Does Rockstar ban skinhead crews?

Well I don't see a reason why they should get banned. The game is for adults "or so we have to think". And being racist is some sort of crime...

Being a skinhead doesn't have anything to do with anything other than having a shaved or mostly shaved head. Anyone who thinks that all racists and neo-nazis walk round in rolled up jeans and bovva boots, with skinheads and nazi tattoos should stop watching TV.

 

However, if the crew portrays anything racist then they should all be console banned.

What an odd thread this has become. Anyhow, being a skinhead is like being a headbanger imo it just means a style. We're playing gangsters so does it really make a difference which bad guy style is morally worse than the other(s)?

 

BTW, ISIS is not racist, they hate you no matter what your race is, it's your religion that matters to them. So imo it would be hard to pull that crew off witbout offending many people, including those dumb enough to be in ISIS since they seem to get offended by pretty much everything.

 

Overall I think skinheads crews are fine in GTAO although i'm pretty sure the mentality of some that would join such a crew is probably not so fine. Must hear some pretty stupid s**t when banding together with any group of real wannabe gangsters

A crew like the one proposed is quite a bit of a double-edged sword. While roleplaying as really bad guys (given that we are talking about nazi skins) is fun there are always characters who do not quite get that roleplay is not necessarily an indicator of what the players are like in real life. So, unless you always wanted to have lots of conversations with nazis and/or those who really do not like nazis such a crew might not be ideal.

Strictly speaking there is no reason to ban any crew for their motto as long as it is clear that the offending message is purely in-character. But, as a worst case scenario, you might end up with a couple of real nazis in your crew who draw R*'s attention with reports for hate speech, in which case it might become increasingly difficult to explain to the support that your crew motto is meant as roleplay only.

I would stay away from such a crew, not because of fear of a ban, but certainly because of the characters I am likely to come into contact with.

I can't agree with most of that. You can't roleplay a nazi as a bit of fun - that is simply not possible. You at least have sympathy towards such a character, or you couldn't stomach to be seen as something so abhorrent. Also, you suggest that a crew motto should be allowed as long as it's just a crew being in character. Sure, okay. I'll start a "fun nazi crew", just so we can all pretend we're nazis and to keep in character our crew motto will be either "death to Jews" or "burn the ni**er". I've not decided yet, but hey, it's just to keep us in character, right?

In my opinion, if you want your crew to be bald why would Rockstar care?

If anyone starts to act racist though I'll follow your roleplay. I hate racists so until you get banned I'll kill you, repeatedly, even if I die a lot, I'll raise hell in the lobby. I never bully anyone on GTAO mostly just dont allow anyone to try to get close to me, but if things go usly I will, even if I'm level 4.

Kinda wish I was still in contact with a couple of college friends of mine, a hardcore SHARP and his RASH girlfriend, who could probably give y'all a bunch more info than I can, being a Frankenstien's monster of metalhead, hippy, and goth myself . . .

 

But the first thing they would talk about is the skinhead vs. bonehead divide.

 

But anyway, I think something like that would be self-limiting.

 

Start a non-racist crew with a traditional, SHARP or RASH image . . . 75% of people won't notice or won't know what they're looking at and 20% won't care. (The only real effect is "hey, that's guy's character has a crew cut, polo shirt, and boots.)

 

Start a racist crew and do/say racist sh*t and/or otherwise cause trouble, you're going to get banned, griefed, trouble regardless of what the pixels look like.

 

Now, let's say a bunch of nazi skins/boneheads who know each IRL (or online whatever) decide to form a crew, and make their characters look (relatively) like their realworld selves. Technically, they've just created a nazi skinhead crew. But, if they don't act different from any other crew/bunch of friends playing, no one is really going to notice. If the do cause sh*t, they'll get trouble/banned. Otherwise, they're a bunch of people who play the game, who also happen to be assholes in real life, and I doubt that is anything all that rare.

Let me assure you that it is possible. In my many, many years of roleplay experience I have roleplayed as quite reprehensible beings (and had fun doing so), including for example a cannibalistic serial killer that left several players reeeally uncomfortable/nauseous for the time being, although I have yet to eat a single human finger in real life and can not see me doing so outside of a life-or-death situation. (Yay! Go me! )

 

I really do not like nazis skinheads and I know very well why I am not one of them, but compared to other roles I have played persuasively they are not that abhorrent. Generally speaking, they lack empathy for fellow humans unless they are of the right skin colour and political persuasion, they often have educational and cognitive deficits that let them buy into right-wing propagande even when it is highly illogical and they feel the need to belong strongly enough that it clouds their judgement about the company they keep. Basically they are like any other group built on hate and an ideology that gives them the illusion of a purpose. Swap out the method of discrimination and the kind of propaganda and you get Westboro Baptists, IS fighters or Klansmen.

 

Concerning the crew motto I was maybe not clear enough. If you write "Death to Jews!" into the motto field of your crew page it is very much not clear that it is all in-character which is very, very bad. If you really have to enter your in-character motto in a way that could be taken seriously my suggestion would be something along the lines of "Death to Jews! (Roleplay only. Seriously, f*ck nazis!)".

 

However, these musings are hypothetical anyway since we are neither in a closed roleplay environment with friends nor in a movie where everybody knows (or at least should know) that we are just playing pretend. People will think the nazi shtick is real, you will attract real nazis, you will offend/hurt people who are against nazis and/or have made bad experiences with them. It is really not worth it. (Stick with the cannibals instead! )

openly racist crews shouldn't be allowed online. but change it to a white trash crew and its about the same as those wannabe gangster crews. requirements of buzz cuts, wife beaters and the blemish setting maxxed out to achieve that dope fiend look aren't racist as long as you don't add any Nazi emblems and your members don't fill the lobby with hate speech/mail.
