Gun Control

Hate fuels violence no matter what side you're on.

So why shouldn't we impose proper restrictions and checks for the ownership of a gun? If the nation is hateful as it is, then limiting access to these things whose sole purpose is to kill would be a start. Or will you wait until every American is nice and friendly and hope the problem solves itself?

Orrrrrrrrrr, we could just ban guns. Just a thought. Could possibly work but I'm not sure. Nah, actually on second thought dont see how taking away guns will reduce people shooting each other with said guns. That just doesn't make any sense at all.

As I posted last last time, I don't see many people on this thread advocating for the bans of guns. Or in the media. What I do see happen is people advocating for more control, more regulations, more checks. Cooperation between states. Ban of certain types of weapons, or at least the need for specialized licenses for them. Didn't the very Walmart that got shot up sell guns too?

That last paragraph was sarcasm, I was poking fun at how easily the mass shooting rates would drop if gun control was put into place. I'm all for gun control but until that happens its best for us to figure out what motivates someone to commit a mass shooting how we can prevent it from happening.

Hatred of your neighbor is hatred of your neighbor no matter which way you slice it. It is justice to hate the sin, but anathema to hate the sinner. You cannot make violence go away by hating someone. You only feed it.

Did you read that in a fortune cookie?

America only has a gun problem on the surface.

This would only hold true if the US was unexceptional compared to other developed nations in respect to firearm-related violence, but it's not.

The US murder rate is between three and ten times that of comparable Western countries with similar GDP per capita. Over 80% of those murders are committed using firearms.

The frequency with which mass shootings occur in the United States- when categorised as "at least four people killed or injured"- at over one per day for 2019, is an order of magnitude higher than in other comparable Western countries.

The same economic, political, social and health pressures exist in Europe and Australasia as they do in the US. They exist on the US' northern border.

The only fundamental difference is firearms- not the ownership of them itself, but the cultural attitudes towards them.

That's what is harmful; the cultural attitudes which result in ease of access; the contradictory legislation which results from lawmakers avoiding inflaming the Christian Right by imposing what any sensible person would think would be reasonable restrictions on firearms- like confiscating the guns of people accused of domestic violence.

At the core you're right, hatred is the core issue here, but it's ready access to firearms which permits it to manifest as violence and that to be exercised impersonally, easily, against multiple people and over significant distances in very short spaces of time, which is the real problem. And that's where the US diverges from the rest of the West.

God, this idea that far right bigots are a deciding factor why there's so many shootings in America is ridiculous.

They are, though not necessarily in the direct sense (though far right bigots do seem to perpetrate vastly more mass shootings than any other political demographic).

It's more that there's a strong alignment between far-right political causes and the gun lobby/2nd amendment protectionists, who are the main impediment to passing sensible firearms legislation in the US.

lol I actually didn't know you weren't required to have a license to get a firearm in the US. That does sound like it is too easy to get one. As a person who is somewhat libertarian it sounds cool but probably only in an ideal society where guns would be used for fun, not killing. Where violence would essentially be nonexistent.

Some psychological tests and basic training should be a given. Why should you be able to own a gun if you don't know how to use it properly and safely? Might as well make driving without a license\training legal as well.

I know...isn't that crazy.

I also like how you don't need any gun safety course or anything to just walk into a shooting range, rent a gun and some bullets and just go shooting off.  At least that's how it is in this city.

I could walk into any gun show in my state(PA) and walk out with a bunch of guns...and all the 'gotta have' accessories.

There are just so many simple things that are wrong and could be...should be changed but they arent because they've been that way forever... and it's obvious that the average american doesn't like change.

20 bucks says not much (if anything) changes as far as US and guns.  At most we might see universal background checks.  And even if we do that I'm not sure it covers the gun show loophole.  And...and...and...even with universal background checks how many of these mass shootings happen with legally acquired guns?  Most of them.

Mitch McConnell is shamelessly sitting on two gun control measures passed by the House five months ago. He wont let them get to a vote in the Senate. He's so far up the NRA's ass it's not even funny.

I'm watching cable news this very second and it looks like Mitch responded to the issue.  Now he is considering maybe using parts of it as the Senate puts their own bill together when they reconvene.

