For anyone that hasn't seen Hard Eight, I would highly recommend this Paul Thomas Anderson film.

This is as good as any film you'll see in the cinema. Remarkable cinematography. The scene is set so beautiful. So atmospheric. Excellent dialogue.

Naughtius Maximus

This particular scene in Trainspotting is the sole reason why I want to watch it again. Renton's tirade is funny yet genuine at the same time. And I want to read the books (Trainspotting, pr0no and Skagboys) if I get my hands on them. Many people say that Irvine Welsh is one hell of an edgy author.

Not a big fan of this particular film, but this scene felt like it was straight out of a warner brothers cartoon

The Time Ranger

I love this scene from American Honey, context is they sell magazines, and have been sent to the oil fields to sell to the workers, the boss plays some Rihanna to pump them up and they dance for the workers, at first it's fun and joyful, but as the music fades and the workers leave they're left with the realization that they have targets to make, and their knife edge reality comes back to the fore. The spiral of emotions from happiness to despondant happens so suddenly and encapsulates the themes of the movie well.

@TwistOfLime21 Speaking of head bashing, here's an extremely realistic-looking baseball bat head bash scene from the movie Frayed (2007). Considered to be one of the most disturbing and graphic scenes ever shot on film. Impressive for an independent film that was made on a shoestring budget.

Fucccck. Man that was brutal. Quite realistic too, I might add. If you've ever seen any of those gore videos on the web, you'll soon realise how resilient humans are to death. But Hollywood has sort of conditioned us to believe that one bullet and it's instant death. Over in a second. But the fact you can hear audibly her voice well in to it is pretty realistic. And how they did the make-up is incredibly. Would love to know how they shot that.

Disturbing all right. Felt that in my stomach.

As you requested buddy! I agree such a disturbing, gory and realistic death, I don't know if you notice at one point she looks just a tad bit similar to smiley when she gets her head bashed in.

I relished how the filmmakers used such phenomenal competency aptitude to produce such a realistic and relentless death scene!!

I admired this scene from The Visit (2015) it was so ethical and satisfying, how Becca used a shard of glass to eradicate the deranged pretence grandma is beyond me..

such a good take from the movie!

That's actually how I discovered the film. I was browsing through BestGore.com and came across a post about an extremely realistic death scene involving a baseball bat to the head. It said that this scene circulated on the Internet several years ago and tricked many into believing it was actually real. The post praised the special effects crew for doing a spectacular job. I had never seen or even heard of the film before.

I decided to check it out and the plot actually strongly reminded of Halloween, which is, of course, my favourite horror film of all time, so I had to give it a watch. My friend PicklePrick posted the video on how it was executed above me. For a low budget independent film, that scene was really well done. The way they used digital effects to shoot that scene was smart. I highly recommend watching the film, though. I would even go as far as to say that this movie is worthy of having a cult following. No joke.

I actually posted my review of the film in your thread 'What are some of the best lesser-known Horror films?' a few weeks ago. It's basically Halloween meets High Tension. That's all I'm gonna say. Don't wanna spoil anything. Best to go in blind. This film will have you thinking after it's over and probably watching again, too.

Thanks man. Yeah, that was a really interesting watch. Some of the techniques I kind of expected but they did it so well. I love how they recorded the tape playing off a TV to get it looking extra real. Nothing worse that bad "found tape" effects to make something look like it was shot in Hi8 when in fact it was shot on an Alexa or something.

I read on the comments actually, that a lot of people discovered it that way. Man, that website is an awful place. Found myself on it a couple of times. I don't why. I don't get enjoyment from the suffering. I guess because I craved something real or I tell myself, what if I'm in a situation that requires me to see something bad and I need to keep it together. Maybe this will prep me. Stomach is turning thinking about it.

Ah, yes, and I was intending to respond but it escaped me. I appreciate your contributions there. Haute Tension/High Tension/Switchblade Romance is great. Well, it's one of the first horrors I really enjoyed to watch over and over.

yep I agree the effects were developed by high intellectual individuals. Dude you should watch the film! my best friend @Arrows to Athens recommended me to watch the movie and I was content with it from the moment it started and the moment it finished.

I've never had the bottle to visit that site, lol. Heard plenty about but watched a couple of crazy videos called faces of death and banned in america or something similar back in the day. Way before I did this internet malarkey regularly though, a buddy had them on pirate disc.

I'm sure those videos were outright banned here in the UK and that's what drew me in to watch them like an old horror movie would. That Bumfights craze was around that time when we did watch too I think. Dark ol' place is the internet/pirate DVD's, lol.

If I'm not mistaken, that killer in don't f... with cats was on that site or one similar too. That doc reminded me of those videos we watched back in the day when I was a bit less sensitive to all that stuff as it didn't effect me too much back then, but it soon made me rethink and I felt bad for it really.

I'm good with taboo horror flicks of course, but I gotta know it is only a movie, only a movie, only a movie... Sorry, 70's advertising came to mind from an old Wes Craven and Sean Cunningham nasty, lol.

Might have to check out Frayed myself though. Gnarly clip!

Yeah, don't. I'm not sure it's worth it. There are some nasty things there. I remember seeing Faces of Death from Napster downloads back in the day. The original is up on YouTube. Think it was banned in about 50 countries. First watched it from a bootleg DVD bought at a market, lol. It's pretty awful some of the stuff in that.

