GTA:O Announcement Trailer expectations 2 years on.

252 members have voted

  1. 1. Do you think what was said in the trailer has been fulfilled ?

  2. 2. Has it met all your expectations ?

  3. 3. Overall 2 years on, what would you rate the GTA Online experience as ?

Recommended Posts

So after 2 years of GTA Online being out (well almost) do you think that it has met the requirements that where seen in the original trailer ?

And has it met your expectations ?

Trailer for reference:

Well there are a few missing things from that trailer, but I think that more or less it's the same now.

It met my expectations since those things I saw in the trailer were in online too for most part (most part because things such police cars in free roam, like the Buffalo aren't included unfortunately). It's people that expected things that weren't even showed by Rockstar.

Excluding Hydra obviously.

A Paradox from 94

We're is my Feud shirt Rockstar?

TBH this game is special, only a few games in my history have kept me continuously playing for 2 years. The others are pokemon, metal gear, and borderlands.

Once the expansion drops my life will change again.

Let's see:

- The world never expanded.

- The world is anything but persistent in the MMO sense of the word.

- The Cheetah does not spawn at all, making it impossible to break one's glass and steal it like in the trailer. You may think this is a petty jab, but the traffic variety is severely lacking in GTAO.

- Character customization costs way more than "petty cash", especially after the IGG updates.

- Air and sea races still don't require or benefit from owning the vehicles in question.

- "Just what you do in that world is up to you", *Discovers funny harmless glitch, said glitch instantly patched in the next update*

It's a good game, but nowhere as good as what the trailer would imply.

DarkSavageDeathlyCloud

this was the idea?

LMAO

seriously though some of those things are right....hell, its better for everyone to forget about those trailers then :D

cruising around in a public lobby is asking for trouble, stealing a fast car is a means to actualy get out of trouble :D

i also agree with the world kinda expanding and sertainly developing....hell if it didn't noboddy woud be playing by now :)

Also the difference between Heists shown in the trailer and in the game (when they eventually made it in) is laughable. The trailer implies you could walk into a bank with some buddies just like a convenience store robbery, except you'd need a plan and would meet much heavier resistance. That would have actually been cool, but there's nothing like that.

Also the way they show you robbing the armored vans cooperatively with expensive kit like Buzzards - as if they payout is remotely worth it half the time.

Also - not enough loadscreens. Trailer implied a lot of organic, emergent, spontaneous gameplay, but of course it's not like that, it's just loadscreen after loadscreen.

NOPE! No expansions, no "living world" traffic and ped density is low and no animals really?! Still?! I dunno about you but I wanna get my friends in a plane and bail out over the ocean so they all get eaten. Car races through the country with deer running out would be fantastic. Rockstar runs those garbage P2P style servers and atill support people on Walmart dial up...

gta and sports games are pretty much the only reason I still play video games, other games dont quite do it as much for me

"Just what you choose to do in that world... is up to you."

As long as what you want to do in that world involves driving from point A to B, or to kill dudes.

GTAO has kinda fulfilled my expectations but I do feel like it's still a bare-bones experience. Albeit one i've poured two years of time into so it's not a bad experience, just a bit of a hollow one. Heists were a bust - just glorified missions with cutscenes, totally linear - I was underwhelmed by them after such a long wait (which I fully expected).

Regular updates are always welcome and overall It's been fun... I hope R* build upon this and improve it over the next few years though, in it's current state I'll likely be moving on to new games by the end of the year.

That said, being on GTAF has fuelled my continuing interest in the game and gives me an incentive to fire it up - i'd say the car customization is good but could be added to, and the ability to take pics in game coupled with threads on the forums has essentially kept me playing since April :)

F*ck GTA V and f*ck Rockstar. That's how I feel about this game, it was a complete letdown. It might be the most overrated game of all time.

The game fulfilled my expectations.

But the community didn't.

So much this. Whiny bunch of sad sacks.

The missions and the heists generally delivered and a lot of them were fun. These met the positive expectations I had for GTA0.

I expected GTA Online (the basic free-roam multiplayer environment) to be a worthless, miserable and pointless experience, full of crazed assholes mindlessly killing anything and everything, over and over, month after month, jumping and hooting with glee. This expectation was completely fulfilled.

I expected racing to be a sh*tfest full of cheating assholes, and this expectation was completely fulfilled.

