Aquilus
I think it's plot was more boring and monotone in comparison to other games, it lacked excitement and a feeling of empathy for the other characters, I think Vice City Stories did a better job at making me care for some of the characters which is why I like it a little better. But hey, at least it ain't GTA Advance. How do you feel about LCS plot and characters? ClaudX
I don't think the plot was bad. We didn't have a true mob story in GTA until LCS, but the missions were pretty weak. The same goes for the cutscenes. I believe that the reason that the cutscenes were weak is due to the fact that a ton of missions didn't have proper, full-animated cutscenes. It kinda ruined it. Big_Smiley
I also thought that the story for LCS was prettty dull and quite boring (at least for me) Everybody has their own opinions. Plus since R* pretty much used the same mechanics and some animations from VC it was like meh...it's an okay gta game during free roam and doing rampages. But the thing i didn't like form these two titles (LCS and VCS) they both had the same gun sounds and some similar animations when it came to combat. I personality thought the story for VCS was a little better than LCS because the characters were a lot better Imo. It's been a very long time since i played LCS. Last time i played was around 2007 through 2008 when i last played on the Ps2. If LCS ever comes to mobile devices (Like R* did with 3,VC,and SA) then i would buy it. Like i said it's been years since i played it so i would want to play it just for the fun of it. I do perfer LCS over gta advance though. I was never much of a top-down fan to be honest. As for the characters to me were okay. It just didn't have any interesting characters like SA did. Toreno in SA was a grate character. He had a lot of interesting things. Even though his missions sucks ass. To me it feels like LCS was rushed and done too fast. Edited August 30, 2015 by GTA_The_Series
Jerome
I don't think LCS had a bad plot, it was a cool mobster story. ClaudX has a point, the fact that most cutscenes were made in the normal game engine and not in full animated cutscenes made the missions feel less interesting. They were fun to play though. Jeansowaty
I agree with OP. The story seemed very weak and it wasn't very exciting. It didn't even have any funny moments. I don't care if it's a "mobster story" - why do people have a thing for that? I find stories like that really dull. If not counting in the story, the game was OK. Trillest
The plot wasn't bad, but the antagonist, Massimo Torini, was. He only appeared in two missions and never even directly spoke to Toni. I also didn't like how he didn't do anything that personally affected Toni, like kidnap Ma Cipraini or something. That's what made him such a weak and terrible protagonist. There's no real motivation to kill him. You do it just because Salvatore tells you to. In my opinion, Vincenzo Cilli would have been a far better main antagonist. At least he had a personality and acted like an asshole, that's two qualities you need for a good antagonist. He was killed too soon. Perhaps he could've escaped from Toni during "The Portland Chainsaw Masquerade" and then went on to have Massimo's role. Just change some lines of dialogue and I think that could of worked out well. One last thing, I wish we could've seen more of Mickey Hamfists. He was such a badass character. He really needed more screen time in order for his interesting personality to truly shine. In fact, it would've been nice if him and Toni did some missions together. We could've learned his backstory, and maybe some more of Toni's. Now that I think about it, it's kind of strange how he's absent from the Staunton and Shoreside missions. Some of you might say "maybe because he skipped town after he killed JD O'Toole", but that's not true because he appeared in "Making Toni", which happened after "The Made Man". Who knows, maybe the voice actor was involved with another project and only had enough time to record dialogue for two missions. I believe I speak for everyone who has played LCS when I say that we all forgot about him until the final mission. The Sicilian Mafia didn't appear that much either. If they tried to establish themselves in Liberty City and actually appeared outside of missions, that would have added to their antagonistic role. Maibatsu545
