Weird Little Details Discussion

Gnocchi Flip Flops

With games like this, often times I like to think outside of the box and try to find things that regular players often overlook or simply don't care about. Yesterday I paid the KRAPEA (IKEA) site a visit and learned that they had posted a very lengthy and in-depth description of the KRAPEA "experience" and I found it funny as f*ck. I've been to IKEA, so I know what they're talking about and it's funny how they constantly mock the Swedes as well.

I'm still astonished by how much detail and effort they threw into the internet in IV. It's so in-depth. And yes, I'm gonna say it, I was kind of disappointed to learn the the internet in V was nowhere nearly as in-depth nor did it make me laugh. IV has a lot of little details left here and there, whether it be a simple hidden website or a hidden garden on a building's rooftop or a random dark alleyway. I think Los Santos (just the city) is probably one of the most beautiful cities Rockstar has developed but I think Liberty City has more hidden stuff to uncover. I'm making this topic to discuss or tell stories about the weird little details you've found within this game.

Agree on the in-game Internet. I think I've spent more than 10 hours on it on my current playthrough and I'm probably not even done with half of it.

Some other details that the majority of players probably missed:
- small details on cars
- the names of all the subway stations

- the ability to give money to hobos and sax players

- numerous subtle sound effects which can only be heard when playing with headphones

- God knows how many different dialogues and remarks from peds all around the city

I must admit I'm guilty of most of these too, but I'm working on it. Doing a really detailed playthrough and it's awesome. It's amazing and at the same sad that someone actually put time and effort into programming these things, only to be seen and found by only a handful of players. Maybe that's why they decided not to bother too much with details in V? God, yes, I know, another comparison, but what can I do...

And honestly, this is something along the lines of "Cool things you didn't know about", so I don't know if an additional thread is necessary, but there you go, I decided to post anyway. I'll surely add some more details later if I think of anything else.

Yeah, IV has a lot of detail in vehicles. If you look closely, you can see the light bulbs through the tail light covers. Personally l love this little piece of detail. Shame it isn't featured in V. The absence of this makes tail lights look kind of sticker-ish.

I love how when you bang a car into a wall it will leave a nice crack mark in the wall. I love the difference in sound effects when walking on different materials like concrete, grass, metal grating. I love that things in LC have a purpose, such as the bells of the churches ringing upon the hour, peds cleaning and admiring their work and even the car dealership in Middle Park East opening it's doors at 0900. All the little details make IV that much more interesting to play and most enjoyable to explore.

I like when you come out of the Booth Tunnel you get that signal interruption like when someone's about to call your phone with the radio on. Oh and the "ringing" after explosions.

I remember the first time I heard that buzz buzz burr noise during gameplay I actually reached for my real mobile phone because I thought I had a text message. Lol

Mailmen.

There are mailmen.

And Electric workers, and pizza place employees, and drug dealers, and Post Op (UPS) employees in designated areas, where they should be. It rocks.

I also like the little animations Peds do, like buying drugs, tying their shoes, and even stepping in dog sh*t. The amount of detail in Peds in amazing.

I like that there is a job for security guards to open the sliding gate at Port Tudor (I really thought that was cool and made me feel important) and they also open gates for you in other places. They actually served a purpose and were not just mindlessly walking the sidewalk.

They feel like they have a purpose.

Especially Darnel.

He's cool. He lets me use his computer, nice guy.

Agree with Fahrenheit. He is a nice guy but pressing circle to log out of his computer grants him a free punch in the face.

Poor man.

When you're hanging with a friend and you call him when he's right in front of you, Niko will say "Sorry, I'm just playing with this tring".

That's still a crazy detail for me.

I like it where games are kind of "history" for GTA and that they feature something for the first tike, especially SA is good at this!

FOR CHRISTSAKE, MAN! IT'S ABOUT IV, NOT SA!

But, yeah, GTA IV had:

- Annihilator, returned in V, meaning that it was a good feature in IV!

- Buzzard (TBOGT), returned in V, even with an unarmed version that has better acelleration!

- APC, kind of cheap Police Tank!

- HD Universe Infernus!

There could be more, BTW, wouldn't APC in V be awesome?

Most car enthusiasts, and players in general I guess, are aware of this detail in the game but I'll point it out. Cars can spawn with different parts, and some vehicles are used as gang cars and are customized extensively by their respective gangs. I'll give a few examples:

Look at the vents on the fender right above the rear wheels on this Turismo:

Now, the Turismo can also spawn with raised intakes in the place of the vents above the rear fenders.

It took me a long time to realize the Feltzer spawns with different grille options. Look at the Feltzer's grille here and you'll notice a proudly-displayed Benefactor badge:

aopgYaD.jpg?1

And you can get it without this grille, and I'm pretty sure there's another grille option too, not too sure.

There are many details like this found on various cars. The Blista Compact (spoiler, skirt, fog lights, roof, sun visor), Ruiner (hood bulge, solid t-tops, glass t-tops, removed t-tops), Faction (solid t-tops, glass t-tops), Sultan (hood) and Infernus (spoiler) come to mind but there are more. This detail is also found in GTA V, but not to the extent that it was in IV.

Anyway, on to the gang cars. You can find heavily customized gang-used cars. I'll post pictures of some.

Sadly, yet another detail that didn't make it into IV was the fact that NPCs would drop garbage out of their vehicles while driving, such as coffee cups or cigarettes.

Yes they do, only when they're stopped however.

Pity they ruined it in V, making it just a giant piece of flying sh*t with those useless miniguns.

I don't think I'd throw used coffee cups out my window at 50 mph.

Don't forget the sexy Super GT. You can get one with a regular hood and then one with a lump on it's hood, kind of similar to how a regular 3 series has a flat hood and the M3 has a 'lumpy' hood.

The DF8-90 has some cool variants too. There's one with no spoiler and no badges, then there's one with a small spoiler and V6 badges, and then there's one with a more aggressive spoiler and V8 badges. I love that. The variants in this game definitely added a more realistic feel to the traffic system. I wish they would've expanded upon it in V but sadly they didn't. Just because there's customization doesn't mean that cars shouldn't have special variants.

The Cavalcade mafia was pretty cool too. I was trying to replicate one just a few hours ago on V.

I did really liked the Lokus, that almost no one probally remember. No love for this little BMW? :(

The only Lokus I liked what that unique black one Niko had to escort somebody important in. Otherwise, I think it's a terrible car. Sounds like a vacuum cleaner and steers like a brick. Also, I think it's slightly based on an early 00's Lexus GS if I recall correctly.

Yep it's also based on a Lexus. You're right, the sound and handling is totally crap, but sincerly I like it's look.

And, I think you mean this one:

Seriously? I had no idea the Super GT could come with a hood bulge. It's crazy that I'm still learning about this game after so many years.

Another small detail would be the supercharger whine that can be heard on some muscle cars. It can be heard very clearly while accelerating and looking backwards in, for example, a Sabre Turbo or Tampa (IIRC). That was a really neat yet minuscule detail that added a lot of immersion as it made muscle cars feel that extra bit more "muscley."
