Can Vice City work without the 80's?

Yeah, the neon aesthetic that you see in game actually flourished more in the very late 80s/early 90s than the early-mid 80s.

Please everyone that want to see Vice City in the 80s : answer me why you want Vice City in the 80s (all reasons) and what you dislike about Vice City in Modern Era, after this we will talk it out, without getting mad or insulting (i don’t want salty people)

Why do I want Vice City in the 80s? Because I enjoy the 80s aesthetics. Actually, Vice City isn't a neccesity, I would just like an another 80s GTA game. And Vice City is pretty much tied with the 80s in our minds.

Yeah, but what I mean is what specifically like about the 80s aesthetics (the architecture?,the cars?,the music?,...etc...)

Personally I would like to see a gta vice city game in present some days (before I die) to see, how well it would work without the iconic 80s, I mean to be honest Liberty City had both been in the early and late 2000s, Los Santos have been in the mid 90s and early 2010s, so I would like to see how it is in Vice City, I know a lot of people will get mad at me for my opinion, but I would just like a fun innovation for modern times (also because Miami had not a lot of skyscarpers in the 80s and was smaller)

Personally, I think it wouldn't be as good. A large part of what made Vice City so memorable was the music and setting. I think it would work obviously but it wouldn't capture my interest as much or appeal to me. I just have a huge love for 80's style, there's something about it.

Although I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't play the hell out of it. As long as they had an 80's station too, I could work with it. ;)

As long as they make a good story and that the city is enjoyable, it could work

lol.... Anyone saying Miami is "boring", wouldn't work outside the 80s or is like LA(🤣🤣🤣🤣) clearly never been to the city in their lives or don't live in America to begin with. Miami is more relevant to the American pop culture more than ever since the 80s.🤣 Like seriously people? What other alternatives are there in America unless we go back to New York or LA? lol. Its also a big city with lots of crime and is still dealing with drugs.

Miami is much more than the 80s and Scarface era. Its where celebrities go to relax and retire. Miami beach is America's rich elites playground. And its an extension of Latin America UNLIKE any other city. Its where every sexy broad goes to party and get "loose" and also breast/ass implants. It also where there is a gap between rich and poor. You telling me that the "Capital of Latin America" is boring? Yall need to go to Miami on the weekends or during spring break then come back and tell me if its "boring." Miami is probably MORE degenerate with many people still sniffing coke than it was during the 80s.

And who the hell wants to go back to the damn 80s outside of listening to old soundtracks. #$%^ that... I wanna drive a modern Adder with a sexy Brazilian migrant in it while balling on Vice Beach during nighttime. lol.

Edit: Miami is probably MORE Caribbean/Latinized than it was in the 80s lol.

no because the setting will lack a "theme" (not the game, the setting)

- gritty, dangerous (III)

- neon, glamoru, sunny 80's (vc)

- "raw", hot dirty 90s (SA)

- cold, run-down concrete jungle (IV)

- bright fake-plastic hollywood style (V)

What can a vice city in the 2010s bring on the table?

Plastic looking? done

Sunny city? Done

Run down atmpsphere? Done

I'm not saying you can't set a new game in a modern vice city, but the setting shouldn't be just a new map layout, but a total new (and never dove before) character.

Lets see... lol

  1. Tropical theme. Not done.
  2. Latin American theme. Not done.
  3. Rich vs poor theme. Not done.
  4. Resort/vacation party theme. Not done.
  5. Human trafficking. Not done.
  6. Nightlife theme. Done but very limited in TBOGT
  7. Gate way for American drugs theme. Not done.

If you think Miami only offers sunny and plastic then don't know what to tell you.

You see, that's the thing... Miami is purposely showcasing the minimal glamour life we have left in hopes of TOURISM and COMPANIES, also holding on to those past "glory day" memories, come on down and spend that money our city needs... Truth is we are a poor city that's actually running out of the drug money that built and sustained us! There are no mansions on the mainland and there is no safe area. Crazy, right? Now we mainly import already established entities and use them to invest in the city and then piggy-back our way back into fame, take Brickell for example... It's mainly just banks. Banks all coincidently built during the bail out era... Other half residential... The rest of the city looks like the country Jamaica, and not the tourist spots either. We're even building the flat iron building from Manhattan... What? Such a corrupt and under-handed way of handling a metropolis..

Since the greater majority of Miami is actually a gun-saturated, drug riddled, self economizing, third world city; we've under gone heavy gentrification and commercial zoning in hopes of ACTUAL rich and powerful entities moving in and help clean up the "look" and "feel" of the city to that of what's being portrayed in the media to you folk.... Truth be told, some buildings here are actually empty shells bulky by a dummy corp investor then left for to be bought by bigger companies and then filled in as we go along... Most people here make it a life goal to move out, even if it's just to Broward.. Sad I know, but that's how wild it is..

