XenoxX
MGSV looks better. GTA V is way too cartoonish, aspect which makes me sick in every game I play, just take a look at the cliffs from MGSV, it looks real. The only aspect GTA V can compete against MGSV regarding graphics is when it's at night and raining, the only moment where the graphics looks kinda less cartoonish, other than that, GTA V graphics looks even worse than GTA IV graphics regarding the realism feel. But in a comparison regarding graphical fidelity its not about realism, its about graphical fidelity, and GTA V is clearly, better by looking at the screenshots provided above... fefenc
The less cartoonish the game is, the graphics becomes better. The only flaw on MGSV SSs is the grass, which GTA V made better, even through it gained a huge performance cost after the first patch R* made to sabotage PC gamers by putting the grass to deal a huge impact in the performance after the day1 game version. Also, FPS, detail and resolution are the three basic concepts for the graphical fidelity thing to work. GTA V has a junk code which cripples the performance with stutters, which kills its graphical fidelity because the game becomes unplayable due to the massive stutter and low fps due to the sabotage. MGSV doesn't suffers from this sickness, so it can have the three aspects from the graphical fidelity with no problems (considering that the person has a nice rig). We are not talking about performance here, but in that case V is much better(if we assume its the Day One build), since in V you can have 90 FPS and MGSV is locked to 60. Also V has better particle effects, better ambient occlusion, overall better fooliage with trees moving, more entities on screen, better texture work. If you want I can also post a pick going nearer so you can see the difference in Texture work and detail. However GTA Vs pop in and LOD pop in is much worse compared to MGS having allmost no pop in, BUT that goes down to the fact GTA V has a LOT more detail in the structure/desert/roads/streets. Performance is part of the graphic fidelity, but there is no doubt that the day 1 GTA V had the best performance from the GTA V patches and better than MGSV, but the GTA V from now sucks hard and it's at an unplayable state. I might be appealing more to MGSV because its graphics looks more realistic, but V indeed has a lot of little details here and there.

Even if it did look like a cartoon, I don't see how cartoonish graphics messes up gameplay. He sounds like a total child. You are the one who's acting like a kid who needs to start offending someone else for thinking different than you. I simply hate cartoonish graphics because I've seen many games getting ruined "to expand their public" (aka praising kids). Simcity and GTA V went through this infantilization. For the date GTA IV was made, its graphics are more realistic because R* didn't tried to make the game colorful so the multiplayer COD kids would be pleased, they tried to make the game feel as realistic as possible to please their adult fanbase and they managed to make the city feel so much big and alive. Now for the date GTA V was made, its graphics looks worse because the game looks realistic only at raining nights, other than that, it looks like I'm watching a pixar movie with a massive stutter. Telling GTA IV feels less realistic than V is the same as telling Simcity 4 graphics looks less realistic than Simcity because it lacks 3d cam. Cartoonish graphics is also a huge concern for me when playing cities skylines, it was one of the reasons I used to bash the game so much because the initial images weren't so cartoonish as the final version of the game is, still bit my tongue about the game. I can bear the cartoonish graphics because C:S is a high-quality simcity killer I was expecting for all of those 11 years. Also, the company behind the game does care about PC gamers and they don't witch hunt their modding community. Cities Skylines is the only cartoonish game I can forgive, but other games like GTA and The DowngrWicher 3 which adopted cartoonish graphics to expand their public and to make pc in pair with consoles are games that I'll either bash or avoid like plague. EDIT: I know GTA V has a ton of details and I recognize this good aspect of the game, but what is worthy so much little detail when most of the game got dumbed down in favor of GTA Online and its public target? OT: As I said, we might get a DLC for SP, but its quality will be the same as V storyline to worse, thanks GTA Online. UshaB
I'm not too sure. I'd say that the characters body molds, including npc's, look cartoonish as it has that weird plastic look. As for the colour however, that's kinda what LA is, colourful, which may appear to seem cartoonish. But as shown in the video below, there are even pictures of the real life LA which is more colourful than V's interpretation. For IV. The graphics were great. It was the New York city grit and grime which makes it appear realistic due to its serious dark underworld. GTA 4 is like Nolan's Batman Trilogy whereas V is like the Avengers if y'know what I'm saying. slimeball supreme, fefenc, UltraGizmo64 and 3 others

I can bear the cartoonish graphics because C:S is a high-quality a simcity killer, the company behind the game does care about PC gamers and they don't witch hunt their modding community. Well, and this major issue can be lowered down with color corrections. Cities Skylines is the only cartoonish game I can forgive, but other games like GTA and The DowngrWicher 3 which adopted cartoonish graphics to expand their public and to make pc in pair with consoles are games that I'll either bash or avoid like plague. I'm going to tell you why all of this is wrong, stupid and hypocritical. GTA V was meant to be brighter because it was in a more sunny setting and it had a light-hearted tone to it. GTA IV was in set in fall and it had a serious tone to it. GTA V was never made to attract younger people. Besides as far as I know every GTA has been able to attract audiences of every age. How old were you when you when you first started playing the series? So this GTA V has brong kids to the series is bullsh*t. GTA V looks only good while it's raining? So you're saying everything looks like cardboard boxes during the sunny weather? Do you know how stupid that sounds? It looks it's best in that weather. GTA V looks amazing in every graphical aspect. The reflections are great, as well as the lighting, textures, colors, foliage and resolution. Here's where this is stupid. Even if it was, that doesn't change how good the game is. The walking dead has comicbook graphics and it's a great game. Now the reason why you sound like a hypocrite is because the two games you like look like cartoons. The old devil may crys and GTA San Andreas. And to be honest the latest devil may cry doesn't look better than GTA V. When get these ideas in your head talk, to me. King Vercetti
J Cobra, if I could like your post a thousand times, I would. I couldn't have said it better myself. This art direction in V is something that should not be taken into question at ALL. It is simply one of the best designed game worlds ever made, from an aesthetic standpoint. It does not look childish, but ironically, as you kind of pointed out, the 3d era games DID look sort of childish in comparison, just due to the more primitive graphics of their time. People that want to attack GTA V will literally attack any little thing they can think of these days. XenoxX, J Cobra and saintsrow

Algonquin Assassin
Everyone knows how much I love GTA IV and all, but seriously how could you say this looks more cartoonish? IMO GTA IV still looks great for its age, but graphically it simply doesn't compare. I think people mix up atmosphere/tone too much. I prefer the darker look/tone of GTA IV, but GTA V has superior graphics as it should since there's half a decade difference between the two. It's as redundant as saying GTA IV looks better than GTA III really.
