so no mansions, 4th properties or new cars ugh, still the freemode events look fun *when people participate instead of griefing each other*

That's what I'm thinking it going to be like. they always try make these trailers look flawless, when in reality the gameplay is nothing like the trailer.

Hi, guys, sorry, I'm late to the news here. Am I to understand that Rockstar thought there wasn't enough griefing on next-gen consoles, so they added some free-roam modes that can be exploited for new forms of griefing? I'm glad they're listening to the voice of the community.

I don't get the major hype. This'll be a good update no doubt but nothing major

Im guessing you didnt read the article. Not surprising

The Rockstar Editor alone is EPIC. Just because you may not be interested in it doesnt take away the fact many of us are.

I'm wondering if free roam will be segregated again. Into free roam with activities and plain ol white toast free roam

Don't get me wrong, new content is always nice, but I just got nothing out the trailer or accompanying article. It's like this is being hailed as Freemode 2.0 and yet it's just a few more impromptu events that people will participate in for the first week but will all but forget about in the following weeks and months.

I'm not sure what is, probably a lack of structure, but what I've noticed is that I've enjoyed the chaos of free mode in GTA IV and TBoGT multiplayer more than the one in Online. We made our own fun. I remember the uncertainty of other players' intentions being one the more enjoyable things about those free modes. Someone honks their horn at you, you get in, and they take you to a "base" (i.e. the hospital, or police station northeast of Middle Park) to fend off cops for as long as possible, or perhaps to a base jump where you compete to see who can pull the cord closest to the ground. All of this is unscripted and unstructured, which I believe was the secret sauce.

I grew up on the Atari 2600 with games like this. We had zero complaints and never once asked for anything free.

Spoiled f*ckers grow up on games like GTA5 and do nothing but ask for more new FREE content. So sad.

Looking foward to timeouts, lag and other server related issues.

Why do you have to be such a realist?

I'm currently on a hiatus because of no internet (switching providers and taking a break) but I'm really looking forward to the new freemode activities, particulary the hunt the beast mode. It fits my play style since I've always been kind of a hit-and-run (or shock and awe) player who likes to be on the move and being chased.

It's also reassuring that Rockstar has reaffirmed to IGN that they still focus on GTA Online and that there's a lot more to come. Also interesting to know is that every day 8 million people play GTA Online and that there are more active players than there were in the first year, which did suprise me. That means that GTA Online isn't dying, but growing. Hopefully they will focus on these kind of DlC's from now on and actually start improving the gameplay and world.

No SP sh*t, no content, new "no-loading-times" activities on slow and lagged public lobbies, and the who-wants-it Editor, it's been downhill since Heists, i guess i'll keep playing RE6 on PS3.

I never cared about the editor, nor adversary modes, i even dislike heists, it's been forever since the last contact mission was added and there isn't even new content

I don't really understand your complaint at all. You can still play free mode just like that, and in fact, most people do. The more structured content is there for people that want to indulge in it, but it's all 100% voluntary.

sh*t, go stand on a busy street somewhere right now. Someone will drive up to you. They might honk. They might drive you somewhere. They might run you over. You might end up parachuting or fighting the cops (being GTA:O, you'll almost DEFINITELY be fighting the cops).

The complain is that he was letdown since nothing introduced with this update is likely to be entertaining to him, was it so hard to understand?.

The fact that the old (already boring) game is still there to be played doesn't mean that he has to like the new stuff or STFU, he can say that he doesn't like it, and that he was letdown. I am aswell.

It will be interesting to see how the community manages to pervert and exploit these new modes. People posting to the Forum here will inform us as to how that's going.

I think I did read the article. In fact, these seamless free-roam events were something that, in my mind at least, were implied as being part of GTA0 free-roam from the very beginning, based on Rockstar's wonderful trailers before GTAV even came out. I expected GTA0 to be full of seamless free-roam events, and it sounds like Rockstar finally got the message.

Regarding this new beautiful "freemode events" trailer, I guess that the good news is, even if we can't actually do the things shown in that trailer, at least we can use the editor to create replays that look almost as fun as the trailer implies :p

I hope soon that the people who hate these new updates so much just pack up and leave the community already.

