Time Trial #3 "Great Ocean Highway"

Thanks guys, hopefully that's the key. It could, since i pretty much maxed all the bikes, all the way.

But bikes are probably the most durable thing in this game, they can take ridiculous amount of abuse. And to be on a safe side, i also bought the best armor to all of them! :D this was one expensive trial.

I hate this one. I can get 2:05.5-ish all day long but can't seem to shave that last second, and unlike the last two, there's really no obvious ways to improve; you just have to wheelie more, cut every turn of the highway close, and hope the traffic doesn't make you have to weave around a lot. After a number of attempts I never seem to get that perfect run. I tried the T20 just a couple times and got rammed by GTA-style sudden-turning NPCs.

I feel like they could increase the par times on these by a couple seconds comfortably without ruining them. It's a little obnoxious that they're so hard for most players, and that you can really only pull them off using the best 2-3 cars or best 2-3 motorcycles (and that, only with excessive wheelie-ing - though I did beat trial #1 with an Akuma). They definitely need to be challenging, but the # of attempts I've needed to beat each one is pushing them over from "challenging" to "maybe too frustrating to bother with," for me.

These time trials are challenging. They're probably the most challenging thing in the game since I first discovered "Death From Above"!

I agree, that adding two or three more seconds would allow more players to complete it, while still making it a challenge. It's something that not everyone should be able to complete, but right now I think it is way too hard for most people.

On the last one I spent about six solid hours on it, and before I finally got it, I always got to the end two seconds late no matter how hard I tried. It was really soul destroying.

I had repressed all memories of that mission. Thanks.

Sorry about that. I know them feels.

At least it gave us a legit reason to own a Rhino :p

I got two seconds late on the last one a number of times, too. I started figuring out later that if I didn't get past a certain stop sign near the Alamo Sea by whatever time code, I just wasn't going to make it, so I'd reset. Haven't figured out the landmark/time on this one, but I imagine entering the tunnel under Zancudo is what I should be looking at.

As for Death From Above... yeah, I remember my first few laughable attempts at that mission. So hard... so damn hard. Now I take pleasure in playing it occasionally and finding ways to actually pull it off. I don't know if they made it easier at some point, or if I just know now how to approach it. It can still be a nightmare to get out alive after you snap that photograph though.

I bet the last time trial is paleto bay to the LS docks or something. The easiest trial so far was the first one.

It seems that you should hit the tunnel at about 1:40, little YouTubeing could provide earlier benchmarks.

I mentioned that yesterday, my best time so far entering tunnel was 1:38+

I was in the tunnel at 1:38 and was going to make a 2:01 (I'm sure of it), when .... I hit the pieces of wood sticking up in front of the yellow flag, and was hurtled off into oblivion.

I don't know about you guys, but the hardest time trial for me was the Observatory one.Granted, I suck off road, but well I didn't rage at all, almost...Failed it like 10-12 times before I did it.

Failed the first one 2-3 times before I did it, and the 3rd one(this one) one time before I completed it.

This one, is, however, the easiest one so far, IMO.

I've been spawn killed by modders and people in tanks but nothing in GTA has made me rage as hard as this f*cking time trial.

Dunno where to post this so I'll leave this here.

(Time Trials spoilers, do not open if you don't want to get spoiled)

There are 22 time trials.

All pictures are in left to right order from 0 to 21

So far we had #9 (Del Perro Pier), #4 (Observatory) and now we have #3 (Great Ocean Highway)

There are also descriptions, random order (one is missing).