It's been 10 years, I've beaten the game countless times, and I STILL really don't remember Torini, what his motivations were, or why we should care. A sign GTA's writers were beginning to lose their touch, eventually giving us the crap that is V. It just didn't have the sort of intrigue and drama a proper mafia story should have. Especially with the Donald Love and Yakuza missions, it felt like they were trying to tie the story in with GTA III more than they should've. While I liked the character of Toshiko, I didn't feel like her missions were necessary. The Yakuza in III hate the Leones, so why not just have missions given by Leone members against the Yakuza? universetwisters

Aquilus
I hated Donald Love since III, but in LCS he COMPLETELY disgusted me. One of the worst characters ever, how the heck can he be so praised? True, it's strange how R* showed how much of a cannibal Donald Love is in LCS and never showed it in III or even had a mention that he's a cannibal. LCS also had some bad characters. Donald Love is one and Torini (to which I don't see how he fit into any of this) is another. Those are two big reasons for GTA 3 to get preferred over GTA LCS. WildBrick142
What was the plot even about? I only recall playing about 15 minutes of the game some years ago. Anyone mind explaining it? Toni returns to Liberty City after 5 years of hiding for killing a made man or something. Sal introduces him to Vincenzo which makes Toni pissed off because after what he's done he'd have to listen to someone like Vincenzo. He then does work for Vincenzo after accepting the fact he has to. He takes a Leone dealer to work, then kills dealers that killed the Leone dealer, then saves Leones from a failed gas station robbery. After that he has to take out Sindacco heavies because JD wants to be a Leone. Turns out JD was filming a snuff footage of Toni killing the Sindaccos and JD tells Toni to do some work for him. Next job for Vincenzo ends up with Toni being ambushed by the cops because the car Vincenzo wanted was being watched all along. Toni, pissed off, quits working for Vincenzo and takes his car to the crusher. Then Toni starts working for JD. He has to help JD collect money from prostitutes because JD owes Toni money. Then the cops want to raid the bar so Toni has to take Sal home before he gets arrested. JD, being a Sindacco giving inside info to Leones, informs Toni that they want to blow up the Leone casino. Toni saves the casino after killing three waves of Sindaccos and getting a giant truck-bomb away from the casino. Sal finds out about this and orders to blow up "The 'Dolls' House" - a casino and bordello run by Sindaccos - for attempting to blow up the Leone casino. During the last few missions for Vincenzo, Toni's Ma calls him to visit her. She constantly talks about Toni being too skinny, or not loving his mother or not being a real man or how others are better than Toni which makes Toni do things to prove that this ain't true. He starts by following and taking pics of Giovanni Casa who was running around the woods in a diaper with prostitutes. Ma isn't happy about that and mocks Toni for "sneaking around the woods and taking pictures of men". Then Ma rambles about the Triads making trouble and that Toni's father would not be scared to deal with them so Toni goes to kill a group and a van of Triads. Then Ma talks about Dan Sucho - a street racer that calls his mother every day - saying that Toni's father would win the race and kill Sucho. Toni does that but Ma still doesn't care. Then it is revealed that Casa refuses to pay protection money after Toni took the photos of him. Toni then takes him to sawmill, chops him to pieces and delivers Casa's body/meat to his own deli. Ma still has some problems with Toni so she ends up calling a hit on him. Toni kills all the hitmen that arrive to the restaurant and now has to fend off any hitmen that can come after him at any time. Salvatore has issues with the way the union boss, Jane Hopper, doesn't let Sal use the docks after he helped to organise the strikes so he could sneak in contraband. Sal sends Toni to meet Jane Hopper and pay her off but she only treats the payment as a donation and sends the dock workers to attack Toni but he successfully gets out the docks. Then Sal orders Toni to pick up at least 6 prostitutes and take them to the striking workers to distract them before their shift changes. Next, Toni has to scare three union bosses and change their minds to allow Sal use the docks. He does so, but it is still ineffective and Sal finally ordered Toni to pose as Jane Hopper's chauffeur and scare her completely by taking her for a rollecoaster drive in the limo - after dangerous stunts and crashes she finally agrees to cooperate with Salvatore. Maria calls Toni to help her with shoplifting and Toni is the driver. She then wants to buy drugs from Sindaccos but gets kidnapped. Toni rescues her and takes her home. She then puts herself as a reward for winning the bike race. Having no other choice, Toni has to win