Why are this and VCS so underrated?

Beyond the absence of PC version, I only have explanation plausible enough. But this is only true for those who have played SA before. Compared to SA, both games seem "inferior" both in terms of graphics and gameplay. And there is a population of players judging games simply by the cover, and not by contents. That is why LCS caused some outrage among veteran PS2 players - they couldn't stand the "disgusting" LCS after a "marvellous" SA.

However, the absence of PC version is the most logical conclusion to make. Unlike 2001, by 2005/2006 the majority of players were on PCs, and unlike PS2s that were viral back then, by 2006 computers have evolved drastically while PS2 largely remained the same good old PS2. 5 years later, the computers would support better graphics, cope with more processes, and it is only natural that the amount of both PC games and PC gamers has increased. That is why the absence of PC version was what made the games underrated - mostly due to the PC GTA players' frustrations - as they also expected some party.

If there was PC Versions for both, I'd buy it even before I'd put my shoes on. ;)

These games were PlayStation exclusive games, so it's obvious a lot of people didn't get a chance to play them on Xbox and PC, PC being the majority that nearly everyone could play on. It's like asking why Xbox/PlayStation gamers don't get to play Mario games.

LCS was the second GTA I played after GTAVCS.

Personally, it bore me due to the lack of features like swimming and I wasn't a fan of the New York mobster atmosphere (probably because of spending too much time with the overly pastel and neon lights of Vice City) maybe playing GTA III would motivate me to try LCS again plus the theme song sounds great (probably the best in the franchise).

VCS was good and the fact that I had a PSP to play it.

Agree with the previous posts, being released in the PC might have helped.

When this was intially released it was everywhere and was highly praised. It was quite the technological feat for the time. LCS helped sell tons of PSPS.

It got me into the series. I'd imagine it got a lot of others into the series too. Even if you weren't into GTA when LCS was released, the concept alone made you want to buy it - GTA? On a handheld? It was everything it needed to be, and more. The mission structure, the story, dialogue, vehicle and weapon selection, all up to par. Nobody besides the technologically illiterate expected San Andreas. The LAN muktiplayer was a big deal too. It worked quite well and I'd spend hours playing it with friends.

Vice City Stories came out and by that time I had gotten infatuated with the series. III, VC, SA, by that time I've seen the best of what Rockstar had to offer. But VCS blew me away. The side missions, story, soundtrack, atmosphere, it all clicked - more than Vice City did, imo. Phil Collins was a nice touch too. The Empire system helped satisfy the urge to do gang war esque activities that I had grown fond of when playing SA.

So even though the majority of people I know who like GTA in real life haven't played the PSP titles, I'm glad I did. It was the perfect segway into the IV hype train. After that I knew I'd be on some corner of the internet discussing GTA until they stop making it or I die. :p

As many people on this topic said before, maybe if the Stories games got a release for PC players, there'd be more people in the know. I dare say a San Andreas Stories would've happened had

Rockstar chosen to make the Stories games for PC as well as PlayStation players. Just my two cents.

To me, LCS and VCS were a "cheap" and easy way to gain some more popularity on handheld platform, apart from PC and consoles. A clear example is that PS2 LCS was a direct psp port with just higher quality textures. No extra stuff like VCS. That's why they were overshadowed, they weren't intended to be more popular. Just what rockstar does by reselling 3d era on smartphones. Nothing different or better.

Don't get me wrong though. LCS was the first gta I had ever played and I'm a big fan of the stories series!

For some reason, LCS has always bored me as a GTA game. I'm just never excited to play the game. I'm literally forcing myself to play it right now to get 100% but honestly, I think Vice City Stories is better than it in every way. LCS is one of my least favorite GTA games.

I feel the other way actually. I enjoy LCS, but VCS pains me to play., Especially those dreaded Air Ambulance missions.

To answer the question, I feel as though it's not really underrated. Just unknown. If it had been released on more than PlayStation devices, it might have reached a larger audience. I also feel the hype levels weren't as big as some of the others were. I don't recall seeing a trailer for LCS or VCS anywhere besides Youtube, whereas with games like GTA V, there was a giant mural painted. Plus you'd see commercials for it all the time.

Yeah, I am the same way. I rather play LCS than VCS. LCS is very simplistic which could be boring to some, but there is other things to look into when it comes to LCS like the vast Special Vehicle selection...It's why I did 7 Saves on PS2 and 1 on iOS. I even REDONE 6 of those 7 LCS Saves, too. So all in all, I did LCS 14 times to 100% whereas I only did VCS 6 times to 100%. LCS is such a simple and quick GTA that I only focus my attention to the Special Vehicle selection and go for all of them...

Regarding the fact that both games were skipped in PC, Rockstar has been always "kinda" worshipping Sony and his consoles, PC ports on GTA games were something back then irritating, since you had to wait an unespecific amount of time to release them in PC, Xbox, etc.

Unfortunely, LCS and VCS didn't get a port, so they remained not as popular as SA, VC or III could be.

Besides, the PS2 version had few framedrops issues as far as I know, and the PSP wasn't as popular or eccentric as a PS or a Xbox could be.
