Any good tips on killing the 200 pigeons?

This is proabably the most difficult task ever in any GTA game, I really don't know how long it will take, but its gunna take LONG.

Is there any good tips, using helicopter maybe?

Tips would be:

1. Don't try to do them all in a row, or you will be admitted into a insane asylum.

2. Follow a Youtube Guide; If you miss 1 or something, you'll be very angry as it'll more times than not be impossible to find.

3. Take regular breaks; perhaps only do 25 to 50 a sitting.

4. Use a Helicopter to land on near by roofs and try to snipe and/or aim accurately to shoot the pigeons. If you get a wanted level, it won't matter as no fat ass cop will make it onto the roof you are on, unless there is a ladder or something to climb.

5. Beware of the Gangs as they sometimes shoot at you if they are around and hear a gun shot.

It DOES take long. Around 6-8 hours, possibly 10 depending on transportation you use. They aren't hard but it's Rockstar's way of adding in FILLER and trying to make the game longer.

EDIT: Don't go out or order. Like, don't shoot one just cuz you see it. More times than not, you will forget the location. ONLY do them when you are ready to do them.

Well, the only tip I can think of is don't kill all 200 in one sitting. that would be way too tedious. just kill a certain amount then take a break and do something else and then come back after and knock off a few more. I've never actually done it myself but that's how I would go about it.

You should start from the Acter Industrial Park, and use the locations-guidance from that site "What They Do Not Want You To Know".

It only appears in one of your computer e-mails once you finish the campaign. You'll have to use various vehicles to reach certain pigeons.

I kill the pigeons in the Broker/Dukes/Bohan area right after "The Cousins Bellic". There are no phone calls at this stage, so you can take your time. If you want, you can do the stunt jumps in this area too.

When you get the call from Elizabeta that makes "The Snow Storm" available, it´s a good time to kill the pigeons in Algonquin. Jacob is unavailable for friend activities at this time, so the only friend calls you can get are from Roman and MIchelle (if you haven´t finishend the Brucie missions yet), so there are less disturbances while hunting for pigeons.

I start to kill the Alderney pigeons right after Three Leaf Clover but before finishing Brucies "No. 1" and before answering Dwayne´s email. This way there are still four people wanting to hang out with you (Roman, Jacob, Packie and Kate), but it´s better than six people and there are only 56 pigeons in Alderney. You can take a helicopter to most of the locations there, so you make progress much faster.

I can relate to this, I killed all 200 in a single day and I was absolutely bonkers for the rest of the week. (didn't feel like playing video games at all)

Although, they're not that bad if done 50 in a single day and they don't take that long to kill. They're fairly easy.

Have in your arsenal a pistol and the sniper rifle, and a guide with pictures alt tabbed with ur game. Then ingame, grab a pcj or a nrg start shotting everyone of them with ur pistol from ur bike, in a certain order (from south to north or viceversa). Do one island per sitting (dukes and broker can be done in two).

If theres a pigeon in a roof, climb it or or use ur sniper rifle (in algoquin especially) and when you least expect it you will be done.

Using a chopper can make ur task harder and/or more time consuming cause you cant land easily in a lot of spots, so a bike comes in handy.

Exactly. They aren't hard at all, just time consuming. Hats off you to for doing 200 in a sitting, lol...I did all 200 in 4 days. I did 50, 50, 75, 25. I was burned out after 4 days, even, and had to take a long break and think and do something else. When I did them, though, I actually did them LAST. I had like 97.50% Completion and did the 200 Pigeons dead last. If I did IV again, I'd do all of them in Broker/Dukes/Bohan at the start of the game. All 200 can be done in a Starter Save, but I don't have the skills to do these sorts of things on a 6 star wanted level like zmoonchild can do. I've watched all his Videos on Youtube if him achieving 11.95% right after The Cousin's Bellic before any other Story Missions. Really good stuff...

Those pigeons I've only done once, and in a sitting. I haven't touched IV for 2 months after being done with them. They're infuriating, and that's an understatement.

How long did it take you guys who did it all in one go? When it comes to "Hidden Packages/Red Balloons (VCS)" in III, VC, LCS, and VCS, those were quick and easy. When it came to SA with the 250 collectables, they were nowhere near as bad as these 200 Pigeons, but it takes me 2 days to finish those. I can usually do 100 Spray Tags in one go, for instance, then I can usually do the 50 Oysters, Horseshoes, and Snapshots the next day to finish them. In CW, the 100 Security Cameras were a joke, as well, and only took an hour, maybe. Nothing to it. TLaD/TBoGT 50 Sea Gulls seemed pretty quick, too. Maybe only 90 minutes each. But when it comes to IV, I feel like these 200 Pigeons are never ending. I believe it took me 8 hours give or take to do all 200 split up into 4 days.

I borrowed the official guide, then used some of the pages from that, plus my own checklist to progress each area.

I did this last, so got myself 100%.

This was the most boring and annoying collectible of the lot.

The only collectible in the main 3D/HD games that I am yet to do is the SF photo ops in SA. Everything else was straightforward enough. The best one was the 99 balloons because of the map in game.

But the type of collectable is similar in VCS compared to IV, TLaD, TBoGT, and CW. The Collectables in which you must shoot/destroy are really annoying when you get a wanted level and must get rid of it just to proceed to the next one. In VCS, I would get a wanted level after every 5-10 it seemed. Really annoying. In IV/TLaD/TBoGT, sometimes every Pigeon for 5-6 in a row, I'd get a wanted level. The police are nothing on a 1 star wanted level, but it IS still wasting time to lose the wanted level before proceeding to the next, even if it's just seconds to lose, it still adds up. In CW, I haven't a clue how I did it, but I did in fact destroy all 100 Security Cameras without even getting a single wanted level and you only can destroy them with Molotovs, lol...

