I'm the only one who hates Michael?

Yeahh, sorry, but everytime people lists the interesting aspects of Michael, i can't help to disagree, A ending completly kills Michael character for me, i still remember how he tried to guiltrip Franklin for killing Trevor, even though he helped (and kills him if you wait enough) i get it, Trevor is a mean man that only 12 year old likes, but what about Steve Haines and Devin Weston?

Devin send a deathsquad and Steve blackmailed and bossed Michael all over the story, in which scenario is this the best ending?

That ending only amplifies his undesirable qualities (his hypocrite and "poor little me" attitude) if i get an ending where Trevor happens to kill everyone for meth and rapes Chop, i'll be damned if i said i like because it fits his LULZY#RANDOM#CRAZZY attitude, it would just make it worst.

I never said it's a "good" or "satisfying" ending. It's not. It's written and designed that way. But it's appropriate. V deals with futility, the system's complete control of the individual and the idea of people never truly changing. All these themes come to pass in the A ending. For all changes Michael's made in his life, for all hope for the future he had, he was still unable to break free of the system. In the end, he still played by the rules (hello Dimitri!) and the system, in this case personified by Devin and Haines, got off free. As it always does.

What I don't like about the C ending, even though it also ties up the theme of the game well, is that it allows the trio to prevail and come out of their defiant last stand victorious. I just don't think, with the way the game was written up to that point and the way the GTA world works, that they would, or should, be able to just break free without any negative consequences.

I agree that Trevor and Franklin are more fun to free roam with, but I like Michael's character and background the best.

... got off free. As it always does.

Ohh yeah, he got free, je always got off free, that's why i created this thread.

He's the backbone of the story but he's full of corny cliches, his backstory is neither tragic, relatable or interesting, he created an ally in Trevor and then tried to destroy it when he had enough, destroyed his past life and betrayed everyone to get a life he thought he wanted, tried to better things for his family, spoiled then rotten, cheated on his wife numerous times and raised two useless f*cks, he's truly useless and a terrible family guy.

And yet, i have people saying "He's awesome"

F*ck yeah he gets away with it, he always gets away with it.

@Midnight Hitman

The system got off free. Michael did too, sure, but the point of the ending is that Steve won, that he successfully used a tool to get what he wanted and didn't pay for his sins. He's the one living happily ever after while Michael willingly did the dirty work for him and through doing so, compromised his beliefs and burdened his conscience.

I think the problem is that we're both seeing the ending and Michael's character from two different viewpoints. I don't think Michael is symphatetic or completely justified in his actions (though Trevor did deserved death). However, I still find his character interesting, in spite and because of his flaws. It's the same reason why people like Michael Corleone so much, even though he's hardly a person you'd root for.

hmm, are you saying then that he should of stayed in the life of crime to massage trevors ego instead of thinking about his family? should his family of been second choice? any smart person would put their family and children first

yes at first it dragged them down and made them greedy, sometimes you have to say, enough is enough, michael getting out at the beginning was that moment

as for his kids being useless f**ks, most teenagers rebel against their parents, you dont love them any less, he might not of been a great family, but hes still a family man

No.

He should had quit and go quiet, cut ties with everyone, instead, he ratted his crew and took all the money to live a luxury at the expense of his friends.

I like the idea of C because it shows that while society won't change anytime soon you can still thrive. You can control your own destiny even if society has completely fallen apart and even if you have to cheat and steal to get there. They know there is no redemption but in a way they win at life anyway.

I don't like him, simply because he's fat, he seemed cooler when he was Michael Townley though if that makes any sense.

Michael is not fat, he just got a little bit of a gut, but fat he is not.

Gotta be honest, Michael was the only V character that I liked. I like his complex personality from a family man to a treacherous bank robber. He is a lying, snitching psychopath, and that is the reason why I really like him. Ned Luke's performance is fantastic and he really brought the character justice. I think he is one entertaining son of a gun. He's a well written character in a mediocre story. I didn't like his family drama, but other than that he's a great character in my book.

I can't stand him either. They really let the Michael character down though.

  • Initially presented as a tough, secretive, highly-skilled criminal.
  • Gets gritty and has appearance of money, connections, power etc.
  • Let downs because: gets tough, but then gets man handled by Natalia's boyfriend, that FIB douche, etc.
  • Hasn't the criminal reach that was presented in trailers and the start mainstay of the "heist" storyline.

