 7/10 for me.

One of the best wanted systems I ever seen along with great shooting mechanics.

What? They have actually aged badly, in comparison to say, San Andreas which improved in both of these areas, and its pretty much known to everyone and yet you see this improvements of SA as:

an underwhelming shooting mechanics, wanted system.

I'm curious to know, did you even play these games, or just have a strong bias.

One of the best GTAs in 3D era (tied with VCS for me), so it has to be either 9 or 10 out of 10. Since I'm generous let it be 10, as it gave and probably will still give me countless hours of fun.
