Huh, nice work. I'm still struggling to get the bones to export correctly.

I also tried to do a playerx model based of the xbox version but the exporter is broken :/

 

EDIT: sh*t new page :D

 

EDIT2: Okay, i finally fixed it by upgrading to a newer version of 3DS Max.

Seeing that robbery cutscene over and over again, I remembered that I've always been wondering why Miguel's animation is out of sync with the car. He's literally clipping through the door when he slides to stop because he is a split second late and can't keep up.

I think that R* didn't really care about these little details since this game was mostly played on CRT TV's back then. Also the horrible trail effect which was on by default hid all these "bugs" :D

When in the name of Sal Leone's ghost were Xbox raindrops ported over to PC? Was it something I missed? It is SkyGFX? HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN UNDER THIS ROCK

Well, if Rim is including all of this in the next update of the Xbox mod, I could wait because for the life of me, I couldn't get SkyGFX to work when I first installed it way back when. Plus, I uninstalled GTAIII months ago and am too lazy to do the process of getting it to start up on Windows 10 :p, Hopefully skin and bones will be included as well

I saw some weird things in The Exchange cutscene:

Those cartel members have dark hands:

Maybe wrong texture mapping on the cartel hands? what about in game?

I can't tell how do they look in game since these are special cutscene models.

Does this mod partially disable collision for peds? You said somewhere that you can't shoot limbs or heads off anymore and I didn't realize what that meant. This means that some rampages are impossible to complete because the bullets go right through people's heads (no collision).

Yup, there's collision bugs. Ideally I will have some debug draw functions because it sucks not being able to see collision models.

Updated the zip. It's now using skygfx 2.2 to set the xbox rim pipeline for unskinned models.

Is the plan to also port over the Xbox animations, so that additional things like finger movements are also animated (as they are in the Xbox version)?

 

Would be cool if this could be done for Vice City too!

Currently I don't plan to support cutscene hands. It seems like to great an effort for something you hardly notice.

Ah I thought that was the main motivation behind this mod? As I've seen xbox model conversions before without the animations and the reasoning was always that gta3 didn't support bone animations.

 

I guess the benefit for pedestrians (that don't have the new hands, as they were only added to major CS characters) is that they no longer have dodgy "joints". Although this is also a downside as it disables the limb detachment. Swings and roundabouts I guess.

 

From you saying it is a lot of work to add these animations, I assume then, that it is far more complicated than converting the Xbox / mobile animation file format to something the pc bone system you have created can read?

 

I would strongly disagree that it isn't noticeable.

(Sorry, I couldn't find a video of just cutscenes from the xbox or mobile versions - there are no doubt better cutscenes to display the animations but this is the first one I found. There is the playlist in the sidebar for more anyway).

 

Go back and play the xbox version (or I assume also the mobile ones, though I haven't played those) and you will see it adds quite a bit of life to the cutscenes.

 

Particularly when the hands are in such a strange and awkward "claw" pose by default.

 

 

 

 

Anyway, it's your mod, and I appreciate any work people do to try and improve the game.

They're not skinned either. Why would you have skinned geometry if you don't intend to animate it. The problem is that the android version, which has symbols, doesn't have cutscene hands. VC has them, but they're a bitch to reverse still. I honestly don't care about them at all as I never watch cutscenes. Sorry, if it were easier....but it's annoying as f*ck.

Animated hands is unnesessary, very unnesessary. There is some other things left, which have much higher priority IMHO.
