The GTA V Story Mode DLC Speculation Thread

Why would they have waited 3 years after release to go on a tour together? If it's just for money, it would have made more sense to tour while the game was at its peak and demand to see them was at its highest.

Why would R* wait until they could use a publicity tour that will get very little attention as a means to announce their DLC THREE YEARS after GTA Vs initial release when they could've literally used any other means to announce it and generate 10x the amount of hype?

Nashton is right, the biggest role on Fonteno, Luke, and Ogg's resumes is their starring role in GTA V. They're not promoting the game or a single-player DLC, they're promoting their careers.

Rockstar will never explicitly state that a single-player DLC got cancelled when they merely teased its existence on their newswire, when they never did that for Agent which got a bigger reveal during Sony's E3 press conference 7 years ago. And if somebody still believes Agent is coming then I'm very sorry for that person.

The only reason I'm kind of on the fence is that I wonder how GTAO will end, now that we know it'll happen. All the time Rockstar spent ignoring any mention of single-player, Imran Sarwar's interview on ign last September, and the whole The Benz debacle had me convinced that it would never happen. Then Zelnick says that GTAO isn't permanent and I get all hyped thinking maybe we'll get something SP related when it all ends. Sure, the online content not being added to SP doesn't really help, but I still don't want to call it just yet.

The tour would be part of the promotion, not the announcement.

^...That's not going to happen, I'm usually okay with people wanting to speculate within reason, but at this point it's getting comically absurd. There's overwhelming evidence that the DLC was canceled - nothing hints at that tour being nothing more than what it is, people are just letting their feelings get the best of them and are projecting what they want it to be. Once you look at this from a more detached perspective, you see that it's just the actors milking those last few drops of publicity before GTA V/Online is officially done with.

Do you not think that they waited this long to go on tour to remind people that they exist and to give them money?

It's like why Valve would release the "Meet the Team" videos for TF2 every year or so instead of all at once - to keep people interest in them. If the three did all their touring right after the game came out and nothing more, they would've been quickly forgotten. But go on tour a few years after the game...

Steven Ogg's pretty much the only one with a career that might actually go further in acting. With his recent guest-starring roles in Better Call Saul and Walking Dead (let's admit it, he probably didn't get those without the help of being Trevor in a very popular video game, despite formerly acting several years before), I think he'll end up with a recurring role in The Walking Dead. After his character gets killed off, he has a chance of starring as a character actor. Likely typecast as the sinister, psychotic, or violent antagonist, however. I think the guy has acting abilities, but no one will hire him for anything but his "Trevor" persona.

Fonteno's done, Ned Luke's semi-retired.

...Because they did. All three of them made convention appearances right after V's release. The reason for them doing the convention junket again is to promote themselves. These guys are the main stars of the highest selling entertainment product in history, so it wouldn't be hard to book appearances at conventions and possibly make a pretty buck doing so. What makes this more unique for them is that V has multiple protagonists so it's easier for all 3 of them to get something to work out then just one guy in the past. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if Fonento got Young Maylay (CJ) in on the action to do these conventions with them.

At this point these convention appearances is for them to make a pretty buck on their appearance and to promote themselves, not to promote any DLC. The reason why it took them so long to do these conventions is probably because of Ogg's busy schedule as he has been doing a lot of things since V.

It's true, mate. I do feel as though Rockstar has slighted us with some of this ordeal. It isnt the fact that we don't have DLC - its the way that they have handled things.

They are perfectly aware of the fact that everyone wants it to come. They are bombarded with emails, comments and all sorts of questions. How hard is it to confirm or deny the existence of DLC?

It also prompts you to question their motivation for this. Do they fear a slump in interest in the series if it doesn't exist? Do they think people may cease playing online and move on to other titles or something?

It's really interesting in that regard.t he majority of people who I've played online with and actually spoken to have never played SP. Like they haven't even partially played the game.

It is kind of alarming, really. I don't doubt that people love Online - it's a decent time waster. I don't really even bother playing any other game online. But seriously, never playing SP? Are these the people that Rockstar will cater to in future?

My fear is that the next game will be online only. The single player campaign will be integrated into multiplayer, similarly to The Division.

I think many people have already uninstalled.

Some others still play SP for random chilling or mods, but it's a minority compared to GTAO.

Now that I look back in time, I wish GTAO never existed or at least wasn't that successful. Now Rockstar doesn't feel unique to me anymore. Another cash whore company with sh*t content (other than the Heist update, have there been any GOOD GTAO exclusive updates?) and vague reasons to milk cash out of their customers.

I wonder why the hell do I still revisit this thread every now and then.

There is definitely some reason, Chiro. I just can't conceive of a possible motivation beside a financial one that seeks to manipulate interest. Of course, every ounce of speculation that we may present is just that - speculation. I could understand their silence for the remainder of 2013, and the year of 2014. They may not have decided upon the feasibility of DLC, they may not have assessed demand and they may simply not have decided.

