The Crusader and off-roading/rock crawling

I'm an avid off roader when playing gta and lately been bored of the usual vehicles I use off road so I started using the Crusader from Pegasus. I haven't used it much in the past and this was the first time I actually did some major off roading with it. I was quite surprised on how capable it is and how simple it was to maintain power or speed while off roading on rocks. It also had better traction and REAL 4 wheel drive grip. I was crawling on boulders slowly instead of having to get a running start or spinning tires.

This is by the most fun vehicle to drive off roading due to it being similar to it's real life model.

I haven't seen anyone driving one lately. Mine is the first I've seen in so long.

Retired Mafia

I totally forgot there was a vehicle named the Crusader...

Gonna try it sometime.

Since myself and a group of friends are planning to go on an offroad trip with some vehicles that people would use in real life, so things like the Sadler, Granger, Rancher, that sort of thing, I've been having some fun with my Sadler as I want to also pull a boat trailer behind me on the trip; and I must say for a truck with such a lengthy wheelbase it's not too bad at all.

I also quite like the aesthetic of the Sadler, I decided to put some objects in the bed; like the winch from the Bison in SP, a toolbox and a compressor alond with a kayak on top of the metal frame I have on my Salder and I think that it's quite a cool RP offroad adventure vehicle. The stuff in the bed was added via trainer (yeah I know, burn me at the stake if you must since I'm an evil modder)

Here's some pics I took earlier:

I'm guessing you are on the PC? I would love to join your off road expeditions cuz I been looking for people to go wheeling with realistically, not just gunning it full throttle across every rock.

I haven't used the Crusader for offroading or rock crawling because it's so low to the ground. Maybe I misjudged it.

Totally forgot about the Crusader. Back in the good old days I had one stored in my garage.

It's all about tire placement for me. The crusader has enough traction and real 4wd that you can strategically place each tire where it needs to be in order to conquer an obstacle or terrain. I wish I could put mud tires on it though.

There was one sticky situation I was in (north of the map by the rail road) where I had three tires in contact with the rocks and one way up in the air. Under normal circumstances in my dubsta/seminole/beejay, I would have to spin the tires a little to get the front to pull forward and back down. But in the Crusador, I could tap the accelerator very lighty and move the vehicle forward and down without any tires spinning. It has that low-range control that you need in 4 wheeling. I did an hour or two worth of wheeling on rocks and the mountains with only a scratch on the rear bumper from coming down on a rock.

I'll always stick with my clean Rebel.

Very underrated offroader.

Vertical climbing at full speed is just stupid to me.

Crawling over each rock with finesse and care is a lot more fun.

But I'm just boring like that.

I wish they'd set the mercenaries mesa up with the same drive train the crusader...

I totally agree. One of the worst design moves in the game was making it 2wd. WTF rockstar.

The Handling Data file has the front/rear power distribution for the Crusader at 60/40 but for the Mesa at 10/90... :(

I was off-roading the other day thinking...

..."Damn they have never had a real, hardcore rock crawler"...

...I want them to add some vehicles that are "Custom Built" like a Rock Crawler would be.

Now I'm not talking about the Bandito or the BF Injection, I mean this...

The closest we have is the rusty rebel, looks like this one

But it can't articulate like the one above it at all.

The crusader is a good vehicle, muuuuch better than the horrid regular and merryweather mesa.

A little bonus with the crusader, you can take it to LSC to get it fixed :)

The crusader can have 4wd but the regular cant? Logic

I would love being able to save it into the garage, instead of having to call it from pegasus. I love it too, along with the Merry Mesa.

Does the front axle get bent like the MW Mesa? I loved the MW Mesa but finally sold it because after 5 minutes of offroading my axle always became bent.

That's unknown to me because I don't trash around my vehicles unless they are stolen. I'm sure it will if you beat on it since it doesn't have full armor upgrade. I remember when I first started using it I accidentally slid down a slope and into a tree. The hood popped open and that was the first impact.

Don Maximus Meridius

I bought a Crusader today, with the 25% discount on warstock, and I totally agree with the thread, worth the 168k.

Same. A sale, however slight, is motivation to try out stuff one might not regularly try.
