"Aw man I wonder what's going on in this thread for the past few days I've been busy and haven't been able to-"

...

Oh...

I see...

I'll come back some other time then...

Before this talk of racism continues, maybe everyone should take a look at the colour of Vera's (the character, not the man behind the screen) skin and position on the leaderboard (before withdrawing).

I'm not arguing just pointing this out.

There have only been 3 people to argue against this...you...Furry_Monkey and FaithLovelace. Even the creator of this contest agrees with me. Your opinion is the outlier here.

No. I've not argued against it at all. I do disagree with the suggested necessity, but I'm not getting into a discussion about that, on purpose, because it's none of my business if you want to run that competition. I genuinely would hope it went better than this thread.

However, I've just gone back over your posts and you say that "for obvious reasons" and "as I've already stated", but you've not actually said anything other than infer racism is involved in people's decisions over the attractiveness of a character.

Basically, I don't get what other point you could be making, so maybe if you explain it then more than 7 people (the likes you've had over the posts that have had likes) would understand and get behind you.

I'm not trying to argue for the sake of it - please explain.

This may also be a good time to take note that only ~2 Misty based characters are featured in the top 20...

Hang on, but am I reading right? Are the judges being accused of being racist in this competition, and therefore we need another competition for the victims of said racism?

I didn't even noticed it until you said something about this, they all look "pale" to me.

What? It wouldn't be the same characters. I don't understand what you're trying to say. I'm not getting your outrage about this.

What's stopping the same characters from entering, unless your going to limit the entries. The only limit to the entries to this topic was they had to be female, so anything you do to give them the chance you think they missed, is by nature going to make it less fair and just pander to your own feelings of misjustice (Just await the Miss Justice compeition to come along next now... :miranda: )

Look at my posts...look at the different posts agreeing with my sentiment. Look at the posters liking my posts...and how can you still say that this is all in my head? That is why I say you have on blinders.

So far your the only one arguing for this, I don't see anyone else jumping forward, You clearly have some major issue here, and it's all in your head.

There is a wee difference between not having something against a parallel competition and supporting it, or agreeing with the reasons behind it existing :) . I am really not trying to start an argument here, but there is a distinct difference in there, and using it as a justification just cheapens the argument.

[EDIT] There is a bit of difference between "Yeah, sure, I don`t mind another Miss contest" and "I think you need to host another Miss because I think contestants were noted badly because of the color of their skin".

However, I've just gone back over your posts and you say that "for obvious reasons" and "as I've already stated", but you've not actually said anything other than infer racism is involved in people's decisions over the attractiveness of a character.

I'm not trying to argue for the sake of it - please explain.

OK.

I'm not inferring racism all. You guys brought that in..to be clear.

I'm inferring bias. Bias doesn't always equal racism and everyone has a bias. We're human...we're socialized to have a bias. As judges you can try to be as objective as possible but you bring your bias with you...as anyone would.

There is a preference (bias) for Misty/Hannah (and some other mother) genetics you can see it in the contest...you can see it in the Show Your Character thread. People tend to make small nosed trout pout Misty clones with pale unblemished skin (sometimes tan). Now there is nothing wrong with that. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder as the saying goes.

However, when you put together a contest judging looks of characters...and most favor one type of character...other characters are out before they even jump in.

As I stated...I noticed a lack of diversity (participation) last year...and it got worse this year and my private talk with XS confirmed my suspicions...that people weren't entering cause they felt they stood no chance with the black, Asian and other characters.

Now it's one thing if people don't want to participate because they think the premise is stupid/waste of time/etc. But to not participate because you know your character of color stands no chance because of more realistic ethnic features? That's a problem.

So it's not bitterness but finding a hole and plugging it.

So far your the only one arguing for this, I don't see anyone else jumping forward, You clearly have some major issue here, and it's all in your head.

I suggested it others agreed. Once again your blinders have changed this into an argument. The only argument has been against it.

t of difference between "Yeah, sure, I don`t mind another Miss contest" and "I think you need to host another Miss because I think contestants were noted badly because of the color of their skin".

I have no plans too don't worry... I just find it odd that your claiming to be hard done by and jumping on your high horse before trying to push the most restricted competition so far.

So you want realistic looking characters, rather than people picking facial qualities which would come out of a recipe book for cliched pretty girls? That sounds reasonable, and I do understand. But that has nothing to do with skin colour. You could pick the darkest skintone possible in the game and still apply those features.

Sorry, but bringing colour into this, rather than leaving it at just "more realistic looking characters", *is* suggesting racism.

It also sounds like "why do pretty girls always win?" Yes, that more often than not seems to be the way in life, but sadly there's no such thing as "fair".

So, between the following 3 entries:

I should vote the second, because she has better tan and the third for better hair, or ethnic diversity? Is this what some of you are trying to say? Even if the first one comes from here?

MEh I agree with miss malevolent I mean why the hell not if someone wants to create a contest they DO NOT NEED BLESSINGS from NOBODY!!!

I live in l.a. their is alot of ethnicity themed contest all the time it's not unheard of, I don't see the big deal in making another contest if you don't agree don't participate end of argument

That's one way of looking at it...another is it's a niche market I'm filling. Miss Black America existed not cause girls weren't pretty...but they were judged on a different playing field. This did not diminish or enhance Miss America. But it plugged a hole.

But what you suggest excludes a portion of people that you say also would never have won this competition. The white girls that don't have those obvious features - what about them? Can they enter the competition that you're talking about?

Miss Paleto Bay is available. Hell just like in real life we can have a pageant season. There is Miss America...Miss U.S.A...Miss Universe etc. Well...Miss Los Santos...Miss Paleto Bay...Miss Ethnic San Andreas. And maybe Mr. Los Santos is coming. People who want to put in the effort like XS has done...should.

But can a white girl who would never have won this competition, due to not having those obvious features, be able to enter your competition, or would it literally a competition for non-white characters?

Despite opinions about the type of character that may or may not win this competition, there has so far been no suggestion that skin colour would come into it, apart from your suggestion of an ethnic beauty contest for those people who would not win this.

And what's so wrong with that? I can literally count on one hand the number of characters I come across (especially female) that do go beyond the largely white stereotypes and it would give people the chance to play around with what is quite literally a very poorly constructed character designer for anyone that actually wants to do make a character that's other than white Caucasian.. I mean come on, have you seen how unflattering some of the lineage actually is?

And since you people like Vanessa Williams

over-40-vanessa-williams-0710-de.jpg

There is no question that she is a beautiful woman in her 40`s or above, but she will NEVER be "Miss" at that age, nor does she have the "face" to compete to begin with. SO, why shoudl this competition be any different or less fierce?

Yep, and that of course isn't prejudice or anything because it's against the white people, and that's completely allowed!

You know why we have more than one belt in boxing? Because they need more "winners", as it was clear very early that there will always be ONE Ali, or Tyson, or Klitschko, so they invented more and more "titles".

The question here is: Do we need more titles and why?

And what`s wrong with "Miss Realism" vs "Miss Ethnic"? Why cannot you change it, so we have universal entry, as opposed to only non-whites?

It's not against white people. Calm down. Besides we're talking about fictitious characters on a video game. They're not people...they're pixels.

This is a showcase of the creativity of the owners of ethnic characters being judged on a different playing field.

Wonderful idea. And why don`t you make it Miss Realism, instead of artificially limiting entries? It will be REALISM, which is universal and rewarding realistic... pixels, as opposed to ... inverse segregation.
