Journey_95
I'm replaying VC currently on my Ipad and the atmosphere of the game is still outstanding. More than any other GTA game it relied on the 80's charm.Do you think a Modern Day VC could work? Do you even want it? MrAlexxV

DaWiesel
Yes it could work and I want it. Miami has a much more bigger and better skyline now. And we could have Synthwave music! 80's nostalgia guaranteed. Yeah, a modern day Vice City could work, definitely. Xing of Virtue
I bet this topic was inspired by my previous post in "The next GTA shouldn't be set in the present" about VC in the 70s and SF in the 80s. OT: Of course it can, modern Miami is so much lively and beautiful than it was in the past. Besides, the idea of another Vice City in the 80s has turned into a cliche over the last decade. The Mysterious One
If the likes of Burn Notice and the Bad Boys movies can work in Miami outside of the 1980s, then why not? Even 2 Fast 2 Furious worked in some way. B Dawg, The Dedito Gae and GTA-Biker

GTA-Biker
I don´t know much about present day Miami/Vice City, but I guess it could work with late 90s or early 2000s (something like movies Bad Boys or 2 Fast 2 Furious, which were set in Miami around that time period). Lemoyne outlaw
im sure it can work. los santos in gta 5 reminds me of vc and i love los santos. ive never been to miami but i have been to florida and it is beutiful. i would love a modern vc. and they can also bring back other characters too. like yusuf amir for example. universetwisters
Making Vice City in the modern era would be just like Los Santos in V, but with a much more prominent separation between class. Hell, even where I work (a few hours north of Miami), I've had to deliver to really f*cking nice hotels that're literally around the corner from slums. But at least with it being in the '80s, you've got the time period of when drug & gang crimes in Miami were skyrocketing pretty much nailed down. That and I'd like another past setting, as opposed to seeing the modern day for the third time in a row. Vik
As a person that lives in Florida,it would be great to see this implemented.Miami is great and there is multiple varied locations throughout the state. It would be awesome seeing the 7 Mile Bridge replicated. Algonquin Assassin
I don't sse why not. I think some people have watched Scarface and/or Miami Vice too many times and think it can only work if it's centered around the cocaine boom of the 80s and everyone must wear a pastel suit and drive a Lamborghini Countach. Modern VC would be great with the influences of Bad Boys, CSI Miami etc. It could have a dark tone with a sunny backdrop. Please do it R* and I don't think it would feel anything like GTA V's LS. Two completely different cities with different subcultures. GrudgefromSanAndreas, MrBreak16, Liberty-TG and 5 others
universetwisters
...Please do it R* and I don't think it would feel anything like GTA V's LS. Two completely different cities with different subcultures. Their subcultures are quite similar though, beach bums and tourists and gangbangers. Even though you get most of them in every beachey city, though. But still modern day stuff is just another sh*tty excuse for Rockstar to dish out their "social commentary". If anything, they should snarkily commentate on the 80s (Regan, cocaine boom/Escobar, cold war, etc.), rather than reusing the same jokes from IV they ran through V. BlackSnow176
Not sure. I would love to see a version of Miami inspired by Dexter, and with a similar plot (like they did with Scarface) if it's gonna be another modern day game. Hope the next game is set in Vice City, it's the only major city left to do... although they already did a huge and sunny metropolis with GTA V. Perhaps they'll choose San Fierro to avoid similarities between Los Santos and Vice City. American Viking
I think so. There is nothing that says Vice City HAS to be tied to the 1980s. Just like any other city in the GTA universe, they can put it to any time period and I think it would work. Rockstar always seems to find a way to keep me interested and make the time period engaging. I'd love a Vice City in the 1950s or 1970s though. mcorleone_9015
For sure, however it would need it's surroundings (the Everglades, Key West from Monroe county, etc). And unlike V (where they put too much work on the ocean), the ocean would need a good focus since Vice City is practically in a peninsula.

Flachbau
All depends on how well the story folds out. A game can take place in literally any time period, as long as the story doesn't have major issues.. just look at Assassin's Creed games (the good ones, lol) Ivan1997GTA
Niko Montana
Sure it can. It just won't have the same feeling and atmosphere as VC & VCS, which I personally think suits Vice City best.

Zello
It could work but we just had two modern day games recently with IV and V I don't wanna see something set in the present again. If the next game is set in the present it would really suck doesn't matter if it's Vice I'm just tired of the modern day setting right now. Wherever the next GTA game is set and what time period it's in I hope it's not in the present. It would really recycle a lot of the same jokes we've seen, same themes, yada yada... Give me something in the 70's, 80's , or the A modern day VC though could be like Burn Notice Edited September 26, 2015 by Zello Emmi and GTA-Biker
