Why do so many people on this forum hate online gaming?

All I ever hear about Online gaming here is "SP DLC this", "GTA Online sucks, lol "GTA Online is the cancer of the GTA series", "Rockstar now caters to the Call of duty crowd", "If you play online, you're child" and other bullcrap. What's wrong with playing with other people or having an Massive Multiplayer? I just don't see the reason to hate online gaming.

I think you may be over generalizing.

Because GTA was always a single player orientated game, and the bulk of the people here are long term GTA fans.

B/W the fact that most online games are filled with chodes (reference the Online section's posters for examples) and many folks have no interest in dealing with that sort of maturity level.

I don't disagree; while I primarly want online games for extended playability, I generally don't enjoy the random people I deal with. The only downside is in order to make new friends in a game, you've got to seperate teh wheat from the chaff.

There is nothing wrong in playing with other people. You seem to have confused an MMO and a simple multiplayer together.

An MMO with microtransactions built in means its a much more bigger, focused and content driven component than a regular multiplayer that comes with single player with no additional focus or involvement from the developers after launch other than working on the SP DLC.

So, GTA Online is quite naturally hated by those who feel that the games potential gets divided between two major game modes. Thus, you are forced to play Online in order to experience the stuff that you used to enjoy all this while in previous GTAs but now becomes an exclusive thing for Online, and may remain like this forever in future titles too, making SP gradually short, boring, and lacking in the way how much the series offered without Online, and even with no DLC.

If they choose to release SP DLC then I can imagine how much the base game would turn out to be lacking on release day, while Online keeps getting bigger, better and interesting to make the concept of SP DLC nothing worthwhile in the long run.

Basically, SP takes the cuts, and suffers due to Online.

Are we talking about online gaming or GTA Online?

Cause yeah, GTA Online is crap, mainly because there is 0 content and thus 0 things to do apart from shooting eachother and it isn't a shooter.

Are you talking in general OP, or GTAO? It seems like you are more referring to GTAO...

I dont hate online gaming myself, far from it. I do hate the DRM that is latching onto everything these days. Steam isnt bad, but many other companies have much too intrusive and hampering DRM. Thats the BS I hate most.

As for gamers, yeah, theres plenty of kids screaming for no good reason! It comes down to the communities, and GTA is a big one and attracts all-sorts. Play with real friends or the handful of nice folks you may come across.

I don't hate online gaming persay, but it's not something high on my priority list. From experience with games like GTA IV, RDR etc it's more fun playing with friends. I tried to get into COD multiplayer, but it just didn't hook me.

COD multiplayer also has to be played with friends... I don't have many friends playin COD anymore and I'll tell you, it gets boring way faster when you don't play with friends.

I think that people who hate online may not have many firends to play with online. The thing with online always have been to play online with friends. The only online game I played without any friends was MGO (MGS4). But with the text chat and the voice comms, it made it a great environment.

So, for the lonely type of player, having features that are in online and not on single player is frustrating and with reasons as in a game like GTA, adding these features to single player should be quite easy and shouldn't require many efforts.

lol .. Its not about "I'm Mr.Lonely, I'm so lonely. I have no friends for Online to call my own".

I have my own multiplayer friends but we don't waste time over every nonsense that features a multiplayer.

There are far better multiplayer non-AAA classic titles that I still play occasionally with long time internet friends for years now.

GTA is a SP title mainly. MP was just a source of free roaming fun with friends with no MMO bullsh*t.

That's all there's to it.

A simple, no nonsense kind of multiplayer is always welcome, esp. for those who have friends and can use the open world potential for having a good time with human players!

Some of them have a point, although I don't hate online gaming, I just think it's hit and miss like anything else in life. Online gaming can be fun but it can also be frustrating. At the same time, pushing a game like GTA into a different direction can cause a massive shift in who they cater to. I mean, look at GTA V and its side partner GTA Online and tell me how many DLCs were made for GTA Online and how many for V. All of GTA V's DLC has been for its online component and not offline. I play both so it is what it is, but if you're either 'principled' against Online or you just prefer playing alone then you're missing out on content because R* has released nothing for single player besides letting you play with the new cars minus Heist ones. Anyway, I'm digressing. But my point is that sometimes focusing the game's dynamic in a new direction can abandon the traditional fans of single player who helped build the series with their support.

