Vsync or not to Vsync & do you get actually get a rock on 60fps?

I've recently come back to GTAV SP and for some unknown reason(s) (rockstar updates?) I do not get a nice smooth experience as before, I last played in May. Have updates caused performance issues either with micro stutters or FPS drops? I am getting quite a few stutters when driving and screen tearing during cut scenes.

Do people get better performance using Vsync or not? I normally don't use Vsync on GTA V. I have turned off the extended distance scaling which has improved FPS to above 60 however i still get stutters now and again.

It might be worth forcing Vsync On via your driver control panel and leaving On in game too just to test.

I know if I turn Vsync off it stutters horribly, 80fps feels like 20fps etc.

So I went to the Experience optimised settings in the end which is now using 4k DSR and with no vysnc on at all its running smoothly no stutters and looks crystal clear.... :)

I maxed everything with 2K resolution. I getting 35-45 FPS with those options. So, best V-Sync option is "Half" for me. 30 FPS locked like consoles with ultra-mega quality. And I have Xbox Controller already.

How does the game feel at 30fps? I find that 50fps or below its feels sluggish like everything is slower or is it just a placebo effect?

Although i might try this just to see all the settings on max and see what it looks like.

Running at 4k DSR is clear and sharp looking no need for AA at all but I have to drop all the other settings like shader and textures so you do lose a lot of detail.

I play at locked 45 fps, 1080p, FXAA, all maxed out except grass (very high), MSAA off, no high res. shadows and no frame scaling...and thats it. I am satisfied with that.

I tried it locked at 30fps and it is actually playable although 60fps is smoother the difference isnt as big as I thought it would be.

I'm now running Adaptive vsync using the nvidia control panel, 2k dsr, mixture of high/v.high settings and it runs at near perfect 60fps, no screen tearing, no stutters and looks awesome. No AA at all.

I do often wonder if people are maxing out settings to much e.g. as soon as I put shadows or post fx to v.high the framerates drops and I start to get stutters.

Will try 45fps and increase some of the settings and see what its like.

I can't really get solid 60 fps since my laptop 's refreshrate is 48hz. however without vsync i usually get 40-70 fps almost maxed out

So after lots of playing around i think Adaptive vsync at 60fps forced in the nvidia CP is the way to go. I have settings on max (grass on high) and advanced settings switched off and it stays at 60fps 90% of the time, no screen tearing and maybe the odd stutter but generally nice and smooth :)

Also have triple buffering enabled for vsync in the nvidia CP with MFAA+MSAA+TXAA x2.
