Is LC the best videogame rendition of NY?

I hate the fruity cartoon look of V. No wonder so many girls and little boys love GTA V.

I was just in NYC this weekend R* did a great designing Liberty city even though NYC has changed a bit since IV was released back in 2008 there were moments where I thought I was actually walking the streets in IV.

I have never been there before so for me It is the best, they nailed the atmosphere that I see in the movies.

I also have played Driver:PL, great game, for it's time the map was great but it was lacking Staten Island and Manhattan's expressways, but I have to agree that Bronx expy in both games should be bigger, too small in IV and kind of repetitive in D:PL...

Staten Island was left out in Liberty City.

No. Not at all. So far, IVs LC is the only one that portrays NY quite better than other games, but its not the best as its pretty flawed. Its detailed and all but not that great, at all. I still find GTA III LC quite appealing to IVs rendition, but that's just my opinion.

I wonder if we'll ever see another game that features all of NYC's boroughs with the attention to detail that GTA IV had? I know The Division has only just been released, but it's another Manhattan centric map and the multiplayer only aspect really turns me off.

I'd love to see another developer tackle Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and The Bronx.

GTA III's Liberty City is pretty cool, but it suffers from an identity crisis. It's really just a blended rendition of East Coast cities.

What about GTA 1's Liberty City?

GTA 1's Liberty City only looks like New York City when looking at the map. In game it's really difficult to get any sort of gauge of what city it's based on being top down and 2D.

GTA 3's LC is barely a rendition of New York, though.Clearing Something Up: GTA 3 Map vs GTA 4 Map.

To end all discussion on people who think the GTA 3 map and GTA 4 map are completely unrelated:

- Mafia House in GTA 3 on far right island becomes destroyed drughouse on far left island in GTA 4 (yes different looking, same concept)

- 3 islands, one with an airport which also has another small island north of it. On GTA 3, the small island and airport are attached to the far left. On GTA 4, mirrored. Noticing a pattern?

- Some bridges and roads are changed in GTA 4 from what was on GTA 3 (ignoring the added roads on GTA 4), this is explained by the condemned bridge on GTA 4 as well as the ones which look extremely modern (GTA 3 setting = 1980's-1990's archetypes, GTA 4 setting = 2000's archetypes).

- Center island has a center area which is a LARGE park. Both games.

However, 4's map was pulled DIRECTLY from the ideas of 3. And when I say directly, I'm not kidding. The GTA 3 theme was very low-class city citizen making his way to the top by any means necessary, but targetting audience by graphical display. The look was almost cartoonish, but APPEALING.

GTA 4 was aimed to keep up with the games being produced for the generation of gaming systems in the present: high graphic quality and high realism.

In the end, anytime anyone tells you the maps are completely different or that they completely changed liberty city, tell them they're 100% wrong.

That means some people are trying to mislead others and spread lies about GTA III LC ????

If that's true then...Shame, really.

When did i ever even say GTA 3's map wasn't similar to GTA IV's? I was talking about how close it is to New York, which it isn't at all. GTA IV is objectively closer to NYC than III's LC is.

>Do you mean the Casino? If so, can I have some of what you're smoking?

>4 islands, dummy. And there is an international airport in IRL NYC on the eastermost island. Like, this is basic NYC geography.

>What does the 3rd one even mean?

>Central. f*cking. Park. Look it up. Like, holy sh*t.

Overall, you're grasping at some really thin straws here. I'm stupefied.

As did I in clearly stating in my earlier post that, "IVs LC is the only one that portrays NY quite better than other games"

But I find GTA III quite appealing to explore, especially, the atmosphere, the layout and the amazing sandbox, compared to IV and its boring, restricted and limited sandbox.

So. I don't understand why bring up the point about which game feels "objectively closer to NYC"???

Don't blame me for responding the same.

Point me to where in my post did I say III's LC feels "objectively closer to NYC" to counter argue that IV feels closer, when I already made my position clear in the very first post.

Whether you find GTA III's Liberty City more appealing it has nothing to do with the thread. It sounds like you just want an excuse to complain about how boring you think GTA IV's Liberty City is now that you haven't got anything else to add to what the thread's asking.

But since it's been brought up I think GTA IV's Liberty City is vastly superior to GTA III's. Atleast Niko can swim around the waterways instead of the annoying restriction in GTA III of dying from drowning, there's a larger assortment and variety of interiors, peds are way more varied etc. Then there's the immense attention to detail. There's more detail in the back alleys of GTA IV's Liberty City than Chinatown in Portland.

And most important of all R* achieved their goal of creating a more faithful rendition of New York City in GTA IV. :)

Talk about forcing an opinion down other people, even when you haven't refuted a thing.

For the topic, I stick to what I said earlier, in my original post.

Don't forget about Staten. Motherfu*king. Island! Bro! :^:

III's LC also featured hints of San Francisco as well. The Saint Marks area lends to my opinion there.

The westernmost Land Mass is an expy of New Jersey, called New Guernsey. It features Guernsey City (Jersey City), Hackenslash (Hackensack), among others.

It is the mot Suburban of the Five NYC Boroughs, but I think it would have done wonders for the Game.

It would have helped reduce any perceived Claustrophobic feelings that the Map may have brought.

So what makes the sandbox of GTA III better than IV's? IV is much closer to life in simulation aspects than III, period. There are more moving parts that interact, that is the definition of what makes a sandbox more free or limited. Your irrational hatred for GTA IV is getting pretty ridiculous Osho, I mean why do you even hang out here?

NYC from Driver:PL was great, but unfortunately lack of power didn't allow it to be amazing. It lacked many streets, boroughs and things that make NYC what it is. LC from IV is still much closer to real life city.

-Snippity-

Is cool, but feels too superficial and empty, had some cool stuff over LC, namely, open spaces, map size and those awesome alleys, but that's about it.

I was seeing Cop Out the other day, the intro was a bunch of random clips of NY and all i could think of was how R* really nailed the map and feel.

Yes.

What sets IV's NY renedition apart from others is that it was New York not just Manhattan. Yea staten's missing but staten island sucks anyway lol.

People who say 'NY is being used too much in video games and movies' are wrong. Rather, its manhattan which is being over used like hell. Not just video games, even a lot of movies focus sorely on Manhattan rather than the rest of New York. (i am legend, die hard etc) and i really hate this trend, especially in games. Manhattan is a great setting but on its own it gets boring fast. NYC is a lot more than Manhattan you known

GTA IV recreated manhattan beautifully in the form of algonquin and had queens brooklyn bronx and nj to top it off. For once an entertainment product didnt focus sorely on.Manhattan and thats what sets LC apart for me.

Also LC is incredibly vivid, dark and detailed. From the dirty alleyways to the subway to the magnificient skyline. It is the picasso of perfection imo. So yes its not just the best NY renedition, its the best video game setting for me.