That's right. I never looked for it. It's pretty terrifying. The snippets in the documentary were enough for me.  And yeah there was a phase where one in our group when we were teens love to put it on. And it was curious but horrible. As humans in the west, we're mostly sheltered from real death and destruction. So when we see it, it's shocking. I mean that in relative comparison to other living thing where death and destruction is a daily occurrence. But after watching some of those horrible videos, I'm kind of thinking that TV/film deaths are just so unrealistic. I'm not saying I need to see graphic gore and violence. Far from it. But people shouldn't die too quickly/easily. Because that's what I learned off BG. That people take much longer to die. But then again, does it have to be that realistic? Who knows. It think I was happier just being ignorant, lol.

I really feel mildly nauseous thinking about it. I don't know what is.

Great cinematography here the way we see the reflection of the protagonist in the glass door. Great film!

I know this may sound a bit crazy, but it's now on my list of favourite horror films of all time. I seem to enjoy the film the more times I watch it, especially because I catch more details that I may have missed or not paid enough attention to with each watch. This is one of those films. It's even more fun to watch with others who haven't seen it before. The also reflects on problems that can and do happen in real life. I'm telling you, this film makes you think.

The film has its flaws, like every film does, but for a first major project on a microscopic budget with a relatively unknown production crew, the film is impressively made. That death scene alone should be enough to make it a cult classic... unless only older films can be considered cult classics? I don't know.

Fun little fact: The film has two directors and five writers. You don't see that often. lol

I just watched the movie a 2nd time and re analysed it, my best friend @Arrows to Athens recommended it to me and This movie will confuse you at first but I advise you to read up on it and then watch it a 2nd time, it has ethical cinematography and special effects.

just go in blind and I hope you enjoy it just as I did. Its definitely one of my favorite horror movies.

The 2 directors are undisclosed, They are known only for this film and they did a phenomenal job on such a minuscule budget film.

you're gonna love the full fragment of the first death scene in the film!!! absolute Vile and skull bashing (like literally)

Yep, documentaries about these things/crimes are as far as I can go now as they don't go too far in what they show, I think I'm getting softer in my old age, lol. Although after the last doc I caught, I'm off those for a bit for now too. I forgot the title and don't fancy re-looking into it but did mention it in the doc's thread. I couldn't finish it though. (Struggled with the theme as it was tragically about child abuse. So sad).

Even a good war flick can see me more compassionate afterwards these days. As we get older we understand more about the real impact of things and become much more empathetic about stuff that it brings a new aspect to a movie or documentary. There's a time when I would have shrugged off or laughed off scenes that I've since watched again and it envokes different feelings altogether.

Forgive the lack of pics/link, but have you seen Saving Private Ryan? (I do assume so, lol. It was a huge hit after all, forgive me if not and SPOILER WARNING if not too). The scene where they attack the Germans defending the base near a signal tower where there's dead cattle laying around. That moment where the doc, Giovanni Ribisi, character bleeds out and is crying for his mum/to go home. Back when I first saw it, I was more preoccupied with the gore of it and how they made it look so good and the power of the scene was lost on me more back then. But now, all but welled up in what was such a powerful and memorable death scene with how deep it got. Fantastic scene from an absolute class and favourite movie that has many moments like that.

@PicklePrick, I was speaking with @Arrows to Athens the other day about that flick. Certainly on my watch list now too. Will report back once I've got to it though. Looking forward to it too, not been able to watch many movies of late but hopefully soon I can get some TV time. :)

I think you just summed it up really well in this sentence.

I'm going to post the intro to Zodiac. It's amazing. Pity the quality of this upload isn't the greatest but it's good to see, regardless. Most of the these scenes are CGI but look so real. There's a gruesome killing towards the end of the video. But look how they recreated San Francisco on July 4th in the 60's. It's amazing. I just love the views at the diner. So beautiful. The music, the line in the song "how can people be so heartless, how can people be so cruel?" just adds to the tragedy of this true-story scenario. The lyrics aren't ironic at all. That's what makes it even more horrendous.

This is cinema at it's finest. Beautiful, sombre music. Some of the best cinematography going, and just tragic, true-life events.

I can understand why people (and sometimes myself) say that OUATIH is just a nostalgia-heavy self-congratulatory wank, but this film really did grow on me.

I really liked the film grain, sepia tone aesthetic that this film had and the authentic late 60s feel that tarantino and his crew cultivated and tbh you should probably just watch it if you just wanna relax and chill

I really liked the driving scenes in particular

Those driving scenes were great. It was the song choices that done it for me. Watching Cliff floor it through Hollywood Boulevard with Joe Cocker’s The Letter playing was awesome.

The head bashing in OUATIH (terrible acronym) was presented in a comical manner whereas that was just disturbing as hell. If you didn’t tell me, I would have instantly assumed it was real. Don’t get me wrong though, I’ll be checking that movie out.

Oh definitely. I believe the main reason why many people think it's real at first is because of the way it's shot; combined with the realistic head bash sequence, and it's scarily convincing. To make the scene look realistic and genuine, it was shot on a home camcorder to give the scene a grittier 'VHS' look, and it evidently works.

There's a slightly more disturbing and brutal head bash scene in the French horror film Irreversible (2002). It's just as disturbing as Frayed, if not more.

The wounds sustained by the baseball bat in Frayed were mostly practical effects, while the wounds sustained by the fire extinguisher in Irreversible were mostly CGI. Both are disturbing nonetheless.