Basically, we ran out of drug money and decided to invest remaining drug money into making Miami look appealing for investors and tourist because if we actually showed the real Miami NO ONE would give money to this place. It's so bad out here...I could turn to a life of crime by joining the justice department. Between the Haitians, Cubans, the mayor, the Jews that help the governent launder, corrupt customs department, and the drug trade, being alive or out of harms way is a lot harder than you think here

Google it... Everyday someone is shot, killed, kidnapped, robbed, a cop(s) is/are slain, drugs are caught by the hundreds of pounds, police chase, drive-bys, corruption, illegal immigration, someone is ALWAYS, and I mean ALWAYS, comes up missing on a daily, etc.... We even LITERALLY had zombies, google it... Google everything I type... Trust me it's the perfect GTA waiting to happen

Yep. You made some of the best posts in this thread. People on this site really don't grasp how wild Dade County gets on all levels of crime. Miami/VC is much more realistic for a GTA game than LA or NYC and yes I am from NYC but been down to Miami many times. I know what you're talking about. Everyone ethnic group is in on it. Outside of Miami what alternative city can you even do? Chicago? Houston? Atlanta? Las Vegas? San Francisco? Detroit? None of them(including Las Vegas) makes the list except maybe Chicago. But Chicago is more of a little brother to NYC than Miami is to LA(not sure why people compare the two when there not even the same in looks or culture).

And like I said Miami is much, much, much more diverse than it was in the 80s. A Vice City game would be like Max Payne 3 in Brazil but only a bit toned down. Mainland Vice City would be like the favelas. Miami is basically Latin America/Caribbean in the USA. There is NO city like that here in America.

See, that's the thing... Coral Gables and Coconut Grove aren't safe place either! More so The Grove than Gables... It's called The Grove and nicknamed so waaaay before 2004... Sorry SA fans... There's literally only a nice mall area in the grove and the rest is dangerous, especially after hours... And, on par with New Orleans is not the question... The question is, why is Miami not Chicago? Th who were are on par with and maybe even more dangerous and killings... Cause it's only in Southside Chicago, here, it's ALL of Miami. We're even starting to gain a biker gang/trailer park boys type of crowd bring in acid and heroine to Miami. They're mostly quiet

I have family in NY and that place was a lot worst in the 90's... Now it's safe as hell... In comparison to Miami, it's a dirty paradise... Way safer than here.. No exaggerations. I have NY friends no associates who regularly joke how New Jersey is becoming the new Miami in terms of crime.. I frequent NY (driving) and can tell you that people are just shysters and know tourist when they see one...

Scenario... In NY you'd get robbed at knife point at worst and asked to give up the goods, worst get stabbed or cut... Walk away with your life. Even if it's at gun point, there's a very high chance he won't kill you if you cooperate. You only get shot in NY for business/personally reasons, but you knew you knew you had it coming

Vs.

In Miami you'd get robbed at minimum gun point and asked to lay down. At best, you walk away hurt and maybe shot in the leg... Hoping to walk away with your life. At worst, you're shot, possible fatally and everyone within a 20 yard radius was also in fear of getting shot cuz the gunman is just shooting aimlessly in your direction. AK47 is the standard gun out here, nothing less, and you can get shot randomly ranging from botch robbery to stray gunfire... even on the highway while driving

Th 80's were wild but the late 90's and 2010's are the Wild Wild West times... Cuz now, it's not about hierarchy and code, it's about whoever got the biggest gun wins... Whether that gun is bought off or muscled, the best product or the most connected... The biggest gun wins..

All this while tourists get their Caribbean on in the sun on an island away from it all

I know I'm lowkey spamming this thread but you making good points. As a New Yorker I agree 100%. Dont get me wrong NYC is NOT super safe. Go to Brownsville or East NY in Brooklyn or the South Bronx. Gangs still have guns but its very RARE that they use them and if they do its over. NYC is a police state. You don't see full scale gang shootouts. Heck even when it comes to organized crime you don't hear much noise outside the Albanians and some Chinese gangsters doing human trafficking. The Italian mafia are basically endangered and have been chased off to Staten Island(which wasn't even in GTA 4 lol) and parts of the Bronx. But yea NYC is mostly safe and is getting gentrified at a fast rate. Heck Bed-Stuy Brooklyn is safe now. Yea you have some kids in Brooklyn with that stupid Woo vs Choo sh*t(if you ever heard of Pop Smoke) but Brooklyn for the most part is not THAT dangerous. It can get dangerous at night or during the Caribbean parade if you at the wrong spot but NOT THAT dangerous and guns are rarely used. And there's police at every corner.

Miami? Goons are walking around with AK47s and Dracos like its nothing in the Gunshine state. And organized crime is all over the place. People forget this recently happened.

In fact as a NYer I'd go as far as to say that GTA 4/Liberty city is probably one of the most unrealistic settings for a GTA game as NY is a police state and gun laws are strict af. Miami? Would be 10x more realistic.