-From its pristine beaches to its evaporating lakes, San Andreas takes water quality (if not quantity) seriously. See an epidemic waiting to happen on this time trial from the pier to the reservoir.-Canoeists, hikers and eco-fascists have had dibs on the only breathable parts of San Andreas for too long. Strike back for fossil fuel enthusiasts with this short time trial through Tongva Valley.-Like every great American city, driving across Los Santos is a matter of one long, straight road, fender-deep in mangled pedestrians. Breakneck time trial from the Maze Bank Arena to the Sisyphus Theatre.-From the Palmer-Taylor Power Station to the suburbs of LS, this is a time trial for anyone who's taken a big lungful of Los Santos smog and thought "couldn't this air be just a little bit more polluted".-On a rainy day a human body can float the length of the LS Storm Drain in just 12 minutes. Get up close to the Los Santos circle of life with this not-so-simple time trial: precision is your only chance.-This time trial on one of Mount Chiliad's most perilous faces is a golden opportunity for show-offs and reconstructive surgeons alike. Remember to book a bed at Mount Zonah Medical Center before you set off.-Like a wild-eyed junior exec trying to impress on an extreme-sports team builder, risk soiling yourself all the way along the Raton Canyon rapids. Time trial from the Pacific shoreline to the Alamo Sea.-Time trial along the classic route that has inspired generations of poets, pilgrims, rednecks and sex offenders with its connecting remoteness and absence of meaningful law enforcement.-The death of American industry hasn't just provided rusty subject matter for your Snapmatic albums, it's created lots of edgy, supercar-friendly racetracks. Time trial from the sawmill to Davis Quartz.-Nothing violates the tranquility of green hills or lonely desert roads as efficiently as competitive motorsport. Kill two birds with one time trial all the way from the Vinewood Bowl to Paleto Cove.-Battle VIII Like every post-hipster tourist with a camera phone, take a tour of crushed dreams in the Alamo Sea and think about what filter best captures the sadness. Time trial for the Snapmatic generation.-From the old economy to the new - escape the industrial wastes of south LS with this time trial out to turbine-covered hills, where global warming's being delayed one sliced up bird at a time.-Complex time trial that takes you from the glamourous peaks of the Vinewood Hills to the grimey troughs of the Grapeseed shoreline. Sober up fast - there's no easy route.-Morning Short, technical time trial up to the most picturesque suicide spot in the county. Be a statistic that matters.-Mix a large cocktail of Junk Energy Drink and amphetamines because this is going to be a long drive: epic time trial along the length of the Golden State.-For once, let a low-T CEO on his daily commute scream at you instead of his executive assistant. Time trial out of LS along the one-percent-crammed Great Ocean Highway.-Follow in the panicked footsteps of deserters, waterboarded detainees, and peace protesters who didn't think the wars would go on this long. Pacey time trial away from Fort Zancudo towards the city lights.-Start your day like a pro: play 8 hours of Casino blackjack with your remortgager and divorce attorney, then wash it all down with a time trial through North LS to a Vinewood Hills mansion you'll never own.-Update Lifeinvader or watch the road. Shout at your kids in the back or crack one off to the fragrance billboards. Welcome to a cross-state time trial in the land of the free.-Brutal time trial down the slopes of Mt. Chiliad: if you're going slower than a freefall, you're probably a coward.-Get a beach body the American way. Eat a four pound, microwave-fresh burger then hit a time trial from Up-n-Atom to North Chumash. Just hope catastrophic heart failure doesn't hit you 'til next year.

EDIT: Thanks to funmw2,

He found the function for the time trials.

auto sub_c87(auto a_0) {    switch (a_0) {    case 7:        return 0;    case 21:        return 1;    case 3:        return 2;    case 2:        return 3;    case 1:        return 4;    case 13:        return 5;    case 4:        return 6;    case 8:        return 7;    case 5:        return 8;    case 0:        return 9;    case 6:        return 10;    case 9:        return 11;    case 19:        return 12;    case 14:        return 13;    case 10:        return 14;    case 20:        return 15;    case 17:        return 16;    case 15:        return 17;    case 12:        return 18;    case 16:        return 19;    case 18:        return 20;    case 11:        return 21;    case 22:        return 22;    }    return 0;}

"case" is the time trial and "return" is the image. 0 would be the first time trial/image and 21 would be the 22nd time trial/image.

It also seems that R* cut one time trial (there is a case 22 and return 22 which would be the 23rd time trial)

I just wish there was an option to restart the trial from the beginning, instead of having to drive all the way back to the god damn parking garage and up the ramp to the top when I fail...

My first time was in my Armoured Kuruma, just for the hell of it. I finished at 2:16, so I thought I would definitely be able to do it with my Bati on the first try. Nope...Keep getting around 2:10 with flawless driving. Guess I just need to wheelie more.

Why don't we just start the time trial, stay in our vehicle and get a mate to give us a lift in a cargo bob?

I noticed that I was able to start this time trial while in passive mode. I could not do this on the first time trial for sure (I tried). Just a small change I noticed.

#21 - 01:16.600 is the Mt Chilliad one right? Oh no!

Nope.

It's for:

The Mt Chilliad one is the last time trial.

I found the function for the time trials textures and I'm going to send it to WildBrick so he could update his post.

Managed a 209 in my akuma. Need to learn the shortest lines on that big wide freeway. Presume the rumble strips slow us down.

Supposedly not, per some random dude on the internet. My attempts today also suggest that they don't - I still haven't beaten the trial, but I've started using the rumble areas a lot more liberally in an attempt to get straighter driving lines and more room to wheelie, and my times haven't changed much. If they slow you down at all, I bet it's by only the tiniest amount (unlike, say, driving on dirt).

If I had a dollar for every time I've failed...

...I'd be able to buy a few bottles of Pisswasser.

That's not the point though - I'm a Commissioner in a Racing Crew! ...if I don't complete one of these soon I'm going to have to demote myself!!

me being (in the past) a lieutenant in nonchalant dominance did not preserve me from failing these trials thousands of times...
