Operation Paperclip

It's also possible the entire scope and business model of GTA has become more episodic and modular.

In other words, what we knew to be a fully featured new title might just become another option (DLC) Rockstar offers customers across single player or multiplayer. Take it or leave it they'll say, but it's likely there is a core experience (Social Club or GTA: V/O etc) that will remain from here on.

Similar to MMOs.. usually customers don't have to go in on the expansions, but they will be locked out of content if they choose not to.

Not to mention that this whole game is already old as f*ck, and technology is much better now than god-who-knows-when they started developing this game in gaming industry time is old....as f*ck

This game isnt modular and wasnt designed to be fully modular, they didnt expect this to be big and consistent as it is after 3-4 years...

I think from a developer stand point the next GTA is were GTAO will truly stand out... now they know what to expect from the market , building up from scratch to be completely modular so then they can keep updating every aspect they need much faster and easier

I bet my ass that there are a bunch of sh*t they wish they could re-do from GTAO mechanics and they cant cuz it is too deeply embedded and wouldnt be easy to do it at all

Feel free to list all the better looking open world games with more features that have come out in the mean time. The ones that use all this superior technology. Thanks in Advance.

...Like i said before I personally think 2016 is the last year for DLCs for GTA V so my guess is they have all the most requested dlcs to come out this year hopefully. SP DLC, Casino, Bahama mamas, and a lot of cut content. this is just my guess...

like they said a couple months ago, gtao is the gift that keep on giving, cashcard sales keep them happy, so they just keep pumping content out.

people are still buying cashcards, making them millions every month, they can simply keep milking this cow, personally i see them adding stuff for atleast 2 more years, before they cut back and start working on the next gta, which maybe be on the planning and scouting phase already.

I fully expect 2016 to be the last year of content as far as gta 5 is concerned. While I cant go look for the quote right now, TT has stated as recently as a few weeks ago that content wouldn't just keep coming forever for this game. It looked like a hint that they would soon be putting R* on other projects rather than creating content for gta.

Three years for an AAA title were too short. R* has stated they keep GTA5 and GTAO separate, developing other projects have nothing to do with adding contents for GTAO

Im not talking about a full fledged game, as it right now in this style there are NONE and the few i remembered were kinda of fails (ex, APB?), with probably exception from PC who got way 2 many open-world Beta ass games

They had to build everything in the way did for a hardware that is more than 10 years old.....gtav/ GTAO isnt even like a new gen title in case you dont know or remember is more like a remaster from old gen...from 2008-2009 (were they probably started working on it i dunno exactly) til NOW alot of things has changed with game engines, modeling, renderization etc....

Also....by using as a base the new gen over a base in last gen is obvious that literally everything in the game will be improved

Does it makes sense?

Highly doubt this is the last for GTA V content. It wouldn't make any sense to stop since its Rockstars biggest money maker right now. Also, their DLCs are not really time consuming so to say. Create 3D models here and there and boom, new DLC ready to go. I give GTA V(Online) another 1 1/2 to 2 years of DLC. It'll be just in time for GTA VI.

BOOM! Yeah! No planning, research, discussion, approval, testing, editing needed.

Everything coming straight outta the director's imagination to your gaming platform through internet.

I don't think there will be V DLC past 2016. You don't have to prove sh*t to me, that's my opinion. Period. And if I'm wrong, I doubt I'll care because it'll benefit me, no?

if 2016 is the final year for DLC for GTA, then Rockstar is gonna make every single one of them, bigger than previous, or try to at least.

I don't know when GTA5:Online will come to an end, but I think it will end with a new beginning. We will transfer our Online character to the new GTA and it's map, but the only thing that transfers for characters is the level and money.

anybody entertain the idea that R* might use GTAO as a means of maintaining a player-base until GTA VI?

lots of potential Shark Card sales and maybe even further sales of the game as the last remaining LG drain into CG/PC. 3 years in and still lots of things that could be added as updates, maybe even another 3 or 4 years worth...

just an opinion. probably wrong, but yeah just a thought.

Here's where I imagine a cut scene where our character sells most of his or her cars to Michael and Franklin, Trevor buys the Pegasus vehicles, and we just give our Lowriders to Lamar's broke ass.

that sort of thing would be sweet! i think i'd quite enjoy a "high roller in LS loses everything and has to flee to [insert prefer destination for VI] " cut-scene as an opening to the next era of GTAO.

All I know is - there's a reason that the latest content we've had is exclusively online. I think most people are forgetting that GTA V and GTA Online are two separate games in Rockstar's eyes. Content may have stopped for GTA V, due to the fact it doesn't generate cash card sales or whatever but GTA Online will continue to be updated as long as the players will pay and the consoles can handle it. There has been mention that GTA Online progress will carry over to the next GTA etc so I don't see why they would cut the content and lose the attention of the player base.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, updates will continue as long as shark cards support them. When the card sales dry up they won't have the budget to spend on developing the updates.

When exactly that will be, no-one knows.

Hope Fun is right:

The bastards removed my capture and took my money for the casino that will be coming with SP DLC.

Its expected from the start

it would surprise me more if he was wrong.

3 year lifespan for a online game is a bit too short imo

Hopefully GTA Online will keep updating and running until/after GTA6 has arrive

I think he meant V in terms of a Story DLC window. GTAO is here to stay and will continue to grow with probably moving over to a 2.0 version when GTA Next comes whilst connecting that map with V's.

They have probly made a ton of stuff for dlc to put out. Its all about timing and the nature of the updates they want to put out. These aint big budget dlcs apart from heists.

Everyone keeps saying "three years," well, you're wrong.

Not just because of the technicality; that is sijnce it released in October of 2013 we're only two years and three months into the cycle, but because they've severed the legacy connection to last gen we should be counting the time from the release of the next gen version for life cycle of this game.

That's one year, two months.

Reason being? One, the game sold for full price up until this holiday (and I see via Gamestop it still sells for $59.99!). Two, we've seen a marked change in the scope of magnitude of the updates to the game since last gen was marked obsolescent and thus EOL'd.

You are still within time limits to get a major expansion, which as I've said previously will come in the form of GTA V: San Fierro or Las Venturas. It will not be sold as a GTAO expansion, but a standalone GTA title, and if you want to visit another city in GTAO you're going to have to buy it.

The last two "true" updates significantly changed the direction of the game and included massive new mechanics which either enhanced freemode or completely supplicated a previous family of freemode activities.

Furthermore, one of the previous updates to that included an entirely new direction and detail orientated way to modify cars in the game. It also included wholly new vehicle mechanics (as in game design, not wrench-turner) and a set of scripted, interlocking, missions akin in complexity to a heist.

They were quite massive. The holiday throwaways weren't, but they've been the exception not the rule.
