It worked except I had to change 00FA to 00F9 for it to work. I've got a pretty nifty little cheat game now. Thanks!

 

I have two more questions...how do I change the color of the marker? I know at the very least there are red ones as I remember them in the retail game. Secondly is there a list of the map icons? I found one for SA but not 3

 

P.S. If I wanted to release this a mod how would you like me to credit you?

To change the colour of the marker, try:

0165: set_marker $3881 color_to 4 

As far as I'm aware there isn't any documentation on III's map icons. VC and SA have much more in depth documentation.
