Not complaining, just FED UP with Heists dragging GTA online down

Hi Guys,

I've been playing GTA Online since October 2013 and recently moved from PS3 to XBox ONE, which I'm mostly happy about.

But what's dragging GTA online down is the rampant grinding of heists, over and over again, for obvious reasons because you can only get the heist vehicles - hydra, savage, insurgent, etc, by doing heists and earning sufficient cash to buy them.

Heists are fantastic fun, but are still linear a-to-b type missions similar to the contact missions, and once you've done them a dozen times they get really repetitive and boring, but everyone still grinds them to get GTA cash.

Because everyone is grinding heists all the time it's really hard to find people to do races, and that's killing the GTA online experience for me. You can sit in a lobby with random invites for hours and not find more than a few people to race online, and for me, racing is what GTA is all about. That and other competitive head-to-head events, like death matches.

GTA online has turned into a cooperative money-grinding experience, where new and experienced players alike have to grind heists in order to get the cash to fully experience the game. It's a pity, and I feel like GTA has died for me on new-gen instead of becoming alive!

BTW, if anyone wants to race on XB1, please comment or add me - JENKIIII

Are you crazy or something? At least on the Xbox 360 version that I play on, hardly anyone anymore does heists because of all the glitch money thats gotten passed around. For the most part when I attempt to do a heist i'll get trolls in my lobby that kill themselves on purpose near endings simply because they have a billion glitch dollars and nothing else better to do than piss off players trying to have fun.

You're complaining about players working together on missions saying it's dragging down GTA?!

This game is called Grand Theft Auto, not Grand Theft Racing.

Racing is is NOT all about GTA. You might be playing the wrong game if you truly think that. Perhaps you might want to play another game like Need for speed most wanted if you want to play a good racing game.

Meh, I basically quit playing because I absolutely can't get anyone to join a heist...Maybe
I need to go to XB1

I've had the crap murdered out of ME with vehicles right at the beginning of missions. If you're not a dick on the XOne (dunno if you play on there or not), I'll play with you. Hard to find people who aren't foolish. I often solo anything I can.

Actually you are complaining. And I disagree. The game gets better for me all the time.

I dont think their actually doing heists, their just stuck in their laggy apartments trying to do heists haha

Heists were cool and all but I agree they have dragged down the rest of the game, atleast on last gen anyway. With heists came crazy amounts of lag. Apartments are so laggy you cant bear to even be in them. And if you are not hosting to friends from an invite only lobby , heists are basically unplayable.

Christ enough with the bitch and moan threads. I can't even blame the mods for letting some of them go at this point, I'd be tired of locking the last 500+ easily from day 1 up until now.

Yep, I'm saying that everyone cooperating together on heists is killing the competitive aspect of GTA online that I really love. The races, DM's, LTAs, Captures, parachuting, impromptu races, crate drops, armoured cars, target ranges, golf, tennis, darts... all the head-to-head competitive stuff that makes GTA online so great.

Now we're getting hoards of competent COD players springing up on GTA online and playing heists solidly for two-three months just to grind enough cash for Rockstar's next update. They make sure they get 10, 20, 30 million in the bank and then clear off back to COD or whatever.

I'm a true GTA fanboy and love the competitive nature of the game, but not just grinding heists for cash.

Any if you're on XB360, then no offence, but modding is rampant on that system in comparison to next-gen. Sorry about that.

Because most players simply do not care about having fun, they just want to own everything and be better than every one else . They have only played the races to get vehicle unlocks, and now they've already unlocked everything so they just move on towards the next unfinished objective. GTA has become more competitive in being the richest and most highest ranking player with the best cars. Sure it's nice to "finish the game" but that's a different story in SP. In online , it is a never ending race

I agree, thanks for your post.

Rockstar keep on giving us amazing vehicles likes Hydras and Insurgents, and the only way to ensure acquisition is to grind heists over and over and over....

But they could also up the payouts on races, for example, to level the playing field. And don't even get me started on gold and tennis, shooting ranges, etc... where you get NOTHING!

Absolutely, you've cheered me up on end. I have a 16 race playlist called 'Fast Races 1, CATCHUP OFF'. :)

I'll add you on XB1, and please feel free to add me too.

I see Broughy1322 on YouTube is a member of Nonchalant Dominance, so I'll sign up for it, although I know he's on PS4.

I can't say that I agree with you OP.

The beauty of the game is that it's a free world and if you want to join heists you can. If you don't want to, you can ignore the invites.

I rarely ever see empty lobbies and if I do it's b/c my network connection is being sketchy. So there are a lot of people playing things other than Heists.

Heck I see the LTS invites all the time (Hydra vs tank, stunters vs snipers, insurgents vs rpg's, etc). I rarely ever have a hard time finding contact mission players to play Los Santos Connection, Titan of a Job, Landing Gear, etc.

Heck I think with the way they fixed the post-mission selection list, that missions are better than ever. No one wants to talk about the days of Rooftop Rumble being spammed constantly and the only other mission ever seen was Coveted.

As someone else said, this just isn't a racing game. Personally I hate racing and never join or launch one.

Ah, you're not a racer and you don't like the competitive nature of the game that much, and that's where we differ, but it's OK.

The thing is, I rarely get bored of racing or competitive games, but wow do I get bored with heists after a few hours.

Must be your ISP connection because I have no problem playing with heist as a PC player. Also my apartment doesn't lag... although from time to time I do get stuck inside of the host apartment after completing a heist mission. It does have it's expiration date, and soon after you're kicked out.

Ironically, the heist hosts are saying the same thing (see above) - takes them 30 minutes just to get 4 people to start a heist setup.

CONCLUSION: Maybe it's not heists. Maybe the Rockstar matchmaking is Just Plain F*cked. :bored:

I hate how hard it is to get 4 people to do a heist.

I will keep saying this.... Rockstar should implement a system where you can hire 3 an additional crew members through Lester. That way you don't have to depend on other players to enjoy the heist.

I was ranting to my friend one time in a party due to the fact we had attempted to do a heist setup what seemed like over 10 tries with randoms that failed each time. I thought up a "Player Heist Rating" feature that would be awesome for R* to put in.

Im not sure exactly how they'd do it, but a system where you could rate a players ability on a heist with a thumbs up or thumbs down on them would save us so much time. So a random player joins and you click "view player info" and see his "heist rating" is something like 1.25 / 5.00

This would be a huge red flag that this player either trolls, fails constantly, or goes idle during setups. On the other hand you see a player that joins and he has something like a

4.5 / 5 heist rating, meaning he follows objectives, uses snacks, and doesn't die constantly, and gets thumbs up approval from his teammates. This would be such a handy option for people that tend to play heists more than others.

Good idea?

Bad idea?

I think even if heists were still just a twinkle in Rockstar's eye you'd still struggle to get a good turnout for races or deathmatches etc. In the start nobody really knew what they were doing and people would race a lot, partly because it paid ok and partly for the unlocks. Nowadays people tend to zero in on what pays the most, which is chaining contact missions.

Joining a racing crew is a solid option if that's what you're looking for, prepare yourself for some stiff competition though haha.

The concept is good, but it can be easily abused at the same time. What if I'm really a good player, and some random is having a jealous fit because I'm a better player than they are by killing the most enemies? To get back at me for being a good player they go on my profile, and then give me a negative rating which will be then plastered for all to see.

I think the ratio should be based solely on how many times you die during a heist. By judging ones own death radio should give you an indicator if the player is good or bad.
