Always joining empty lobby

This is definitely not a problem with anyone's router or network. How do I know? Using the same PC, router, and ISP, spent literally hundreds of hours playing TF2 and BF3 and not once lost everyone in the server.

 

Of all the games I've played, GTA Online is the only one where this issue occurs.

 

Pretty sad, really.

Possibly because GTA is the only P2P game you play? I have a standard broadband connection in the UK and never have any issues neither does anyone I play with apart from one friend who noticed a setting changed on his router once he changed it back it was fine. Personally I think its all down to your ISP and having the appropriate ports open to full open NAT. I remember when I first got my xb1 it said I had open NAT but the NAT had a modifier (NAT Ring or something) when looking at the advanced network settings so it was open but was still performing translations. Just me guessing though, I am no tech whiz by any means.

A hard console reset and maybe a router reset should do the trick. Usually it's just the console for myself.

 

That may do the trick however it be annoying losing saves and having to install everything again.

I just meant turn the console off at the power on the wall then back on.

When I had this game for PS3 on a wireless connection I never had any issues with empty lobbies. No issues joining friends lobbies and it was fine. Then PS4 came along

Cant contribute other then confirm to have the exact same issue as OP with my XB1. Empty session or very few players that "leaves" shortly after. While on 360 I get full sessions with no disconnections. Tried lots of different router settings with no luck.

This maybe unique to my situation but when I try a wired connection to my xbox I get full closed NAT but with wireless it is fine... perhaps you could try that?
