What is the difference between action replay and just recording?

With the freemode events dlc that came out, we got the rockstar editor. Now in freeroam, when you hold the down button on the D-pad, it gives you two options: action replay and record. I'm confused as to what the difference is between the two. What is the difference if they both just record your gameplay? Thanks for any informative responses.

Same kind of rule as Shadowplay. Action Replay will buffer in the last 30 seconds or so of gameplay (variable, depending on what's going on) and will save a clip when you tell it to capture, whereas record will start recording all your gameplay until you tell it to stop.

So action replay is the same thing as regular recording except that when you start recording, it will go back 30 seconds?

It will record for as long as it needs to. For example, a 3 lap race, it will record all of it.

You don't start action replay recording. It's always recording if you turned it on. You merely tell it to save the last 30-60 seconds when you activate it.

You can also set it to save action replay upon death if your masochistic.

I'd keep action reply on if I were you so you can save something after it happens, then if you want to record just switch it back to record. I hope they add an option to make action replay the default because it's annoying to lose an awesome replay because the setting switches to record once you leave a session, at least I think it does.

I'm not sure but it seems like the harder / longer I push the save action button the longer the clip is. I've had some 3 minute long ones but I can't explain why it saved such a long replay.

If Action Replay is switched on, it keeps a constant record of the last 30-60 seconds of gameplay. When you tell it to capture, it will save the currently recorded gameplay as a clip that you can use in the editor.

this is welcome news because in the short while i had messed with it, every time i went to save the clip of my death it told me that the clip wasnt long enough, despite having it on long before said epic death.

thank you.