the bike race and Maria, as she is Salvatore's girl. Turns out she hooked up with a biker called Wayne. Their relationship doesn't last long as Maria reveals that Wayne hit her and Toni then goes to where Wayne hangs out and kills him. The next time Toni visits Maria, she has taken various drugs and need to find "zap" before she overdoses. At some point Wayne's bikers attack Toni and Maria while the latter two drive around various places looking for "zap", eventually ending up at Salvatore's Mansion. Following Sal regaining access to the docks again, there is a shipment coming in. Toni and Leones meet up with Miguel and Colombians. It turns out the deal is a bust and crossfire begins. Colombians and the cops in the docks get killed and Toni takes the contraband truck to Sal's lockup. JD now has more work for Toni. Salvatore got kidnapped after leaving the club so Toni has to follow the kidnapper and rescue Salvatore before he is taken to the crusher. Salvatore, infuriated, wants to take control of Paulie's Revue Bar. A gunfight between Salvatore & Leones and Sindaccos begins while Toni is watching over with a sniper rifle. Eventually Sal takes over the club and it's now being renovated so it'll become Sex Club 7. JD later tells Toni that Salvatore smells a rat and has to follow Massimo Torini around Portland. Torini promises Diablos Hepburn Heights and flies to Chinatown. Toni, trying to listen in to the conversation, is spotted by Triads and has to fight them off while Torini flies off. It is then revealed that JD will become a made man... which wasn't the case. After arriving to the ceremony, Mickey Hamfists shoots JD because he was a rat that screwed over his own boss and Salvatore wouldn't trust him. Toni takes Mickey home and dumps the car with JD's body in the river. Vincenzo then calls Toni to apologize for his behaviour and lets Toni know of a big shipment coming in. He wants to meet Toni on a freighter but this turns out to be a trap. Toni has to fight off a bunch of Leones with chainsaws in the freighter's hull. Once they are all dead Vincenzo comes in expecting Toni to be dead but instead Toni kills him. Toni is then informed by Sal that Diablos are trying to take over Hepburn Heights. He successfully kills all attacking Diablos but doesn't believe the area will belong to Leones for long. He is then sent to pick up money from a warehouse in Atlantic Quays. The Triads bombed the warehouse and Toni has to pick up all the money before it burns down. He then takes it back to Salvatore's. Salvatore, completely paranoid, believes the mayor is going to blame him for all the troubles in the city. He wants to do something about it and they head to the ferry terminal. They are ambushed by cops so they turn back and head to the unfinished Callahan Bridge. After successfully jumping through the bridge, they go to their new safehouse on Staunton Island. There, Salvatore orders Toni to kill Mayor R.C. Hole while he's on a jog and to take his cellphone. After this is done, Toni becomes a made man and his Ma calls off the hit that she put on him. Sal introduces Toni to a businessman called Donald Love. He says that Donald is running for mayor and so he would help the Leones once he becomes a mayor. Toni works for Donald, first stealing a hearse with a body for his morgue party. Then Toni proceeds to rig the vote by driving a propaganda van, killing three groups of people campaining for Donald's opponent, burning rigged Forelli ballot papers, helping DL to increase his publicity (but getting ambushed by Forellis) and rigging papers from a ballot van. Toni goes to the church to confess his sins but due to unlucky circumstances he meets a reported called Ned Burner posing as a priest. He uses Toni to increase his journalistic image by ordering Toni to steal confidential files from the FBI, stealing a case with diamonds and causing major road damage with a fire truck to have an exclusive report. He then orders to kill three celebrities that refused an interview with Liberty Tree. After the last job he runs out the church, leaving Toni confused who was that. Sal also has some work for Toni. First he meets Mayor's assistant on a boat to get explanations but they get ambushed by the mayor's secret service. They successfully get through and the assistant reveals that Sicilians controlled the Forellis and the mayor to start a war between the families. Salvatore is later surrounded by Forellis while spying on them and Toni has to rescue Salvatore in his bulletproof limo. They successfully get out of Fort Staunton and Sal has an idea to cause a war between the Forellis and Sindaccos. He rigs Paulie Sindacco's car to allow remote control and Toni