The GTA Online Freemode Events Update September 15th

PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 won't be receiving the addition of Freemode events to GTA Online, but it stems from a desire to push the mode in new and technically-demanding directions. It's got to the point where no more can be added to last-gen versions without breaking them.

You know, you could just say "upgrade to current-gen because we want you to since we can't be bothered to continue support for last-gen consoles even though they can handle most of the things from future DLC's" instead of feeding us that bullsh*t. We, or at least I, wouldn't mind, at least you'd be honest.

 

Yeah, some things just can't be added without breaking things, that's true. Not everything though. Cars or such events will not affect performance for a long time - you'd need a lot more than that. If I had a modded console, I'd make a bunch of custom DLC's with different car models and make it so all DLC vehicles to date will actually spawn in traffic just to prove that new cars, guns, events, etc won't affect performance. If I were to up vehicle/ped density and variety to maxed out PC levels or add current-gen grass then that would probably do some bad things since that'd need to load/process more and more models to the point it won't be able to handle it.

 

Considering that:

1. The ped/vehicle density and variety is already on laughably low levels.
2. R* can't be arsed to add DLC vehicles in traffic.
3. All DLC vehicles spawn in garages and weapons are automatically given to the player in SP.
4. Online can handle up to 16 players, completely spread out across the map, each with 16 different vehicle models along with 10-20 more different models from traffic in different parts of the map.

I don't believe that last-gen consoles wouldn't handle bonus cars, weapons, clothes, events, etc. I do believe it wouldn't handle first person, shorter or nonexistent loading times or improved graphics. But really, I'd rather get new content and load times instead of being discarded. We already have a bunch of random freemode events anyway - what makes the upcoming ones any different?

 

Another reason could be is that one console can't handle it and so doesn't want the competitor that can handle it to continue getting updates. PS3 has 256MB RAM and Xbox 360 has 512MB RAM (dunno how much VRAM, but RAM still does play a part in game's performance) and, as you know, Sony pays R*'s bills in return for some bullsh*t game exclusivity status so I wouldn't be surprised if the conversation with people at Sony went like: "Okay, our console can't handle any more updates but our competitor can. Here's a six figure sum to make up an excuse and not add any more updates to our competitor and continue showcasing the gameplay from our newest console on your trailers or screenshots."

 

 

Not gonna spend 400-500 euro for a current gen console just so I can play one damn game. Before you comment on that though, I do have the game on PC so I can still get the update. I won't be able to fully, or properly, enjoy it though because of multiple reasons.

 

TL;DR: R* makes up excuses, last-gen can still handle most of the things that will be added, Sony might be the reason for that, I have the game on PC but I won't be able to enjoy the DLC because reasons.

And if you were to even try to up the density and variety to PC levels the game wouldn't even load. People have tried.

All those items eventually start hogging resources. Also, look at how many patches the game is in right now. That alone puts much more stress on the console as it has to constantly load data from different areas of the hdd as well as the disk. It's hard to believe Sony or Microsoft built the ps360 with the idea of what R* has in mind.

Maybe it can do it, but at such a poor efficiency that people will just complain regardless.

 

As for what makes these different, no one has an answer for that. We'll have to see.

Who knows? Maybe this update will be so bad in execution that LG users might consider it a blessing in disguise.

No one wants to spend $350 - $450 (or even more if you're overseas) for just one game they already have, but if the game is just that damn good (and let's face it, you can trash and flame the game all you want for it's short-comings, but 90% of people here have dedicated 500+ hours of their lives playing it. You can see why people would fork over the cash for just this one game), why not?

Also, no one is forcing anyone to buy anything. If nothing on CG excites you enough to go out and buy a console, don't.

Enjoy your ps360.

Just be aware of what that means. You can't stay on obsolete hardware and yet demand current experiences.

I have made so many great friends on ps3, that even if I had a ps4, I wouldn't want to upgrade. After all, GTAO isn't nearly as fun without friends. I'd rather have fun with friends on 10 years old hardware than in a new console with first-person, better graphics, weapon encravings, new game modes, exclusive content for us, returning players and 60 fps.

