Why are this and VCS so underrated?

I guess not many people know about them since they were only released on PSP/PS2. I don't really consider them to be underrated. Just not as popular as the main titles.

III, VC, SA = LCS and VCS. They are basically all the same to me. 3D Era is King...

If people are missing out, oh well. At least I'm not.

Besides the fact that they're not available on PC, what other reason could there be to their invisibility?

I think it's because missing PC port, like really it would get more popularity and because it's worse than SA. (in term of game features like swimming, map and other activities)

Because they were both only on PSP and PS2. LCS received pretty bad reviews and had low sales too. VCS was doomed after what the community thought of LCS. Both great games though.

I don't know but people forget about them both of these games are pretty good LCS was a fun game and VCS pretty much has a lot of features you would want in a dream GTA game lol with all of the empire building. It annoys me when people talk about GTA they say SA and then jump to IV without mentioning LCS and VCS these were games too they existed!! Don't ignore them!

Yep, that also "annoys" me. People always skip LCS, VCS, and even CW when talking about all the GTA's they played and like. LCS, VCS, and CW are pretty much just as good as any of the other GTA's, you just have to own the proper Platform to play them like PSP, PS2, or PS3 who can play PS2 Discs OR download them Digitally from the PSN. As for CW, you need to own a DS, PSP, or a Smart Phone/Tablet. A lot of people have these sorts of things these days. They really need to check CW out as it's a GTA which has so many features in which are NOT in any other GTA to date.

The Stories titles had both the best and worst finales of the 3D era IMO. Massimo Torini actually beats Stretch as the most underdeveloped antagonist ever in a GTA game. On the other hand, VCS' finale was first class. Now granted, the final mission of SA was epic, but nothing tops a skyscraper raid in a helicopter gunship.

As for CW, I'm currently playing through it again via a PSP emulator. It's actually a really good game to play on a sofa and a proper TV.

That pissed me off when I saw a video titled 'The Story of GTA' and neither Stories game were mentiones while V took too much time for an (at the time) unreleased game

Idk why LCS and VCS are underrated but one of my friends is an real "Swag" one... the PSP resolution and the graphics are to low for him. ._. I mean was 2005 since the PSP came out... old but gold ;D

People forget these games because they are generally side stories. They just are fillers between the major games. That's just my theory. In addition, they just aren't as good. LCS provides good backstory, but it makes me think about GTA III more so than the game I'm actually playing. I honestly get a bit mixed up with the two and have to remind myself that Salvatore doesn't get arrested in III but in LCS. It creates a bit of a blur, but the originals always come out on top. I think of them being more of an expansion pack.

LCS did get good reception when it was released on the PSP but sadly the PS2 port suffered a bit thanks to framerate issues and just how it did not feel much different than the PSP one to an extent. One theory/observation I propose is that those games came out around when the 360 came out, VCS especially suffered this since before the PSP version came out Saints Row dropped and while now it isn't that great, at the time it was fantastic to see a San Andreas like game on a next gen system. VCS kinda got ignored because of that if you ask me, and the reception of LCS kinda affected its status too with the PSP reception not helping either. Shame too since LCS was a pretty decent standalone expansion to III in my eyes despite its warts and VCS was a very good prequel to Vice City Stories with some of the enhancements of San Andreas making it even better than ever.

Vice City criminal

Because they were overshadowed in the PS2 by the Main titles (GTA 3, VC, SA)
and not many fans of the series had a PSP or a reason to buy one at the time.

I didn't get that far with lcs before I took it back to gamestop because I couldn't pass the mission in the warehouse when those hoods kept rushing tony and all he had was a colt python or a .38. how is it ? is it on par with vcs? the only thing I don't like about vcs is that the Malibu club isn't open. is there anykind of club or strip club in any of these games?

What Mission? The only thing I can think of is guys with Chainsaws and the Mission is called the Portland Chainsaw Masquerade. Piece of cake, though...M-60 for the win. Don't even need to use the provided Python they give you...

VCS is way more difficult than anything in LCS...

Only reasons why people didn't play it is because either they didn't have a PSP or the PS2 Versions where overshadowed by GTA San Andreas.

^This. TPCM is a little tricky but with enough patience you can kill all the Leones that come to attack you

The Mission is SO easy. Can pass it in 45 seconds. If you think this Mission is tough, do Slash TV.........Twice. It's required for 100% and when you are on Level 2 of Slash TV, even with the M-60, the targets now take 2 shots instead of 1, but still 1 to 2 shots to kill someone is nothing. You just run around, quickly turn around, blow them away, and keep running. It requires a Strategy. The Mission is easy as you can kill all the guys with Chainsaws within seconds and then a guy with a useless SMG comes out and again, you can kill him very quickly, too.

Btw, I don't think it's Leones coming out to get you since Toni is a Leone himself and the dialog from some of the targets almost sound like girls and it's quite funny...

I didn't buy LCS/VCS until April 2014, but am surely glad I did. I didn't buy TLaD/TBoGT until February 2014 as well. I never wanted the DLC's/Expansion Packs, but they were so worth it. Not until December 2014 did I buy CW for iOS, either. All of these "side" GTA's are just as good as III, VC, SA, and IV, though.

Bad reviews? I remember this game was rated 88/100 in most gaming magazines back then. It sure was a good game. The problem is it was never avaible for PC. GTA SanAndreas is only popular because of the PC version and the multiplayer mod.

You gotta be kidding me, right? ^^^^

PSP is still the best Version for LCS hands down and also first released. PS2 is slightly worse, simply cuz of framerate and iOS is even worse than that. It's the exact opposite of what you just said, actually...

As others said, they were overshadowed by other titles, particularly SA, and being released on mobile playform initially didn't help. It's a shame, IMO LCS and VCS are both better than their respective original counterparts.

Because they were primarily focused for "Gaming Mobile In Mind", and I don't think both of them is bad, both of them still has its features and conflicted stories, so don't expect it'll be released on the PC because you can play it on your Android/iOS phone everywhere (VCS will be released soon for sure in mobile), of course it depends on your lucky and specs, but it's great if you can play it anywhere, Right?

LCS was one of the best selling PSP games of all time if I remember correctly. Although I remember reading VCS was surprising low selling. I personally love them and I'm disappointed that they are not on PC and that there probably won't be a Rockstar title hitting the PSVita now with the flop in sales the handheld has had. Such a shame!