destroys the truce meet by running over all Forellis as Paulie Sindacco. A wiseguy finds out that the Sicilians are responsible for Sindacco-Forelli war and Toni has to kill him before he tells Franco Forelli. Toni is then introduced to Leon McAffrey, a cop and an associate of Salvatore, to do some work for him if he wants him to help Sal. Toni kills a bunch of Sindaccos, lures Forelli bikers to Yardies' trap, kills 20 Forellis with a katana in Beleville Park, saves Yardies during a Yardie-Sindacco war and then destroys two ammo trucks belonging to Forellis. Donald Love finds out that his opponent, Miles O'Donnovan, has evidence that him and Toni rigged the votes. Toni has to steal the van containing evidence and take it back to Donald but this ends up unsuccessful as O'Donnovan becomes the mayor, Donald Love becomes bankrupt and Salvatore gets arrested. Toni, posing as a lawyer, meets Sal at a police station in Shoreside Vale. Sal is unsure who's fault is it that he got arrested and wants to attack both Forellis and Sindaccos since he thinks it was either of them. Toni starts off by attacking two groups of Forellis with the help of the South Side Hoodz. He is then sent to kill Paulie Sindacco before he leaves Liberty City, as they are weakened and have nowhere to go other than Las Venturas. Toni kills him and Sindaccos are finished off once and for all. Sal then gets information that the Yakuza has a huge shipment of weapons. Toni goes to the Yakuza compound and steals a tank that is soon rigged with explosives and destroyed. Shortly after killing Paulie Sindacco, Donald Love calls Toni from a flophouse in Pike Creek and tells him to meet him. He offers to 10% of something really big and then they go to the airport. They find and kill Donald's old mentor, Avery Carrington, who has redevelopment plans that he would sell to Panlantic Construction Company and they steal said plans. Ned Burner witnesses the murder and takes photos of it so Toni has to meet him at the church and intimidate him. Then they both go to his lockup so that Ned could give up the photos. Toni is blinded by a camera flash, Ned runs but Toni chases him down and kills him. Donald Love successfully sold the redevelopment plans and is going to be rich again. To celebrate, he wants to hold a new morgue party and dine on Ned's and Avery's corpses. Toni steals both corpses and takes them to Avery's plane in the airport. Toshiko Kasen discovers that Toni is responsible for attacks on Yakuza and she wants him to work for her. She reveals that she is Kazuki Kasen's, the leader of Yakuza, wife and wants him to be humiliated before his death. Toni has to steal Yakuza's arms shipment and take it to Phil Cassidy at Staunto ferry terminal. Then Toshiko wants Kazuki's money to burn on the streets and sends Toni to destroy three armored trucks carrying money from Kazuki's casino before they reach Yakuza's compound. Toni and Toshiko then go on a date to the opera in Fort Staunton but they are ambushed by the Forellis after leaving the opera. Toni is then informed that Kazuki knows who is responsible for the attacks on Yakuza and that he is going to kill them both. Toni goes to kill Kazuki in a compound (Claude's safehouse) but he is ambushed by Yakuza there. Toni kills them all and follows Kazuki's chopper to the rooftop of his casino where he kills Kazuki. He then takes Kazuki's sword to Toshiko as a proof that he is dead. She realized what happened and wanting to be truly free she commits suicide by falling out the window. Toni is then informed by Donald Love that he needs to fund explosives for Donald as they will have to "clear" a section of Fort Staunton for the plans. Once the explosives are ready, Toni is informed that he has to head along the unfinished Porter Tunnel and plant explosives in the old subway tunnel that runs underneath the area. Toni plants three explosives in the old subway, killing all the witnesses and narrowly escapes along the exploding subway exit. Entire Fort Staunton is destroyed and Donald Love is finally rich again. Donald wants to meet Toni at his new residence in Cedar Grove. He explains that the Colombians want him dead unless he pays them off and keeps quiet. Toni explains that there are Colombians already waiting outside and they both leave the house and fight off the Colombians. After Toni successfully fights off the Colombians he takes Donald to Avery's hangar in the airport and Donald Love flies away in Avery's plane. Salvatore then informs Toni that he is being taken to the court but knows that the Sicilians won't want him to get there. Toni poses as a cop and joins the convoy to defend Sal in case they are ambushed. They are eventually