 

Hopefully we'll still get content like cars and weapons, I do think lg consoles can handle that, I'd rather have lobbies decreased to a max. of 10 players than no more content. I don't really like public sessions a lot. Well, time to move on

People on LG just seriously need to get a grip on reality. Upgrade if it upsets you that much or if you cant afford to then too bad. It took me till my 30s to get to a place in life where I could buy current gen consoles. Do you see me whining about everything I missed out on over the last 20 plus years? No!

 

I got a PS3 not long before the PS4 launch. I didnt whine about missing GTA4. Or when GTA 3, Vice City or San Andreas all launched I was still on GTA2 on PS1. Seriously life doesnt hand you everything on a plate with no effort. At least you all are still playing the same game on LG. Go see what a huge difference there was from the topdown gta 2 to the 3D world of GTA3 then you may see the giant leap at least you guys aint seeing that kind of leap.

Proof is a matter of opinion I guess, but I gave a counter to the console limitations "proof" by pointing to the Dodo/ill gotten gains gun engravings - it's very hard for me to believe those weren't possible on last gen, so I no longer trust what they say is or isn't possible.

 

And yes it probably does make me look close minded, and maybe I am, but it's not like anyone else is budging any time soon either is it? Better to just agree to disagree.

 

In short, I don't trust Rockstar, and seeing all the last gen players just cut out of this stuff makes me suspicious. Can't help that, it's just my take on it.

It will be interesting to see how some of the modes work or don't work; let's be really honest about them for a second:

 

Hunt The Beast: Fairly fresh; though may require a certain amount of players in order to launch...with only a handful of players, it's not going anywhere in freemode.

 

Moving Target: Regurgitated Simeon's HPV. Honestly, how are these different? lol Oh yeah; you don't have to lose the cops and drive to LSC first for a respray.

 

Hold the Wheel: Variant of "Moving Target"; somewhat interesting.

 

Criminal Damage: Microwaved "Bribe the Cops then cause havoc" Daily Objective with new title sauce. Nothing really new here.

 

King of the Castle: Warmed-over Crate Drop soup sprinkled with Deathmatch topping (without anything to pick up). Yawn.

 

Hot Property and Dead Drop: Looks and smells a lot like a Capture (hold the nose!); but might actually be fun providing wanted levels are turned off. Otherwise, forget it. Been there, done that on the "Crooked Cops" versus mission. Cops ruin the whole PvP experience; just like they already do in freemode.

 

Kill List and Kill List Competitive: Sauteed survivals in vehicles, or a typical heist/mission run against terminator NPCs. Nothing really new here.

 

Penned In: H1Z1 Battle Royale with vehicles; might be fun.

 

Hunting Pack: New idea (with apologies to Speed); sounds challenging.

Looking forward to this update for sure. Sounds like insanity, and we've needed some real free roam activities for a long time. If they ever add jobs similar to contact missions where you never leave free roam, I'll be even happier - but this is a good start.

 

As for last gen... sorry, but the party's over. You got 2 years of free updates on decade-old hardware; suck it up.

Not for me. The only time I really get massive frame drops is when the game spawns a load of Dynasty8 signs by random apartments or when I'm getting out on the surface in a Submersible - then the framerate returns to normal. First one was caused by updates and the second one was in the game since the very beginning.

Either way, upping the density and variety will cause performance drops. Which is the point - not expecting higher variety or density on last gen.

Yes, they will and that's when they should stop adding updates and that's when I could live with it. At the moment it doesn't cause issues. I'm not sure about this, but I think all data from updates and DLC's are loaded when the game loads so don't quote me on that.

We all know what people are like. You can handle everything to them on a silver platter or give them nothing, people will always complain.

The game is good and I like it, but that high of a price doesn't give me any motivation to buy it.

As I said, I have the game on PC but I'm not interested in spending this much for one game just so I could play it for the third time. (and yes, I can play Online on PC but there are a few reasons why I won't be able to do any of these upcoming events)

I'm not (fully) demanding current experiences. I know this is obsolete hardware so I don't expect things like first-person, better graphics, better foliage, increased traffic/peds variety/density or 30 player lobbies but something as simple as a bunch of cars, weapons, clothes or random events should not affect performance, at least not now.

 

 

I don't hate Sony, I just hate the whole idea that they need PS exclusive games. Microsoft isn't any better, they do that too, but whenever I see anything about platfom exclusive game it's mostly PlayStation.
