Just getting this out of the way: I'm not your biggest fan if you randomly go after other players in public sessions, but respect to all those sharing knowledge and making other people become better pilots. RIGHT. As someone who has been super careful in GTA:O from day one, mostly playing invite-only, avoiding open ground when jets were around and generally avoiding confrontation, I'm curious as to how useful jets can be in the hands of an amateur. So my first question: since a lot of the veteran pilots "grew up" with the Lazer since the Hydra was added later, does most of their advice apply to both vehicles? I purchased the Hydra on each of my four characters, I've rarely gone to steal a Lazer since it's (in my opinion) such a hassle, but if the Hydra turns out to be inferior, I might need to change how I do things when trying to deal with griefers in jets. For the record, I'm not looking to become a master of the skies. Definitely not expecting to out-fly the veterans. But it'd be nice not to have to go running and hiding every time a kid takes to the skies in a jet because I don't know how to deal with that. EDIT: Actually, immediately adding a second question: Even with flying skill maxed out, airplanes still go all wobbly at random times while flying. The few times I've bothered to use a jet and try to line up targets with the cannon(s?), it's hard to have any accuracy because it won't stay on course properly. How do you guys deal with this? The Hydra s (in my opinion) a less forgiving jet than the Lazer. It's a little trickier to dodge homing launcher missiles, and you have to time pulling up better when you're doing attacks. It's still a great, extremely powerful vehicle though. I would recommend practising with the Lazer, and getting the Hydra if you can tell things are going somewhere. Even if you don't get particularly good at flying it, you can still get use out of a jet. Now that missiles can lock on to players in cars, if nothing else, you can do hit and run attacks n people who are driving. The agility and stability of the Besra is better than Hydra the way a Porsche is better in turns than a station wagon. Think: Besra > Lazer > Hydra. Skeve613 Posted March 23, 2016 Share Posted March 23, 2016 For getting practice with the Lazer and contrasting it with the Hydra, it can be helpful to practice flying one around in either an air race (ideally one with weapons enabled so you can practice stafing cars and such) or to go to the base and steal one during a Contact mission with no tme limit or police levels (they will usually still spawn there even in missions). The latter is especially useful when done with a friend, as you can practice dogfighting without actually killing each other and needing to go get a new jet each time, since you can't harm one another with gunfire during missions and the obvious explosions from the cannon make it plainly evident when someone has been hit. Very often I place mines at some of the most popular spawn points for Lazers in Zancudo before I take off in a Lazer of my own. As someone whose main guilty pleasure is mining the LS Customs, I've got to try this at some point. I've observed that after a couple of deaths a decent number of people will go for a Lazer instead of calling their Hydra to try to get an edge, so this would be a great pre-emptive tactic.
