How To Post An Image on GTAForums

Question

~Tiger~

HOW DO I POST AN IMAGE on GTA Forums?

The image that you wish to post must be online, either on a website or on an image hosting site such as http://imgur.com/
The simple way to post an image is to type the image tags thus:

[img=image url]

There must be no spaces and of course 'image url' is a link to the image in your online host account or on a website, not on your PC or mobile.

If you wish to upload several images, this is best done from a PC rather than a mobile device.
First upload the desired image(s) to an image hosting site:

http://www.tinypic.com
http://www.imgur.com

After it is uploaded copy paste the URL (note: it has to end with an imagine extension e.g .png, .jpg, .gif)

8gdZme2.png

Hit the little tree symbol as shown above.

Click "Ok" and you can go ahead and post the image.

height=375 width=575 URL something like that.

As far as I am aware, there isn't, no.

It probably isn't necessary as the forums will automatically resize large images in posts, so you don't need to worry about stretching the page or anything like that with very large images.

Otherwise, your best bet is to resize the images yourself to the size that you want them to be before uploading and posting.

WHAT!?

For what its worth,

It still makes more sense to me to just take the direct link to the image and stick it in between the img brackets. Like so...

[img=place_your_pic_address_here]

That's how we did it in the old days, and we didn't complain! We thought it was great!

On imgur links, you can add a non-capital "L" to the end of the URL to make it into a much smaller image. Example: http://i.imgur.com/OqN9xrA.png becomes http://i.imgur.com/OqN9xrAl.png

(Notice the "l" after the A)

It doesn't work on this example because the image is small enough, so it doesn't need to be resized, but it's an effective solution. GTAForums also resizes pictures automatically so they fit more properly in the forum style, and responsively with your screen resolution, but it can prove annoying for tall images.

You need to link the direct image:

https://i.imgur.com/AT4sKyM.jpg
notice the .jpg at the end - when viewing the image, right click and copy image address.

Aye, dunno what it's like on all devices but if you hold press, you can copy the image or view the image and copy the url up to the .jpg.

Remember, if you're not pasting the image directly, you'll need to use BBCode if you're using the URL - i.e.

[img=URL]
so in this instance

Make sure to use the BBCode if you are wanting to embed the image in a post. In this instance:

4vBvJtv_d.jpg?

[img=https://i.imgur.com/4vBvJtv_d.jpg?]

Or so it doesn't embed as a tiny thumbnail like above:

If it's a youtube video, post the non-mobile link and it'll automatically embed.

Non-youtube videos can't be embedded at the moment.

BBCode:

Without BBCode, click on the special formatting icon in the reply box ips_bbcode.png and choose spoiler there.

Does this topic cover Gif support? For the last half hour I've been trying to post the following gif here (https://i.imgur.com/iyA68rJ.gif) to the forum but when I do I'm greeted with the message "An error occurred You are not allowed to use that image extension on this community."

I've checked. The file is definitely a GIF at 15 Megabytes but the forum (or board software) still won't allow me to post it. Tried different sites. Even uploaded the Gif image as a Gif image to other Gif sites and still getting the same message. (Unless I'm hitting a file limit for gifs that can be posted here?)

I use to know how to do this a while back off the top of my head but it seems I've forgotten and am not having much luck recently. Any ideas or help on how to post my Gif or why the forum software isn't allowing it?

Make sure you're using the direct image link, that's usually what causes that message to pop up. Edited by RedDagger