Leave the community? You mean this forum? If so, nope. Never.

Sadly they never will. They will stay to just keep insulting those of us who like the game/can afford to upgrade.

No insults here.

There is a chance I may not play the game anymore and fully focus on Metal Gear Solid V but I'll never leave the forum permanently which is quite silly. Only staying for news.

? Ok whatever ... but I don't recall reading something like "We have awesome updates but can't release them because we need to keep developing for the other consoles" they weren't ready that's all, or they wanted to get as most people as possible to buy the game on new consoles

"Aside from simply allowing us to utilize more memory and pack additional assets into the game itself, the additional power will mean we can create more complex game types and deliver on some of the ideas we have that only these newer systems can allow. We are really excited for how GTA Online can continue to evolve as a platform with these new systems."

At no point in my post did I state that Rockstar had explicitly said that, though they have stated (see Sweller's post for example) that they would eventually reach a point where they wouldn't be able to keep relative parity for last gen, some time ago (paraphrasing). That has been known for a while. Nevermind that V was already pushing last gen hardware to its absolute limits at launch as well.

It was me, quite clearly, stating that they were being held back, by how very little wriggle room they have to add content to last gen AND managing fan reaction when they eventually reach the point that they have now with this announcement that some features will not (at least at this point) 'cross the divide'.

It's admirable that they've continued to support last gen in the capacity that they have, for as long as they have. But it was about time they started showing signs of moving forward with the game instead of releasing a few new cars and some clothes every other month, despite the potential reactions from a vocal minority.

Some of said reactions are, frankly, quite amusing though. Anyone who honestly believes this is some sort of 'gotcha' from Rockstar to get more people to move to current gen or PC are, to put it bluntly, a touch delusional.

I really don't know what to say to this. Great that we're still getting new stuff but I'm so tired of these mundane updates. I love that we still have such a thing as free updates in this industry, but I also love receiving other said promised things that are becoming ancient history. I applaud those who still find daily entertainment in this game, I thought I considered myself a diehard fan of this series but my faith has retracted rather quickly. Hope there's something better on the horizon.

Finally. A good reason to use free roam.

This is exactly what I've been waiting for. Something REALLY fun to do in free mode. Perhaps it will cut down on griefing and mindless battles.

LOL

They made the trailer look so epic!!!! I'm going to be playing the f*ck out of this new stuff!

Soooo..... Free Mode is already chaos.

And this upcoming update promotes more chaos by adding extra markers and such.

Looks like I'll have more time-outs after failed to join job and sh*t.

Okay. lol. Much wow.

Be waiting for Story Mode DLC.

I don't really understand your complaint at all. You can still play free mode just like that, and in fact, most people do. The more structured content is there for people that want to indulge in it, but it's all 100% voluntary.

I know you can do the same things in Online, but the difference is that there's now an "invisible hand" that attempts to coerce players to play the game a certain way. It goes against what I believe a "free mode" should be. IV has significantly less of those incessant text message invites and feels almost completely devoid of any pressures to go and do any given activity on a map full of icons.

In layman's terms, I'll explain using a metaphor.

IV Multiplayer is like a bunch of kids playing in a sandbox in someone's backyard, which is relatively quiet. The parents have put various tools for the kids to play with and maintain distance with a mere supervisory role.

GTA Online is also like a bunch of kids at summer camp. The counselors watching the kids keep adding more and more activities and toys to the for the kids to play with, most of which are nice in gesture but add little to nothing to the overall fun of the experience of the interpersonal interactions. Even during moments of free time, the counselors will be giving suggestions on what the kids could be doing instead of letting them have space.

At the end of the day, it's a matter of preference, with mine being an experience that has less of these trivial "keep playing, please don't leave" updates and more of those moments of intrigue and uncertainty with less pressure being put on the player. I would have rather had three or four "major" game updates for both Online and Single Player, similar to what IV did with the EFLC expansions.

There is a limit (passed long ago) to how many useless weapons, cars, and articles of clothing that R* can add to keep me playing. I want something that's actually going to enhance the experience. We need more updates like the Heists and Flight School.
