Using the Content Creator to make new maps (not missions).

Hi guys, nice to see that there is a forum for modding. I was wondering about the Content Creator.. shouldn't it be possible to use it to edit a map, and enabling it to load both vanilla and modded 3d assets?

 

I am somewhat proficient in 3d modeling and this tool should have some potential if modified. As opposed to the o'l Shadow Mapper..

Nah, every 3D package will do it more efficiently than the Creator, when the import plugins are out.

 

Creator just let you spawn and save props, to edit terrain, it must be completely rebuilt, since it only uses game resources.

Yeah, i get that we won't be able to create a landmass with a modified Content Creator, but it should be able to serve as a framework for asset placement that is much easier to use than tools such as Shadow Mapper..? Or are there any tools like that in the works?

Content Creator isn't open source, Shadow Mapper is - i would bet on adaption of Shadow Mapper for V.

 

Also, R* will sure have something against disassembling their horribly obfuscated code and surely the next update will mess up all connections again until developers give up. Now that i think, i might have a question to the devs of OpenIV...

Hmm, maybe so. I guess all we can do until then is make assets and hope that we will get some kind of half-finished tools in 4 years. Considering the fantastic job the OpenIV - team did, let's hope they will look into it someday.
