Solo Wing Pixy
Hi all, I've been getting this GFX_D3D_INIT crash quite frequently ever since I transitioned over from X360 to the PC and its getting really annoying. Can anyone who have encountered this issue and fixed it give a fix for it please? It occurs randomly throughout my time playing GTA:O. Specs: - Intel Core i5 4690k (Reverted to stock clock speed to prevent any crashes) - ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO Z97 Motherboard - 8 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 RAM - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 GPU - Corsair CX 750W Semi-Modular PSU (yes I know its a crap PSU but its not the cause of the issue) - Crucial MX100 256 GB SSD - Seagate Barracuda 2 TB HDD (Game installed on HDD) All the drivers are updated but the issue still persists. Graphics setting are on High/ Ultra (mixed) with J.J Abrams Lens Flare mode enabled (forgot the actual name for it) Edited September 21, 2015 by Solo Wing Pixy MythAlex
jackrobot
Do you have Geforce Experience installed? I was getting the same issue (as have many others) on a daily basis and removing it fixed it for me. Others have suggested switching from DX11 to DX10 and also deleting d3dcompiler_46.dll and d3dcsx_46.dll and let them download and install on the next boot up, but I found that to only be a temporary fix for me. I also have the 970 and found that Geforce Experience was buggy from the get go but it could just be my rig. I do occasionally have it happen but it's quite rare (maybe once a fortnight) and that's having a whole load of mods installed as well. Anyway bud, I hope you find a solution that works for you cos it can be a right pain in the arse. MythAlex
Crimson Flam3s
I have the same issue always happens when playing online after an hour or so. Using a 4690k and strix 970. I will try the fix from the poster above. Thanks! MythAlex
BobDobalina
Hello, I have a MSI GTX 970 Gaming. Also got the issue often. After I was annoyed too much and support was absolutely useless, I changed to DirectX 10.1 and I do not encounter crashs yet. But I also don't play that much anymore since the game is the worst game I ever played in the point of bugs/crashs (of coruse the game it self is great!). Most of my buddies are annoyed about that sh*t too, so they are not motivated to play either.... mhm. BTW: The support also posted this to me after I told them the crashs with the same message you got: Einige Programme sind uns auch bekannt: diese sind TeamSpeak 3, GeForce Experience, die optionale Programme von Asus (free translation: They know some programs, that may occur crashs: Those are TeamSpeak 3, Geforce Experience and optional programs from Asus.) So that you also have an Asus Mainboard (I also have one) and maybe use one or more of those programs, this may also help
SlaveZer0
its an issue with the gtx 970 in general....enjoy
Crimson Flam3s
I started getting this issue recently and never before so I doubt it's just because it's a 970. I read turning off AA helps and I have done that. No crashes so far but I have played very little online so I need to test it further. Just use dsr and you won't need AA. Crimson Flam3s
I turned aa off and haven't had the crash again. Using dsr to compensate.
Scalesdini
I get this problem generally once every 6-8 hours of gameplay. i7-5820k, EVGA 980 Ti SC ACX2.0, Win10. I play in 4k, no MSAA/FXAA. Tried reinstalling game as error suggested to no avail. Borderless windowed isn't an option (severe stuttering), neither is changing DirectX to 10. Always happens to me in a menu before or between jobs in online. Only played SP on PS3 so no idea if it happens there or not.

BobDobalina
Playing @ dx10 isn't a "FIX" for me Agreed. Since there is not a big difference between dx10 and dx11, but a bigger in AA off or on, this seems at least to be a part solution. a game, that frequently crashs is more annoying in my opinion. however this is of course not a fix.. but it looks for me, that rockstar gives a sh*t about that. so the only thing you can do now is, to try if dx10 works at least stable and then hope, that rockstar maybe is interested in fixing this problem. philbeau
If my gtx titan black is overclock at +115mhz, I get this error all the the time. Ever since I use +113mhz I never had this problem again. So underclocking your card a little might help. Never had any problem overclocking my cpu (4770k) from stock to 4,6ghz. So I would keep your overclock on your cpu if I were you (if you have a good cooling).
