No doubt the direction GTA takes is going to be contentious; i.e. even military vehicles aren't everyone's cup of tea, etc. I don't think there is any perfect or easy solution. But two things bother me about this update:

 

1) The lack of intentional planning that wasn't happening when they "came up" with the "Hunt the Beast" idea (really?). Makes you wonder how much thought is really being put into the game. Are they just getting weary of the GTA world that they don't care whether it fits with anything else now? What else is going to crop up that has no context or leverage with anything else in-game?

 

2) The direction GTA could quite easily take (like TF2...a mess of outlandish 3D objects and weapons with little thought or concern for the game's long-term consistency and feel).

 

Originally, GTA 5 had a huge amount of time, effort, and detail into the backstory, characters, etc.--massive script for GTA Story Mode characters--all that takes planning and thought. But anyone can now argue that we may be at a "crossroads" in GTA Online of throwing all that to the proverbial wind if nothing need to fit or have a plausible explanation/backstory.

 

I want to believe that the freemode events update is a one-time only "stop-gap" measure to keep people entertained while they work on GTA-world content consistent with its characters, setting, etc. (prison, casino, etc.)

 

Again, time will tell.

 

One would like to think so, but the damage could already be done. How do you go back from Hunt the Beast!!?......

^^ Precisely; it sets a dangerous precedent for future updates, unless something is rectified; i.e. the beast being the result of a Humane Labs experiment gone wrong, etc. but even that can be dicey.

 

Thought/planning (or lack thereof) will quickly become evident.

 

And at the risk of sounding like a broken record, R* needs to fix more bugs than they introduce with each new update...their record isn't encouraging.

Actually, no. I don't mod, and BTW, you can only legally mod in Story Mode; not Online (what we're talking about here). You might want to make a note of that.

 

I bought a game with incredible detail and thought that gave me reason to have higher expectations.

 

Spontaneity without in-game context is just...spontaneity.

 

Spontaneity with in-game context is leverage.

 

The issue is that I know what R* is capable of doing with GTA 5/Online; I'm still just waiting for evidence faithful to that.

No, Rockstar Games has allways been a creative company which produces what they like, its not like they completely ignore customers, they just don't like to be told how to design their games.

For example 2 years ago I suggested to Rockstar Games they should implement Free Mode Random Events, and they released smugglers plane, export cars etc.

They take consumer ideas and make their own thing out of it.

Besides if GTA would be made by the comunity, it would be just as horrible as the modding comunity currently is, RPG mods....for GTA.....I am done.

If Rockstar had spent an hour in the original game design actually thinking about how to quickly scan the player list to find annoying sh*ts on chat, and mute them efficiently, they never would come up with this great new free-roam Beast mode.

 

Now if only the Rockstar designers could be equally inspired by all their other gameplay defects, we could have a thousand new modes of play !!!

Except you did not give R* money this DLC is free...you paid for the GAME which you got, everything on the disk is what you got and that was more than your moneys worth.

Also the Free Roam Updates were actual GOOD GAMEPLAY CONTENT, but people are still complaining about cars and clothes...

In addition to that R* will and should not pure as much resources into Online as they did with the original game, they don't get anything in return(besides Shark Card sales which aren't THAT high...

If I had to pick just one of your ideas, I would really want the ability to rob the Fleeca banks in free roam. I feel like they were originally intended to be heistable, but were scrapped with one of the heist concepts that didn't make it through QA, which would explain why there is about 7 of them in the entire map and you can see a copy-pasted (but detailed) interior in 6 of them.

 

Also, I don't see what is so bad about Hunt the Beast. Even if it is silly and doesn't really have a place in the GTA universe, its still pretty fun (and fresh, compared to every other activity in the game).

I can see R* expanding on this Free Mode stuff, by adding for example robable Fleeca banks, but maybe also some other cooler stuff, because IMO Free Mode Events are way better than just robbing Fleeca Banks.

5. They said they don't want to splitt up the community. Why did they charge us $50 for the cg? The only difference was fp view. Expensive dlc.

6. They said their working on app custumization. Hello r* most of the early players are bored with this map after 2yrs.

7. Bp helmets in deathmathes most of us mature civilized players dont like that. We want a fair match

8. Its a game for 18+ but why does it seem the dlc looks like it has been come up by a 6yr old?

9. Most players dont post on twitter or social club.

10. Im not asking for new cars and stuff i just want a working, balanced and fair game. But after 2yrs of irritation im done with it

They are crybabies, theres no doubt. It really wouldnt matter what R* gave to us for free or not for free. Crybabies will cry no matter how good a game gets, they will always say it should have more. Best thing to do with a crying baby is to let it cry itself to sleep, or give it a soother and hope it shuts the f*ck up.

 

You want to talk about being ripped off, try buying a "new" copy of NHL16 for last Gen at $80 and it has virtually NO new features.
