Mister Pink
Jessica Chastain is an incredible actor. For those that haven't seen it. For context, Oscar Isaac is an oil/gas businessman in New York in 1981 (statistically New York's most violent year). Chastain's father is crooked but Isaac's character is supposed to be honourable but we're always left guessing. Anyone familiar with the mafia at that time knows that Michael Franzese, a capo of the Colombo crime family had this racket where they could defraud the government out of millions of dollars worth of gasoline. Well, the detectives started looking at Oscar Issac's character as someone a part of that racket, and in this scene, they're about to raid their home during a birthday party. Riveting film. Don't expect much action or violence. It's a more thoughtful film than that. RARusk
Saw it opening night in 1991 when I was living in San Francisco. A friend of mine from there was able to see it before me because she was friends of one of the people at ILM. I actually have some interesting souvenirs from ILM that I acquired during my all too short stay at LucasFilm Games. Lonely-Martin and Mister Pink 2 "One day I will think of this as just another job. Also, didn't know you worked at LucasFilm Games. My just a bit younger and I wasn't old enough to see T2 in the cinema. However, my parents rented it for us to see. I remember watching it on VHS. Mind was blown. I even remember my old best friend and I playing Terminator in the schoolyard. Him pretending to T-800 and me as the T-1000. Good times. Probably far too young to appreciate Terminator in all it's glory but as kid, I just seem to get it. It seemed to make sense. That's why as an adult and I watch it, I still get the same chills. I'm impressed that these films still impress me as they do my young self. @Lonely-MartinYou got it or it's going to be? It's going to be my first 4K Blue-Ray or Blu-Ray in general. Never bought a Blu-Ray before. I have it, it was my first dip into 4k though I've not bought too many 4k's just yet. It comes with the 3d version too which I can't yet watch at home though unfortunately but may upgrade the TV so I can, one day at least. Like you mentioned, I was too young to watch it upon initial release, and the original Terminator was an 18 back then and was a big no-no with my folks, lol. Ahh, those days of sneaking round a mates to catch it on TV/video. But it soon became a home video favourite and have since owned the movie on VHS, DVD, BR and now 4k, man, I so wanted to be John Connor, lol. Grew up a little envious of Edward Furlong at how he got so lucky to get plucked out for that role! I've seen many movies over the years and re-watched many from my youth that I loved and hadn't seen for a while with mixed results (some being more powerful that I couldn't comprehend as a kid/teen - Blade Runner for example - Another I have in 4k, lol, others just naff, mostly horror, ha ha), but T2 is one I can't help but watch every now and then and just be so engrossed into the movie right from the opening you highlighted above, and it's since become one of my son's favourite movies too. We quote lines so often, enjoy mocking Arnie's terrible smile, and everytime we hear Bad to the Bone, it just sends my hairs on end at just how much I love this film. Course, The Terminator is absolutely class too, but this sequel is just so special for me. I'll never not have a copy to watch anytime I fancy. Favourite scene for me? Too many, lol. Love the bike/truck chase, but from the moment it all kicks off at Cyberdyne to the end is just magical. So tense, from the T1000 comandering the helicopter to the moment John realises there's one more chip to destroy. I was skeptical of 3D and I still think it can be a bit of a novelty. Well, actually, It was my first and only 3D I forgot to mention that it was crazy that my parents rented it. They aren't much film heads and while I'd say they aren't super strict, it just seems so out of the ordinary for them to do such a thing. I knew this at the time. It sounds like you have a nice little collection. This is why I'm looking forward to my Series X. There are some films I want to get 4K Blu-Ray. Blade Runner would be one! The Revanent, Ghost Busters 1 and 2, Batman '89, Apocalypse and some of the more recent Star Wars. Yep, totally agree with you about T2 in relation to T1. Love Gotham City in this movie. Lonely-Martin
@Mister Pink. Oh, The Revenant is so beautiful with its cinematography. I only have that on regular blu ray but its still stunning there too. Such an immersive film to be drawn into and a great turn from Leo. The Hateful Eight is a bit too, especially if you like snow. Red Dead 2 gave me great vibes of both those movies and once my PS5 arrives, I hope that game (and others) can really take that up another level. Just so absorbing. I've seen some pictures of Cyberpunk too, looks amazing and though the first person aspect will be new to me, I hope it is a game that I can adjust to as I'd really like to give it a good try being a Blade Runner fan among others in the genre and role playing games. Going back to The Terminator and that era with how parents would be unsure if they'd be suitable or just not allow us to watch those kind of films, compared to today with how popular movies/TV like Deadpool or The Walking Dead are with younger viewers, it's amazing how times change and tolerances. So many old 18's being downgraded to 15's including the original Terminator of course. Things today are not just more violent (or crude) in places, but the detail is so impressive in many cases. Far more detailed these days but with the way the internet changed viewing and access/advertising etc, its crazy to think I grew up with a relatively tame Child's Play 3 being banned over here due to a real life tragedy (see: Jamie Bulger). That was caught up in a real storm of bad press, but now we've had the Saw or franchise make it look literally like child's play! But then again, the Terminator movies are so much more violent than the generation before too, so now I fully realise more what my folks and grandparents would say. Movies like the original Dracula and Frankenstein or the 30's gangster flicks like Scarface are pretty much PG these days but Frankenstein particularly I remember was very taboo and had to be cut or in Scarface's case, lead to the production code being created. Crazy how it goes, sorry for the long one, just an aspect in film I've always found interesting really.