I'll be quite honest, GTA Online is a massive disappointment. And it really sucks that Rockstar hasn't released an SP DLC yet(that they f*cking promised!). GTA Online is a f*cking mess, and it had a lot of potential. But it seems Rockstar is really only focusing on making money off of those f*cking Shark cards, instead of making it awesome. Every f*cking new thing they f*cking add, costs a f*cking ton of ingame cash. And they aren't really balancing anything in it. The newer and more expensive sh*t is better, instead of being slotted somewhere in between the current roster of sh*t.(sure they can add a new top dog once in a while, but it's always a new top dog)They are trying to make the game a grind, and then punish you for grinding. Why? Cause they want you to buy those f*cking shark cards.

And the load times to get onto the f*cking servers are f*cking terrible. They take forever to load and make you wish you were playing something else.

Online gaming in general? I like it a lot. I play CS:GO often enough. I've wasted hundreds of hours playing EVE Online a few years ago.

having an Massive Multiplayer?

LOL. GTA Online is f*cking tiny. 32 players max? And the jobs aren't in the same world? Go play a real mmo. GTAO is pretty much a standard multiplayer game with progression, but the lobby is an open world map instead of a menu. That's it. Jobs pretty much never change, except when your teammates do something stupid.

Maybe it's not that for you, but I'm pretty sure that it's that for other people. I'm not saying it's a bad thing. Some people decide not to play with others by choice.

There's of course people who simply don't like the game online, no big explaination needed here.

You seem to be talking about GTAO instead of general online gaming dude. GTA Online is a joke compared to most online games due to the horrid matchmaking, incessant loading screens, and just terrible maintenance on the developer's end. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the game during its initial prime (pre-Independence Day), but nowadays, the game is hitting a brick wall with R* North's bad habit of adding redundant content instead of fixing bugs and glitches, even the matchmaking servers for that matter..... regarding "Single Player DLC," it's almost been 2 years since the game came out and no official word has been mentioned at all. That's extreme for a AAA title like GTA, but then again, XB1/PS4 and PC ports were still being developed.

PC/PS4/XB1 versions aren't ports, the last gen versions are. They developed the game thinking on current gen and then stripped down to make it work on the old consoles.

To OP: You're probably reading the words of some long term GTA fans, those who started playing back when online gaming wasn't the main focus of the gaming industry. Those who are more interested in playing an interesting story rather than being killed countless times by cheaters in an online match.

They have their right to express their complaints, pretty much like you have your right to express your opinion.

Online gaming doesn't really feel very rewarding to me at the end you up with nothing especially when it comes the time to shut down the servers. I play a lot of sports games an their servers and multiplayer have a short lifetime they get shut down at the end of the year when the newer one releases.

I don't have a problem with multiplayer just don't make the entire game online and remove stuff from offline players which it seems lots of games are doing these days.

GTA Online is the only MP I enjoy.

I hate MP in general, but GTA Online got me hooked. I love it, but still hate every other MP out there. Maybe if Modders didn't exist I'd think differently but they f*ck up any MP game thinking it's "funny"

I don't believe that OP has any real context from which to draw here, I wouldn't in all my days associated with this forum say that the majority dislike online gameplay, be it MMO or limited-lobby.

I think you've focused on the nits that other posters here have picked, such as the12yo "chodes" (sic) that often infest popular titles.

Really, this thing occurs everywhere in life, not just in multiplayer channels; and you'll find as you get older, so do the asswipes.

Your life will always be peppered with 20something, 30something, and older dickweeds looking to piss in the punchbowl for their own prurient giggles, or simply because they know no better.

I've played many MP titles, and really, the vast majority are good-to-neutral; the level of immaturity is only partly proportionate to the target audience and target platform, the greater part is quite proportionate to the title's level of gameplay sophistication.

Go on Whirled (while it was still lively) and there's NO END to the tykes trying out their newfound edginess. Try any popular console title with confined controls and arenas, and you get the same no matter how "adult" it may be. I find the players in TF2 to be a great cut above those in say, Black Ops, due to the very different game dynamic that requires greater team methodology in spite of its blatant cartoonishness. Play Tera and experience the Great Antisocial Void, but spend some time in Mabinogi, and though it's kawaii as fhuk, it attracts a much more sophisticated fanbase because of the gameplay elements.

And I finish with a disclaimer that this is all opinion loosely based on my experience.

Your results may vary. :p

PS4 and X1 weren't even ideas when V started developing, which was 2008 mind you. The current gen versions were built on the PC version, definitely not the other way around.