ambushed by the Sicilians on Cochrane Dam and they end up taking alternative route. Toni clears all roadblocks, allowing the van containing Salvatore to safely pass and they eventually make it to the court on Staunton Island. Salvatore ends up not guilty and is released. Toni then meets him at his mansion in Portland where he is discussing peace with the Sicilians as long as they follow his terms. He wants to go to mayor's office to talk about dropping the charges but finds out that the Sicilians have got him already. They go to the jetty, witness Sicilians & Mayor O'Donnovan and take a boat to follow him. Toni takes the minigun and destroys all Sicilian boats and a helicopter that follow them. Salvatore notices that the mayor is taken to Portland Rock, a lighthouse. They go up the lighthouse, killing all Sicilians waiting there and confront Massimo Torini who is holding the mayor at gunpoint. Torini explains this is nothing personal and escapes to his helicopter, circling the lighthouse while the Sicilians are shooting at Sal, the mayor and Toni from the helicopter. Toni shoots down the helicopter, killing Massimo Torini. They return to the mansion and make sure the mayor now works for Leones as a gratitude for saving him from the Sicilians. They then head to Momma's Restaurante where they meet Uncle Leone who explains all they wanted was clarity and asks if Sal and the old country are at peace now. Uncle Leone leaves while Sal says that he is a sneaky bastard and that he wouldn't trust him an inch - Uncle Leone hears that and says that "Every dog has his day...". Sal then commends Toni for his work and gives him half million dollars instead of the million dollars as he originally promised because you can't put a price on friendship. *credits roll* I hated Donald Love since III, but in LCS he COMPLETELY disgusted me. Trillest
I really disliked Donald Love in LCS too. He went from being a calm, collected businessman into a total lunatic. They took that whole cannibalsim angle way too far imo. I don't know if they were doing it for comedy or what, but I didn't find it funny and it got old fast. Also, his new voice actor made him sound very whiny and annoying. But to be honest, I can understand why Kyle MacLachlan didn't reprise his role. If I read the ridiculous dialogue they had for him I wouldn't have agreed to do it either. Lastly, it makes no sense how he could've changed so much in only 3 years. That seems like an awfully short period of time for an immature, spoiled manchild to turn into a serious and focused businessman. It would've made more sense if it was say, 6 years. *credits roll* Thanks. DEALUX
What was the plot even about? I only recall playing about 15 minutes of the game some years ago. Anyone mind explaining it? It was a good story up until you left Portland. Then with the f*cking Father Ned stuff, Donald Love cannibalism shindigs, and the Yakuza, it's hard to recall anything significant about it being a mob story. Also cannibalism? what? this game sounds really strange now. It was a throwaway line in GTA III which for some reason they felt the need to focus on in LCS' story. It felt like controversy for the sake of controversy. It didn't really add anything valuable to the story. Most of the script felt mediocre to me. GTA III and Vice City had almost movie quality scripts in my opinion. LCS felt like it was written by fans. The story didn't make a lot of sense either. Toni was doing things for a bunch of people without any motivation really. At least Claude was an assassin essentially. All he cared about was money and he wanted revenge. Naroon
I have thoroughly enjoyed LCS ever since I first played it a decade ago. Yes the story/plot aren't the game's strong suits and there are some odd retcons/writing decisions, but that's what I loved about III and LCS so much in the first place. They didn't take themselves too seriously and you really feel like you're in this crapsaccharine world where everything looks pretty on the outside, but is ridiculous and ugly in reality. I mean the "mob story" aspect goes up and down as you progress throughout the game, but not to the point where you're totally lost as to what is happening. I mean it was clear it was still about the mob stuff when Sal gets arrested and arranges all the various plots to break him out. Most things came full circle like showing how the Diablos eventually took over Hepburn Heights from the Leones and how the Sindaccos basically went extinct (at least in Liberty City by 2001), and a little insight in the Leone x Yakuza relationship, amongst other things. But the atmosphere of the map (3D era Liberty City) combined with the balanced offset of wackiness