If you are like me and can get lost in the beauty and detail of the city, I think you'll be fine adjusting. I'm guessing you are more familiar or have a preference with third-person games? I once could probably same the same of myself but, after sinking many hours in to Fallout, Skyrim etc, I'm actually now glad Cyberpunk is in first-person. Because you are dealing it people face to fact where you are making choices/decisions and also interacting with the environment, it begins to make more sense than game like GTA where you can benefit from a wide field of view. I don't know.. I like FP as much as 3P now. But that wasn't always the way. Also, in games like Fallout you need to identify junk/items/ammo/collectibles etc in a very detailed and muddled environment. First person view certainly helps scavenging. And I know we are off topic but I'll try relate it back to movies.. I think CDPR are committed to doing cyberpunk so well. It will certainly be the closes game to Blade Runner we've ever had, if not ever, going forward. 13 hours ago, Lonely-Martin said: Scarface's case, lead to the production code being created. Yes! You know your stuff! _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Want to re-watch Under The Skin. This movie is genius. Actually for anyone that hasn't seen it. Some scenes they used hidden cameras in the van Scarlett Johannsen was driving. She picked up unsuspecting people. Some were actors, others didn't have a clue. Also you can see in this video she enters a shopping mall but the cameras are hidden and thankfully nobody recognized her. Spoilerish. This is the ending. Lonely-Martin
@Mister Pink. Indeed I am largely a 3rd person chap, lol. Although with Minecraft I quite enjoy and am very used to first person view and totally understand what you mean by the detail in looting/scavenging etc too. Often in RDR2 I go first person when it pops up saying I'm full of some items in case there are others in the draws etc. I do believe my desire to get stuck into something new will beat out that early spell of a different view. Looking forward to it. Plus of all movies to pay tribute to, Blade Runner is so loved by its fans that they really have to deliver something with a spark of that magic I feel. You really can only try if you mean to do it so well. Anyhooo, back to the movie scenes. I've not seen the movie above you mentioned so won't watch the clip but I'll keep an eye out for it as I often do enjoy a bit of Scarlet. Last night the kids chose to watch both Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla: King of the Monsters and I love those big monster movies. The stories are ok, acting isn't terrible like your usual B-movie blow out can be, including some real talent in these 2 from Samuel L Jackson to Vera Farmiga and more. But the action/fight scenes are terrific. Loud films, but I don't mind that. The scene in King of the Monsters when Gidora comes up was just a real highlight and the fights with Godzilla just went full on for carnage. The beasties in Kong were pretty cool too and the fight he had with the main one near the end was great fun. The teeth in that monster look scary too. Reminded me much of the fight Kong had with the 3 T-Rex's in Peter Jackson's remake, another movie I just love. Really looking forward to Godzilla vs Kong. Arrows to Athens
From one of my favourite first person movies. I love the chase scene here, and that accidental push of an extra at 6:06 was just the icing on the cake. It wasn't supposed to happen, but the director chose to leave it in anyway, which I think was a good decision. I also like how the main character tries to check if she's okay, which is most likely just the actor trying to help after he accidentally pushed her to the ground. It adds more realism. If you haven't seen this movie and you're into action and first person shooters, I highly recommend you give this a watch. Also, at 4:13: "You're half machine, half pussy." Just gets me every time. Mister Pink
@The Time RangerReally enjoyed that film. I'm not a huge fan of Lynch but really enjoyed this one. I love the Americana pulpy aesthetic Lynch has in his films though. I think it inspired the look and feel of True Romance. Well, there was kind of a few Americana 90's films that came out around the same time; Natural Born Killers, True Romance, Kalifornia, From Dusk Till Dawn and Wild At Heart. They all kind have an overlapping style; American road-movie with death a prominent feature, lol. Natural Born Killers True Romance Wild at Heart Karlifornia From Dusk Til Dawn I love the aesthetic.. In the 90's its a throwback for times before them but it was cool, even in the 90's and it ages well. This blend of 90's nostalgia now infused with 50's and 60's gear. It's nice. I think if I was ever to make a feature, I would love to do something inspired by that style. Sorry, I went off on bit off-topic. I knew there were a few films of that era that looked similar in style but it's really just become how clear there was a link in style between those films. The Time Ranger
@Mister Pink That's an interesting observation regarding the road movie theme with throwback themes to 50's and 60's Americana. It's almost like a niche sub-genre itself. Speaking of era's I fell that the nineties in movies lacked an identity maybe? Perhaps it's just ignorance on my part but different decades had movies that captures the zeitgeist of the time, and these eras had a distinct theme, eg, the counter culture 60's or the 80's where the modern blockbuster was born, like I said above perhaps it's my lack of knowledge but i'm struggling to think of a proper 90's movie that captures the spirit of the time. I must watch Kalifornia, the only one above that I haven't seen. Mister Pink
