GTAPlayer653423
So, I just got shot by the police and got wasted due to the fact that I ran down an alley and was trying to get away on foot (didn't feel like driving). Anyways, I go to climb this fence and when I was getting shot from behind Michael (the character I was playing as) was taking his sweet ass time climbing over the fence. The thing is, I couldn't "cancel" the climb. You know when you walk up a fence and press the button to climb over it right? Well, when you start climbing over, it doesn't allow you to "drop" down from the fence. Instead, your character still climbs over it. If there was that simple option to "cancel" the climb, I wouldn't have got shot from behind and I would have been able to drop down and shoot the cops. Also, we can't even shimmy in this game. GTA IV and GTA San Andreas allowed to to drop down from an object or fence when climbing over it. This was useful if you wanted to deal with a threat in a hurry instead of taking your sweet ass time climbing and taking damage. In IV and San Andreas, there was the option to "HOLD ONTO THE LEDGE OR FENCE" and you could choose whether to climb over or DROP DOWN. In V, it's like it climbs over for you without and freedom to knock yourself off of a ledge or fence. Just my 25 cents... [THIS IS NOT A BIT**ING THREAD BY ANY MEANS BY THE WAY...] This is something that should be in the game in my opinion. What if you really don't feel like climbing this fence for example? You climb on it and YOU SHOULD be able to choose whether or not you want to climb over it but no... In V, it FORCES you to climb it. PeriodZeroHero
Wow I never had this problem but now that you mentioned it I have always been a critic about the climbing mechanics in this game. I'm outraged that rockstar hasn't patched this. Canceling my pre order as soon as possible RayB_ThrowaStack and SmokesWithCigs
The Deadite
At least climbing it's more fluid than in IV. But you can't cancel the climb, grab ledges or shimmy Edited August 23, 2015 by Midnight Hitman http://sig.grumpybumpers.com/host/TheDeadite.gif
Osho
I agree. It should not force you rather allow you to decide how you want to approach and climb over things, namely, free form style! For more: Jumping CanOdope
Tjeerd84
Obviously it is quite hard to make an ingame person stop executing an animation and then start another animation to show the cancelling (dropping of halfway the climb). The cancelling could result in glitchy gameplay and non fluid animations. The devs made a trade off here and it's clear that they have been very aware of this 'problem' and decided that they prefer the current sollution for some reason. Osho
Is it hard ( in RAGE ) for the developers to ditch the automatic animated responses on the objects you are climbing? The game should simply design the jumping or climbing over objects to be able to control freely the character want to do rather than force the character to follow the animation of jumping. Some thing more like the GTA SA controls for climbing.
nkjellman
Yeah, I agree. Climbing is more fluid in GTA V, but it was definitely striped down. Hopefully, modders can rework the on foot mechanics in this game with the following. -Allow us to climb and shimmy. -Allow us to jump in place. Believe me, that would help with parkor when we are on tiny surfaces and don't have much room to run and jump. -Change the stelth mechanic. To crouch, press the stelth button. To lay down, double tap the stelth button. Then, to make stelth itself more interesting, by holding the stelth button, you would be in stelth mode till you release the button. A slip of the thumb could take you out of stelth mode and cause you to alert your enemies. -Allow the player to dive underwater in more shallow areas. -When exiting the Dingey, tap the exit button to stand up like you do on other boats, and hold the exit button to abandon ship. Xing of Virtue
Excuse me, but when you say it's "fluid", is it a good or a bad thing?
oCrapaCreeper
Excuse me, but when you say it's "fluid", is it a good or a bad thing? It's fluid as in the controls are typically responsive and you can do multiple climbs in quick succession and recover fast after preforming them. gooeyhole
At least climbing it's more fluid than in IV. But you can't cancel the climb, grab ledges or shimmy See I get the fluid argument but the thing is, just because it's speedy (I need a better word) doesn't mean it feels more responsive. Most of the time on V if I want to go on foot I can do so. But in the clutch, with half health and a high wanted level, that cancelling could be crucial. If the animation was more responsive to his controls he could potentially go in the special ability mode and kill them. When I die in both games usually I'm like, "yeah, that's my bad", however I've noticed I've had a bit more cheap deaths in V when I compare it to my time playing IV. The difference is probably minimal though.
BarryRiley
There are a lot of the little animations that annoy me when you're in a rush. It's not as bad as in IV though. Nothing was more irritating than getting away from the cops and getting in to a car, only to be treated to the 'getting in a car' animation which took absolutely ages while you were getting shot
thafablifee46
Yeah V is kind of bad when it comes to the animations. Ive had so many cheap deaths in boats. When you press triangle, the character runs and dives into the water and there is no way to stop him. I usually get shot to sh*t before i can climb back on board. Also the ragdoll effects seem to have gotten worse. But yeah, about the gate thing, you should be able to cancel animations. Sometimes i want to shimmy but you cant pilscy

Getting away from 2 helicopters and police vans, press triangle and one guy in the boat gently moves over so you can slowly position yourself in the available seat while being shot in the face. It goes from an absolute life or death sense of emergency to a leisurely fishing trip