I honestly can't stand any of the characters. Now that the Niko mod is doing good in Los Santos, I am beginning to create screens and a storyline in my head that GTAV characters were responsible for Kate's death, and Niko is going to settle the score. But no doubt about it, GTAV world is the incredible "keeper" of it all.

I have to agree. Michael was simply not the criminal mastermind and intriguing character he was made out to be before V was released. I really thought his story and background would have me engrossed, but largely fell flat for me. He was no real big shot, he only managed to get away with his crimes by cozying up to corrupt Feds, telling lies to, and backstabbing his fellow robber friends - I do find that aspect of interesting though, but it don't make him some big robber baron though. And that family stuff I could do with out. I don't mind it in very small doses, but V went so overboard with it.

I don't hate him though, still my second most used guy after Franklin.

I think this only really feels like the case because we only see a small part of his history. While I agree that he doesn't feel like the super-bad-ass crim we're supposed to take him as, the dialogue indicates that, prior to his OK-Cupid moment with Dave Norton, he really was an infamous, notorious stick up man. But because we only see one intentionally-bungled job turning sour, it's really hard to make that leap and believe that this whining old jerk is anything more than, well, a whining old jerk,

The family stuff could have been handled better, that's just facts, but it's necessary for him to have this dysfunctional family to illustrate where he's at in life, where his deal got him - he's basically reduced to being a fairly standard Hollywood husband at this point. The family stuff could have been much darker and would have been all the better for it. If Tracey hadn't been so over-acted and if Jimmy had been less of a self-indulgent prick, with both of them being played less for laughs and more for drama, his family life could have been much, much more meaningful and had some emotional impact. But it was just a little bit too amateur dramatics to really hit home.

Still to this day, the thing I hate most about Michael is the transformation after meeting Solomon. He just becomes the most unbearable prick imaginable, and this absolutely wasn't necessary.

I guess what I'm saying is that if Michael's story had been the only one, had been fully developed and focused on, and if it had been dialed down to the same bleak, drab, griminess of IV's tone, it might have been much more tolerable.

I'd like to bludgeon Michael's son.

Especially during the yacht mission, like who does that sh*t? And his dialog during the drive is the most cringy sh*t ever in a gta game. "I can't get a job and its your fault." -jimmy ds

I'm not much of a Michael fan as he has little to offer as a free-roam action adventure character and his family is nothing more than an annoying stupid overplayed cliche of family life that need not happen in real life.

As I've discovered and become totally immersed in the Fallout series, Trevor is hands down my best V Protag as he is hands down the only one of the 3 that would not only survive but thrive in the Fallout wasteland!

With Fallout 4 looming, I simply can't wait to build my Trevor Phillips Raider Character and loot the wasteland!

Michael is definitely my favorite character from GTA V.

Hes has an interesting background (known by his first session with friedlander), hes an amazing thief but hes also very flawed, far from a perfect, and I like that. It makes him human, comparing him with the other two at least.

I mean, I see Franklin as an avatar, like the MP character, and Trevor as a cartoon. Michael feels like the only true protagonist from V IMO.

A dirty, scruffy bisexual punk b*tch who thinks he's a real tough guy bully (as Franklin showed otherwise). Only God knows how Rockstar managed to get this guy a cult following. Sometimes its the real wack ideas and corny-ass, cheap bullsh*t that can win the day unfortunately.

What's the appeal guys ? What because he'd gets his d*ck out and walks around with his genitals bared for all to see? Oh, lets see, its because he cross-dresses ? Or maybe it was that extremely hilarious moment when he took a sh*t in the street. He rages and screams all the time, thats pretty impressive too I guess. Oh and since he tortures and kills people for the fun of it, that has to be so cool too, I mean what an original idea, so amazing right ?

Out of the three, I feel that Michael is the best. Franklin could have been better, if his background was much more elaborated, if he stopped whining and b**chin and spent more time in Davis instead of moving to Vinewood and start eating chips.

I feel like Trevor was created just before a coffee break. To go on with their break, they just decided a mad psycho would do the job. Only Michael has a good backstory and a personality. The entire game suits him, GTAV is a cinematic, Hollywood-impersonating game, and of the three, Michael is the only movie guy. 'Meets a new kid who is willing to do anything for money, wants money from the cartel leader, does heists, best-friend shows up, more heists and working with the FIB' These all fit Michael, so he is the best one out of the three.
