Modded GTA V crashing after new update

Sup folks,

I've recetnly wanted to pick up gta again.
Upon starting, I had to download the new update all was well until I loaded story mode.
Initializing story mode, my game crashed without any specific message other than "gta has been shut down unexpectedly yada yada yada"

I quickly deduced the problem was somehow related to the new update and thus I deleted my mods folder and tried again. Single player worked whereas online did not, unfortunately.
Expecting script hook to cause problems with gta:o, I simply simply delted my whole game folder and replaced it with a "clean" backup.

I've now tried out both single player and multiplayer and both works but I wonder if there's still a new way to install car mods.

I'd preferrably use car mods and a native trainer along with it.