and seriousness is why I hold the game (and III) in such high regards to this day. Fun missions (most of the time), fun side diversions, fun stuff to unlock, fun vehicles to drive and collect, etc. Lots of stuff to do in general. I had a blast playing this game's multiplayer back in the day when everybody had a PSP as well. As for Toni's motivation, lol you can say the same thing for literally every GTA protagonist in existence. In literally every game the main character winds up doing random oddjobs and nonsensical missions for people he really shouldn't even be in collusion with, but somehow winds up doing all this nonsense anyway. That's GTA in a nutshell. Like what relevance did the Auntie Poullette (sp) missions have in Vice City? The Haitians weren't even a real threat to the Vercetti Gang anyway, but somehow Tommy randomly wanders into a lone house in the neighborhood, instantly gets drugged with some voodoo potion and starts doing jobs for her? WHY? Because gameplay, that's why. WildBrick142 and E Revere

Zello
I think I'm the only one who liked Donald Love in LCS watching him try to become mayor I wanted him to win then seeing him getting all torn down finally picking himself back up and leaving the city to get his sh*t together. gooeyhole
Toni's father either died when he was young or wasn't nice to him as a child and died afterwards. His mother wants a carbon copy of her husband but Toni isn't that. Toni and Tommy are similar to me, but Toni doesn't have the drive that Tommy has. Toni's content having a slice of the pie, but not the entire pie. This is actually very smart by Toni, he isn't the head honcho like Tommy is in Vice City. Toni doesn't walk around with that target on his back. Toni's very loyal to Sal because Sal is the father he always wanted. Salvatore sees Toni's strengths and is loyal to him in return. Toni has killed innocent civilians with the Fort Stauton gig. He doesn't care about anyone but those who are close to him. ...so I think the whole "Toni's is Sal's bitch" thing needs to die. Naroon
Toni killed a bunch of innocents with the Fort Staunton bomb, but also quite a few innocents died when he bombed that Sindacco club as well. I thought these two events were some of the most moral-event horizon-style events in the game and incredibly dark despite the fact that the game doesn't draw particular attention to how brutal they were. gooeyhole

Neon-Noir 198X
Eh, it's pretty forgettable. A bit of an afterthought, but still competent. Can't blame them though. The Stories games didn't quite have the budget of the mainline GTA games. For what it is, I'm happy with it.
Legomanarthur
I agree that this game feels out of the norm compared to other GTAs. For me, I see this game as a basic GTA, I don't know if I'm using the right words but I have the feeling that LCS was made just for the player's entertainment, they gave us a map with tons of activities, objects (vehicles, weapons etc...) and that's it, enjoy it (I'm not saying this game is bad, on the contrary, for its simplistic style, it makes the game unique on its own way ). I like LCS, I enjoyed it, it has its own style when you compare it to other GTAs (from deep stories, to deep gameplay elements), LCS is focused mainly on the gameplay element, not on the story, and I like it that way, even if I mainly play the GTA series for their story, I didn't mind that particularity that LCS has. The story wasn't that bad (it's still enjoyable and fun) but if you compare it with VCS, it's a totally different level of storytelling. E Revere
I don't think it's fair to criticise a game for what it couldn't and didn't try to be. LCS was alright, it was made to be. It had a seemingly low budget, and despite that, I'd wager they went all out and stretched every bit as they could. It doesn't have the most intricate story but it wasn't trying to. For what it was trying to do, it did it just fine. LCS and VCS were both spin-offs, they feel like it in every sense, especially in being PlayStation exclusives. But some of the criticism, I get. Overemphasizing Donald Love's age difference was odd, but I did like the presentation of his more youthful character. Maybe it's just me. But I enjoyed the over-the-top cannibalism stuff. And I do find a lot of moments, like him offering Toni a ribcage, watching the news, going bankrupt all clearly. LCS is definitely different from the other games. The main character is actually Salvatore, not the protagonist. I liked it. I like Salvatore as a character. Some people might not and that's fine. P.S. I didn't realize this was a resurrected thread. Pardon me. Edited March 3 by E Revere AnythingGoner, NightmanCometh96, MrPikmin16 and 1 other