I agree and I am similarly perplexed. The only thing I can come up with with the very limited knowledge I possess is that Rockstar is trying so hard to milk the Online part of the game that they are deliberately neglecting SP DLC in order to silently coerce people to do a mass exodus from SP to Online, where presumably they hope to sell many of these people Shark Cards. I have the sneaking suspicion that because of the Cash Cow this "freemium" business model has turned out to be that Rockstar feels that the potential benefits of any money they may make from SP DLC would be vastly offset by potential Shark Card sales, and maybe, just maybe, the bean counters over at Take2 believe that SP DLC could potentially be a "distraction" that would offer SP entertainment and prevent a lot of people from going online.

Other than that, I cannot, for the life of me, come up with a single theory as to why a wildly successful game like GTA V has completely and painfully neglected SP support.

On the topic of all the people clamoring for this thread to be closed:

I have to ask WHY? Just because there has been no SP DLC announcement, and just because it doesn't look good, DOES NOT mean that people should not be allowed to talk about it, speculate about it, and use this thread to request it. Why would ANYONE want this thread closed when it is a viable topic in this forum regardless of the eventual DLC outcome? At this point, other than arguing about V versus other GTA games, what in the hell else are we supposed to talk about in this forum? The mods are right. This thread should stay open.

Anyone who doesn't like the topic and is that offended by it should avail themselves of the MANY OTHER threads in this forum and ignore this one.

Whether the SP expansion is coming or not, it was definitely in the works back in 2013-14. I don't think it was deliberately scrapped or sent into development hell to allocate more resources to Online or whatever. I don't buy this weak tinfoil hat theory.

The kerfuffle around The Benz was probably one of the things that contributed to the current situation, along with a thousand other factors behind the curtains at Rockstar North that we know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about.

By the way, the next Rockstar game hasn't been announced yet so as far as I'm concerned, all bets are off, still.

Yeh have to agree about Da Benz, + the fact V is and still selling like hot cakes + GTAO's revenue = Plenty of muller and Take Two giving them plenty of breathing space.

So with Mafia 3 coming out early October and this so called Trio get together late October......

My latest 'cough' guesstimate :monocle: is an announcement late October and release late November/Early December. Then around that time RDR sequel announcement as well.

But I'd say without question by the end of the year RDR sequel will be announced for a May or September release 3017.

what if the sp dlc is ready but R* isn't releasing it because they want to get as much money as possible from online? When online will start not to get updates, that could be the time for a sp dlc

Probably more than likely, I have read that they sometimes have behind-closed-doors demos/showings etc at E3 when a new game or announcement is imminent. I remember first reading about them doing that when V had been announced but not released (can't remember which year)

There was a closed door thing with Rockstar at last year's E3 and nothing of note has came from them since. It's worth paying attention to how the big gaming sites and podcasts talk about Rockstar. If they don't mention them at all or are vague on their upcoming games then it could mean they know something.

What's embarrassing is that you give a sh*t enough to take the time to comment nothing but a put-down to others. I wasn't saying they're running around in secret showing unannounced games to people in spy bases, but there is a high chance that at the world's largest gaming expo there was a R* employee in attendance somewhere doing something, maybe attending as a member of the public.

It IS known that R* often have representatives attending these sorts of things, sometimes to show sh*t behind closed doors. The earliest build of Red Dead was shown in a similar fashion in 2005, 4 years before it released and I don't think it even had a proper title at the time.

I shouldn't have to validate myself, but I'm of the opinion SP DLC has probably been canned for as long as 2 years so I don't have any "false hope", however that doesn't mean that I'm ignorant enough to not be at least open to the idea that someone representing R*, who haven't released a game in like 4 years or something, might have been down at e3 checking things out with employees of literally every other major gaming company in the world. Are Rockstar employees banned from attending e3 or something?

f*cking hell. E3 was the final nail in the coffin. It's done. They're a corporate company, I'm pretty sure they knew how pumped their fan base were and e3 was last shot, before the negative energy sets in, that even if they release a DLC, it won't be the same. Just "about time you pricks/not to be trusted in future/slimy f*cks.

Is there a way to sue for misinformation/mispromotion. An official Rockstar source, stated Franklins Trevor and Micheals adventures will continue and to look out in 2014, story DLC etc. And never did.. Like, false advertising to get people to buy next gen copies and haven't said anything again or even denied.

Like red bull having to pay 1000's of customers back because of the misinformation it doesn't give you wings.. Rockstar and the GTA scenario is 100x more "real"..

Its not desperation. It's true. Rockstar already confirmed by the list that they came to E3. While they weren't at "E3" they were at E3. They always have some private sh*t going on behind closed doors. So it's not a reach at all.

Honestly, it's just likely to be a standard dance around a straight answer.

To be honest, the whole DLC fiasco is probably the one aspect that is selling tickets.