The Snapshots in SA aren't anything special, really. I prefer those than any of the shooting/destroying collectables, at least.

Anyways, I am going off topic, as usual :p I can't seem to talk about ONE GTA at a time, as I like to incorporate all of them into what I am saying and show comparisons.

Well, the first time I did them I did them in the last bits of the story (before "That Special Someone), and that was 25 each for 8 days, later on I did 200 of them straight after completing "Three Leaf Clover". The last time I did them, it was the first thing I did in the game...

It's much more fun if you do them on a 6 star wanted level, they actually become a challenge at this point.

The pigeons were the worst collectibles in the entire series, as Militia already said. They take way too long to do in one sitting. I suggest doing them in sets of 10-15 and then go bowling with your cousin. Also make sure you have a sniper and a helicopter. NEVER say something like "Oh I need a helicopter for this one? I'll just remember it's location and do it later".

I missed one pigeon in my 100% playthrough and I still can't see a pigeon without crying.. I'm not the same person anymore. The svanderman that liked collectibles is dead. Now it's just the svanderman filled with pigeon-hate.

Don't kill the poor pigeons, they never brought misfortune to anyone.

@lol232, I guess it's you and zmoonchild as the only two people I know who got 11.95% in a Starter Save with only completing The Cousin's Bellic. Very good stuff. I personally never tried doing it in IV. I seem to just never understand the map. I always need GPS, but when I watch zmoonchild's Starter Save Guide on Youtube, I can't believe how well he knows the map and every single corner and alley way. I never seen anyone play like that in IV. This is what inspires me, though. Seeing what others can do with Starter Saves and Special Vehicle Collecting, it's the more challenging aspects about GTA. Starter Saves are something I JUST got into recently in the past several months, even though, I have them in III, VC, LCS, VCS, and CW. But I'd love to be able to do it in SA and IV as those are the two hardest ones to complete since 4 star wanted level in SA and 6 star wanted level in IV. But yeah, good job on that! :)

For me, it took me 7 hours, a can of coffee, and a bandage to alleviate the facedesking. It was the only thing left to do and I though "whatever, should be like any other collectible".

And that's why you shouldn't do decision making on a Sunday morning.

Yeah, like I originally said, probably 6 to 8 hours, maybe even 10 if you get lost or "think" you were already in an area that you were not :D It happened to me a few times. I had to drive away and come back to finally see it in its location. Sometimes the red that surrounds the Pigeon doesn't light up so well and you can barely see them...Furthermore, some of them are in dense locations that all look the same.

Sometimes landing the Helicopter was not practical as there was no room to land, whatever...I got it done and I am happy I don't have to do it again, even though I wish I could do it again in a Starter Save :p

I'm not going to do flying rats again. Ever. Not even if it's for the Starter Save. I'll leave it to SNT teleports. No, really. Once you get past 50 you're bound to backtrack one or two.

The Mysterious One

I think I have about 132 left to do. So I was kind of on a roll before, but then I remember that I was not even halfway done. All I can do right now is maybe trying doing about 25-to-30 in one day and leave the rest for another day or so. When it comes to collectibles in the GTA series, the others were not as bad. At least in V when you do the letter scraps or the spaceship parts, they don't seem as tedious. San Andreas' collectibles were not as bad as long as I did them when I was in one area, like the gang tags while in Los Santos in Act One, then the photo ops while in San Fierro and then the horseshoes in Las Venturas, while doing the oysters all the way through.

By the way, how bad were the seagulls in Episodes from Liberty City?

Also, I found that Hunting them down at Night also helped immensely, as the Glow was brighter. :)

Yeah, they are the exact same as IV's Pigeons, but in TLaD/TBoGT, since there is only 50 it's much easier. It only took me 90-120 minutes or so for each set of 50 and for those, you can even do them at the beginning of the game and without a Wanted Level since all parts of Liberty City is open from the start of the game.

How long does using a Trainer take? 400 seconds (200 Pigeons, each taking 2 seconds to shoot = 400 seconds....Meanwhile it should take 6-10 hours, lol)? :D I don't see why anyone has pleasure doing stuff like that. I wouldn't even want to play GTA if I used that stuff...

I'm not completely sure but there was a glitch that prevented you from reaching the 200 mark if you tried to kill the pigeons during the story missions. So, its better to kill them outside the story.

That's the only tip I could think at the moment.

Its actually not worth trying if this is your second time.

I got a couple of good pigeon maps and did lots and I mean lots of study of their locations. Then I kept my laptop open in Paint and as I killed each pigeon, I marked it off in Paint with a red circle. Then, when I was ready to save game, I just saved the map and labelled pigeonsone and the 2nd map I named pigeonstwo so I knew which was which. I think it took me a week in between work to complete them. I remember one needed a heli to get to. It was up in a steeple tower next to the Arts center.

Even without NEEDING a Helicopter, I still used one for most of them. The one, or a couple in the Airport for instance, instead of going into there and getting a 5 star wanted level, I just landed the Maverick on a nearby building top and sniped it from a distance. No wanted level. The one in the UN Building, which also gives you 5 stars, you just stand on top of a car from the outside and snipe it, thus no 5 star wanted level for going in there. From the gunshot, though, you will get a 1 star wanted level since you're standing next to a bunch of cops, lol...
