The GTA V Story Mode DLC Speculation Thread

Official General

I'd rather the sequel to RDR to be honest. When I think back RDR got Undead Nightmare only about 5 months after release. Boy have times changed.

Same here.

The waste of huge potential and neglect of SP in V means that Rockstar do not really have me too convinced that they will do a great job of SP DLC.

Their last great game was RDR, so going by that I'd rather see the sequel to this instead.

for some reason... i'm beginning to doubt there'll be an SP DLC. please tell me if my lack of faith is rather rash

Well... well.. well, Was it not you who posted that e-mail from that super secret guy who works at rockstar?

No, I was backing up that guy who posted that e-mail from that super secret guy who works at rockstar. I'm not backing him up now... something seemed fake... like i don't think there was proof

in seriousness, RD3 would be far better than an SP DLC. I don't think a DLC on an already weak story would be that great, while a return to the west with its shootouts and characters you have trouble finding elsewhere.

I guess I'm the odd one out, then.

Odd man out in what sense? That you believe GTA V will get SP content and are anticipating it?

If so, then I don't think this makes you the odd man out. There are a great many reasons why Rockstar may have waited to launch SP content for an unprecedentedly long time for V:

First off, I think they wanted to get all the next gen versions of the game launched before any SP DLC, and the PC version only launched a little over a year ago. Second, and more importantly, I believe that they are really trying to milk their new cash cow Online and shark cards. Admittedly this "freemium" business model newly applied to full-priced console and PC games is a tad dubious at best, but I believe Rocketsr is trying to drag all of us stubborn SP GTA fans kicking and screaming into their online world.

Third, GTA V is a wildly successful, highly acclaimed game and beloved by the vast majority of GTA fans for its incredible gameplay, fantastic story, excellent use of three brilliantly crafted protagonists, and a stunning map. I guess we will see soon enough if Rockstar will deliver SP content. But I would take SP GTA content over a new RDR game, hands down!

I am sure that RDR is a great game, but people forget that in the modern world, Westerns, particularly in gaming, is a comparatively small market. Westerns no matter how good they are will be limited by cultish following, whereas a game in a series like GTA will appeal to huge numbers of people. I personally wouldn't care how "amazing" a game RDR of a sequel is. I have zero interest in it. I hate westerns, and the thought of riding horses all game instead of sportscars, jets, helicopters, and small planes gives me the heebie-jeebies. I personally do not like westerns, like AT ALL.

So unless a RDR game comes with a time machine with modern weapons, flyables, and vehicles, not to mention all paved roads, lol you can keep it.

I think the larger point here, however, is that no matter how good a RDR game is, it is going to be limited by its western themes to a very large extent. As I said, westerns are a niche market.

Why do people think Red Dead will be the "big surprise" from Rockstar? Don't we already know it's coming? Let's be honest here. Would it not be a surprise if Rockstar actually announced a SP DLC for GTA V?

I'd rather have sp dlc than new red dead because red dead sucks in my opinion

I fully agree with you here. SP DLC any day than the sequel to the overrated mediocrity that is RDR

I can finally agree with you on something.

Rockstar hasn't confirmed anything on the next Red Dead game= Yep we already know it's coming.

I think if they showed us a trailer of the old west with shiny new graphics and stunning character models then yes, I would call that a big surprise. Really any news from Rockstar other than more GTA Online sh*t would be shocking, really.

I can't tell if that's Jack Marston or not, but I can't see that being a shot of the next Red Dead, the graphics of it are pretty average by today's standards, hardly better than RDR is now.

Well, whoever that is, he's wearing Jack's default outfit, right down to the goofy knee-high riding boots, so it appears. But I think you're on to something, the more I look at it, the fishier it seems. Edit: I just noticed the barrel of the rifle he has holstered on his back is missing... fishy indeed. https://i.imgur.com/xsXAnAX.jpg

Here's a scene with Jack wearing that outfit for reference.

To be honest, neither an RD3 or GTA V SP DLC announcement would be that big of a surprise; it seems like the appropriate amount of time has past for an RDR sequel to have been under production and is now ready to be revealed - aaand a GTA V SP DLC was supposed to come out anyway, R* said it themselves, flight school and assassination missions :sigh: The surprise wouldn't be so much that the DLC was made, it would be that R* actually kept their word, I don't think a company would promote themselves by basically saying "Hey look! We're not lying pieces of sh*t after all!"

