Smooth Longsack
Some guys just don't like the hydra. I find it extremely lethal. It has its strong points. For one, it is faster. This is incredibly useful if you have crew in lazer dog fights. The guy with the hydra can lure an enemy lazer away and never worry about being caught. Just fly in a straight line and you're invincible. The hydra is amazing for a bunch of the new freemode events. Hydra pilots can be the first to the objective and be landed and established in the event area. The hydra is by far the most powerful pegasus vehicle and deserves no h8. I'm a lazer guy myself though huckmonkey and Hunter

Excluding dogfights, it's an incredibly powerful vehicle. Edit: having said that, it does have a higher top speed, and it can be made to go much slower than the Lazer when you need it to, so it does have strengths you can play to if you have to get into a dogfight. Both jets can be made to fly extremely slow. The lazer can accelerate and decelerate faster than the hydra. Also, the lazer is more stable at very low speed and has the extra thrust to get out of trouble at these low speeds. REXX and huckmonkey

SteveW647
I know what you mean. If anything I would hope that we get some more people into flying jets. I have noticed for a while that finding skilled players is hard. It seems we have always been an endangered species of sorts. we're still around i miss the days of lobby takeovers and formation flying on the 360 , don't meet too many pilots on the xb1 lately, everyone seems to stay on the ground Aether

I always have to go on first person to see them Personally, strafing people on foot is more about aligning my minimap arrow with the target blip, the minimap itself with the actual road/scenery layout, then dive and spray away on a straight line, rather than actually identifying the target visually. Though if visibility is good I can generally identify the guy on weapon cam (PC default: Insert). If you're in a hydra trying to chase down a lazer pilot and the P-996 climbs, you're pretty much f*cked because the H-27 loses speed in a climb and eventually stalls out. Not only that but the hydra is designed for what we would call "Boom and Zoom" aka you better make the kill from the start or you'll get splashed. The lazer was modeled with turn performance in mind(unless of course you're comparing it with the besra). I'm not completely against the hydra for some mediocre chores, but it's a death trap. The lazer was modeled with turn performance in mind(unless of course you're comparing it with the besra). I'm not completely against the hydra for some mediocre chores, but it's a death trap. True, being unable to go up is a pretty huge disadvantage in dogfights. I can beat a lot of Lazers in a Hydra, but if I know they're a pretty good pilot, usually I'll opt for something else (either land and snipe, sticky bombed Besra, or a Lazer) since the jet is at a disadvantage in my opinion. If you're killing people on the ground though, the Hydra is far from a death trap to me. It can move faster and the rb/lb (or r1/l1) buttons have a much stronger effect on it - so it can turn to aim at people quite quickly. It also feels like it takes more damage than the Lazer to me (though I'm not 100% sure on this), and it can dodge homing launchers pretty easily once you've got the hang of it. It can't dive bomb as easily, but it's still doable. Also, you can avoid dogfights where you're at a disadvantage (decent Lazer pilot, outnumbered, etc.) by just landing at the construction site and sniping. You're almost impossible to reach there, and if the enemy jet attacks anyone else, you'll usually have a good enough view to snipe. I don't stick to either of them 100%, and later on I started to use helicopters more anyway (I'm not really on the game so much now). The Hydra's unlikely to win a dogfight against a good Lazer pilot, but it's not a weak vehicle in general. I wouldn't base what it can do just on the usual people who fly them, maybe get a kill, then crash.
Blankerz
Anyone getting severe lag when flying over people? happened to me on a few occasions last night... when literally flying only 30ft above someone the game will freeze for a good 2 or 3 seconds then carry on like nothing happened, was this just a laggy lobby or has the recent update broke yet another thing? Thanks in advance for your reply. EDIT: sorry if this has been asked previously, I'm at work I don't have time to search the thread. Slicing Up Eyeballs
I generally only use a jet if there's a couple of bounties spread around the map but I find the Lazer is easier to kill with than the Hydra. Or maybe I just suck. Smooth Longsack
Gridl0k
Oddly enough, this freezing never causes a crash. Lucky bastard, I sit there frozen in midair for a second and then suddenly rubber band straight into something solid I'm still transitioning from a Stuka to a flatter dive profile though so it's probably just that I tend to be pointing the wrong way when it happens. Also when it happens while I'm just having some low level fun (buzzing low levels...) The game sometimes just cant handle the speed of the lazer. Sometimes I will freeze for up to 10 seconds before the game catches up and has resulted in me lagging out of the lobby or crashing. Havent had a chance to try the "longsack challenge"yet but 2 days ago I got 83 kills in one lobby before someone finally killed me. Aether
So I have a question for you guys. My wingmen and I typically never go after ground targets(unless provoked). We just have the attitude where we know we can really screw up the game for people if we wanted to, but why is it necessary? I kind of want to take the same approach with air traffic. I never go after airplanes, but its the H-27's and the other P-996's that concern me. This may seem like a fairly stupid question, but lets pretend passive mode doesn't exist. How would you confirm a friendly(or at least neutral) bogey? 2Good4U

How would you confirm a friendly(or at least neutral) bogey? fly with a wingman who goes up high to watch your six , ready to swoop down if needed , you go in closer for visual id , fly up alongside bogey, maybe waggle the wings to show you're friendly ? if bogey is hostile , you can drop back and press your attack on them or your wingman comes down from up high while you keep the bogeys attention on you and he takes them out , either way , spash one bogey Edited September 25, 2015 by Biker647 Aether and Smooth Longsack