I kid not.

Even if by cruel cosmic joke something of worth got through the Senate, Trump would never sign it into law. He's already using video games as a scapegoat.

^Just more mindless scapegoating by our beloved elected officials. We have the most lax gun laws on the planet, of course we're going to lead in mass shootings. There are 400 million guns in this country. There are more of them then there are people! For f*ck's sake we lifted the ban on assault weapons. It's shameful. Nobody needs an assault weapon.

yeah man you need assault rifles. because if your government goes tyrannic you can fight back. we all know this can happen in 2019. i mean we know there are complotists at all political levels in the USA. all USA politics are DNA modified, and want to bring the antechrist reign. i mean who ignores this. it makes me so sad when i see such s.. happening to that great country that deserves better. but don't be ashamed. facism is going well all around the world as i speak. don't be ashamed. and this is not the politics the problem, the problem is the people that vote for them. thinking they're doing a kind of positive revolution. omg..

I don't subscribe to that whole "Well what if the government goes tyrannical?" line of thinking. Even if they decide to start rounding us up, would our military really obey the people telling them to do it? I'd like to think they'd realize how inhumane and awful something like that is and defect to our side and help us fight back.

"Well what if the government goes tyrannical?"

The moronic thing about this argument is that the people that are afraid of a tyrannical government are the ones enabling the tyranny - conservative Americans. They voted for a fascist who drools over authoritarian dictators. Also, they're the ones that are in favor of private prisons and mass incarceration, they're in favor of militarizing the police force, they always defend the cops who shoot unarmed people and they generally make every excuse under the sun for why the government should infringe upon liberties of people they don't like (women, homosexuals, ethnic, racial and religious minorities). They literally perceive freedom as something that should only apply to them. They think that being able to discriminate against others is a form of freedom that is being denied to them. They're full of sh*t and they'll never actually take up arms to defend their precious freedom. They're too stupid to notice that it's slowly being taken away from them. These imbeciles are still convinced that taking away net neutrality makes internet more free.

gun control is a problem that pther countries tried to bring under American eyes for ages. it's been years we're telling you that you're the only country in the universe with such problem. in France we have the same dudes. but the difference here. if the guy goes mad it'll be almost impossible to find something else than a hunting weapon. thus the damage is systematically low

If you google gun stores to the amount of grocery stores and McDonald's in the US , you'd come up with plenty of site's  mentioning  that there are more  gun store's then both McD's and grocery stores in the U.S.A.

I read that a recent state court decision has paved the way for gun manufacturers to be sued for wrongful death.

I honestly think that’s the best way forward in a ridiculously litigious society. If gun manufacturers and shops can be held responsible for this crap we’ll see a lot of change happen quickly.

Best part is, prohibiting the manufacturing of weapons and punishing the sales of weapons has absolutely nothing to do with the 2nd amendment. A real top-down solution!

Mass shootings in Mexico are made by drug dealers, but I never heard one made by a gamer (I don't watch TV and rarely read the daily news).

It’s the ongoing Sandy Hook v. Remington fiasco.

Latest update, of course, Remington is fighting for dismissal:

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-court-sandy-hook/maker-of-gun-used-in-sandy-hook-massacre-asks-supreme-court-to-block-lawsuit-idUSKCN1UR5H5

The cool thing is that the State Court felt Remington’s marketing practices were something to be held accountable for. Ah, America.

As much as I think US have very lax gun laws, it seems to me that your boys are in dire need of a fix. I bet she's not the only one in the US that spews such garbage:

What's driving young people to the right is sh*tlords like Steven Crowder and Carl Benjamin, aka Sargon of Akkad. Crowder debates SJW liberal arts majors college students to pass off as intelligent. Sargon masquerades as a "classical liberal" to lure them in, when in reality he deepthroats conservative values and is one of Trump's biggest sycophants. Thankfully, Metokur has taken the piss out of Sargon and people see him for the brainlet he is now.

Sargon made his name by criticizing the dumbest person vaguely related to the video games industry - Anita Sarkesian. Imagine taking the time out of your day to address any of her retarded points.