The use of "big surprise" is just typical corporate marketing jargon, if they really want to "surprise" people, they'll announce a Bully or L.A Noire sequel, no one is really expecting to hear anything about those.

It could happen, but the chances of that happening are the same as Rockstar giving everyone who bought Shark cards their money back.

They don't need to be "confirmed" before it already happens. We've already seen things leaked before it's announcement. And plus, it's heavily implied that there'll be a new Red Dead game. It holds even more water then V at E3.

like I said it could happen, but that is too much R* for one day. Ever since they announced Heists, Agent and SP DLC a couple of years ago, and it didn't go as planned, they probably have learnt their lesson and haven't announced anything until they knew for sure it could meet it's deadline.

The trademark seems to be automatically extended every 6 months since 2013. I guess it's safe to say they might still be doing something to it, or want to. All we know is that they're protecting the trademark automatically.

you dont like westerns? dang your missing out. i mean sure it sucks sometimes that the horse is slower or it dosent have rpgs or assualt rifles. but i love westerns because they give you a glimpse of what the real wild west was like you feel like your actually there. until you take a break and remember your in the modern world. thats why i hope a new rd would have first person so i can ride a horse or have a gunfight or just walk around the town and feel even more immersed. and when i feel like going back to the modern world i switch discs. i bet if there were consoles like we have now back in the 1950s,60s,70s much more people would love them. because back then is when westerns were most pupular. they had awsome movies tv shows, etc. but since technology is so advanced everybody mostly cares about that. dont get me wrong i love gta and other modern stuff even futuristic stuff as call of duty advanced warfare was my favorite cod. anyway westerns will always be special to me. its just a shame not so many people like them as much.

I get the appeal, and won't disparage the genre based on my tastes. I had a very similar problem with Oblivion when it first came out. As beautiful and well implemented as the game is I couldn't stand it. Everything was bows and arrows and stones and sticks. That game is set in a stone-age technology, which for me was even worse than the old West. If I remember, riding horses was common in that game, too. I remember not being a big fan of the "up and down" of horse motion in the game, even though the few times I went horseback riding in real life, oddly enough, I enjoyed that.

I guess in games, I prefer more linear modes of travel, not the up and down and forward motion of a game-horse.

Its the same as the Bethesda/Fallout 4 situation. We all knew it was coming, just a matter of when. Rockstar just take a lot longer, usually. Plus, there's this:

“Will there ever be a sequel or prequel to #RDR I am Red Dead mad!!” – @liquidh20stevew (via Twitter)
Awesome, we love Red Dead too – and are thrilled that so many of you loved John Marston’s tale and are excited for more epic Western action. As we mentioned in our last set of Asked & Answereds to similar questions about the future of other game franchises like Bully and L.A. Noire, we don’t always rush to make sequels but that does not mean that we won’t get to them eventually. Stay tuned for further announcements about the future of the Red Dead series.

This is even better:

“After the #GTAV reboot, how about a #RDR reboot?” - @SlyFoxC

“#GTAV on #XboxOne is seriously the pinnacle of awesomeness mountain. Now can we please get a Red Dead sequel please @RockstarGames?” - @FRYMANATION

“So if you’re going to keep making GTA, why not keep making Red Dead Redemption?” -@Austin_Lawson32

It’s wonderful to see so much excitement and enthusiasm for the Red Dead series, and nearly 5 years after Red Dead Redemption’s release(!). As we’ve mentioned when asked in the past about new games in other series such as Red Dead Redemption, Bully and L.A. Noire, we don’t always rush to make sequels, but that does not mean we won’t get to them eventually. We have so many games we want to make and the issue is always one of bandwidth and timing. We thank longtime fans such as yourselves as always for your amazing support and please stay tuned in 2015 for announcements of what’s to come from Rockstar Games.

It's quite strange that R* isn't posting a A&A, the last one was a year ago. Maybe it's because the first they would have to answer is "where's the goddam sp dlc!?"

Westerns definitely do NOT give a realistic picture of the "wild west". I mean I get that some people need to be given a clear distinction between "good" and "bad" before they can understand something. In reality, life was rural but still fairly stable back then. People didn't just randomly pop up on the side of the road to ask for a ride or to shoot some f*ckin birds, also a half of settlements were not outlaw hideouts.

To write something topicworthy, not long till e3 folks.