I expected that over time, there would be other modes of play, new gameplay mechanics and options such as PvE, cops off, and more accumulation of assets that would make the online story more rich. These expectations were mostly not met.

The word "expand" in this sense would imply content that actually adds something new to the experience, instead of rehash of old content.

None of the updates thus far have really delivered in that regard. Most of them are "car, clothes and weapons", maybe with a few contact missions (all basically remixes of "fetch this" and/or "blow up/kill this", this also includes the heists) or rehashed versions of DM (LTS, Capture, Adversary Mode, etc) but that's about it.

Oh wait, you know what? I have an idea of what would arguably qualify as "expanding" - the Holiday Gifts update with San Andreas covered in snow, which is almost a completely different experience. That's right, the game expands for a few days every year then shrinks back to its original shape.

I still can't do "Titan of a Job" in badass approach like the trailer did until now.

I also still never seen a convoy of players under wanted level and they got away completely harmless with cops being so tame like shown in the trailer.

So, no. Not even a basic gameplay showcasing game balance in the trailer was accurate.

However, my expectation on Job Creator being abused and become a trash maker, was totally accurate.

The only problem I had with the trailer: It took them 1 1/2 years to fully deliver on their promises. ONE AND A HALF YEARS! Seriously, people bitch about developers who put slighty better graphics in their trailers, like: "OMG, they downgraded the final game a little bit. You can see the grass is a little bit blurry. It was pin sharp in the trailers." And as well-behaved as R* is they mentioned in their trailers, that it was always captured entirely from in-game footage. That's fantastic. Good for you guys. But f*ck the graphics, next time I'd prefer to know what features won't be in the game (from the start)!

I still can't do "Titan of a Job" in badass approach like the trailer did until now.

Let's see here:

- A big rig blocks the Titan instead of a Cuban 800, severely blocking line of fire. Blowing up the Cuban would also be much less problematic than it is to blow up the truck now.

- A hell lot of shipping containers and other clutter are added next to the Titan in the actual mission, blocking line of fire and route of entry for the sports car convoy in the trailer.

- Patriots are parked in and around the hangar in "engine off, lights off" configuration, instead of the "engine on, lights on" MW Mesa in the trailer, even though the current mission makes use of MW Mesas anyway in the form of reinforcements once someone gets in the Titan.

- The default long drive from Lester's warehouse pretty much guarantees a massive gap between players' arrival at the hangar.

- The Titan can take off before it even reaches the runway, completely destroying the possibility of the awesome "take off just in time to dodge the Mesa" sequence.

- The MW guards are so dumb, they wouldn't be firing at you all at once. And if they are smarter, it would be a total party kill with their terminator accuracy.

- The MW guard spawning is so retarded, you'd get shot from the back by a guard that spawned out of thin air if you try to use the method shown.

If the trailer mentioned endless spawn killing, annoying squeakers, griefin, and took away the parts about working together, it would be 100% spot on.

Overall I give GTA Online a 6/10. I wanted something like GTA 4 multiplayer and was very disappointed to get GTA Online.

Oh also there's something that needs to be said. Rockstar promised us 5 heists. We got 2. We have a small worthless heist, a jailbreak, a raid, a scavenger hunt for Trevor, and an actual decent heist.

In all fairness this is the only game I've ever played this much, this long, and I still look forward to each new update adding more to the game. I'm fairly certain that now Rockstar has got heists out of the way we'll see some pretty interesting new gameplay soon, what that is is anyone's guess but I'm gonna enjoy it and the game more as time goes on

Let's see...

It showed:

- Cooperation and players using teamwork during missions

- A Lazer flying around and not shooting missiles like its the Gulf War

- Players are driving their PV within 30 ft of another player and are not being bombarded by sticky bombs

- Unarmed aircraft flying around, not getting shot down like its the Battle of Britain

Basically they thought it was gonna be like SAMP

Well the players got f*cked in the ass and its more like a warzone

No police buffalos...

Anyway, I did expect Online to be more peaceful and cooperative with fellow players. Didn't happen.

Doesn't matter anyway. It's pure fun to slaughter.

I gave it an 8/10 because the things that work work great but in all honesty I feel there are only a handful of ways this game can be played with other people. Hell if we got an update focused entierly on redoing matchmaking and payouts for dm, tdm, capture etc... id give it a 9 or possibly a 10.

Arrows to Athens

Whenever I look back at the trailer or the time I first watched it I feel like I'm playing a different game. Anyone else feel the same or is it just me?
