Does rockstar use P2P connection or dedicated servers?

I've heard from many people that the game's matchmaking is bad because gta online lacks dedicated servers to run the game. Instead, rockstar apparently uses P2P connection. Is this true? Does anyone actually know the answer to this? Do games such as call of duty use dedicated servers? This is just a question that randomly popped into my head as I was going through some threads today and I realized that there never really has been a clear answer. Thanks for any helpful response I receive.

They use dedicated servers people attribute magical powers to Dedicated servers that simply aren't true.

What?

 

They use both. Dedicated servers for matchmaking. P2p for actual gameplay

 

Dedicated servers are better due to it reducing the effectiveness of lag switches and having a more reliable ping.
