Interesting...

Check this https://support.rockstargames.com/hc/en-us/articles/225410988-GTAV-PC-Cloud-Saves

Even though it's meant for V, there is something curious about it...

Cloud_Save2.jpg

See the numbers in the bottom right corner? 1.1.3.0

The latest patch released for EFLC was 1.1.2.0...

Social's Club latest version is 1.1.9.6, so that's not the Launcher Version...

Also, kek font rendering.

That's not all there is to it. Not only the font rendering is very Linux-like, but so are the checkboxes in this picture in that article:

59kCJNe.jpg

Compared to this article where it's Windows: https://support.rockstargames.com/hc/en-us/articles/225412588-GTAV-PC-Cloud-Saves-Accessing-Conflict-Backups7

Y4UYepk.jpg

Note the lack of version numbers too.

OS X's font rendering does not look like that in any circumstance. Those big check boxes with those gradients are usually very common in Linux. But because it has so many distros, it's hard to identify which. I know I've seen some like those before, but I can't recall which distro is it from the top of my head.

A lot of Linux apps which were once based on Windows usually have aliased fonts like that. I think it only makes sense, because of the VMC Bigfoot thing, plus the IV updates.

Also, isn't Mac OS based on Linux Architecture? Hence the similar Fonts, etc.

It's based on the UNIX architecture/kernel, that's different. It's a completely different OS. As I said, OS X does not present fonts like that.

These seems to be the ones utilized in the moment...

I don't know since I can't access the login screen which probably has one of these.

- remove GFW f*

- make easier RSC login

- fix high end GC not recognised

- fix sea bug with ATI cards

- make the game x64 compatible

- do not touch the game itself for eventual optimisation. i don't want a V eirsatz. with stable graphics but c* handling and less street activity. because this is what awaits us if an optimisation is done. let me be alone with my lags, i love lags, please

if you keep this game on sale, you need to focus on the above. it could be a Steam controller fix. as the game has minor issues with the pad here

Lools like this update stuck again.

It will be really funny, if they test smth like GTA IV 10th Anniversary Edition, and will release it in 2018 ))

Hmmm, they had left it months without a single update... Judgding by the recent "commits" they are still working on it, so I think we're fine.

Also, I'd be skeptical and not set myself with big expectations. It's more likely we'll just see a GFWL removal, with maybe a slight performance improvement and a few crash fixes. Other than that... I don't know.

It took CodeMasters almost two years to fully remove GFWL from Dirt3, by the looks of it the implementation of GFWL was similar on Both titles. They will most likely remove GFWL sooner or later, since SocialClub and GFWL are one of the main reasons GTA4 is been getting very low scores on Steam. I am amazed how fast DarkSouls removed GFWL, even Nordic removed it from RedFactionGuerrilla.

I don´t really expect any sort of performance improvements, since these take considerable amount of resources by rewritting code. yet again... there was an article regarding TakeTwo and Remasters, they actually like the idea but they also claim that it would be Rockstar decision and if they do so in a better more artistical way (what ever that means). You guys remember those GTA4 Middle-Park screnshots from a Rockstar Games Artist in GTA5 engine that later got deleted from the guy art portfolio? it could be that they are infact doing a nice remaster, or that they had plans for GTA5 and was later scrapped? maybe they were just messing around with porting the Game or Assets from GTA4 into GTA5 for testing purposes, such in the way Bethesda first ported Skyrim into Xbone and later become Special Edition.

What ever, just get rid of GFWL/SecuROM and update SocialClub to the version GTA5 is using and i'm good, I'll even buy it again if they don't give it to previous owners.

etayorius, of course, any update would be appereciated. But, in fact - removal of GFWL/SecuROM/SocialClub means nothing for performance, or gameplay. You can just use xliveless to get rid of all this stuff. I have a feeling, that smth really new for GTA IV will come not sooner, then in 2018 - 10th anniversary. Rockstar deliver smth for every 3D Era GTA's on 10th anniversary, and IV should be the same. As for iOS/Android - smartphones definitely too week for game like this, so it might be PS4/One release, and hopefully new patch for PC, or complete remaster.

R* please don't make a remaster of IV. don't get me mad with this. IV is perfect, please don't mess it. only remaster IV needs is to make it x64 compatible, that would be the greatest remaster ever

Presumably making it 'x64 Compatible' would also make the Game better Optimised, correct?

Making an x64 executable doesn't mean anything for a 2008 game. The main advantage of x64 is that the exe can grab more than 3 gigs of memory, and GTA IV does not need that, at least not that much that it would be worthwhile. X64 CPUs also have some extra instruction sets but I'm not sure how helpful they would be. Again, it's a 2008 game.

Most importantly, rewriting the code from 32-bit to 64-bit is far from simple unless it's being designed that way from scratch.

The main problems with IV PC lie elsewhere; shaders that were made with consoles' architecture in mind, and the PC version using emulation layers for X360 code. They'd need to dig really deep to rewrite and optimize all that sh*t. Of course at that point they probably might as well make it x64 with support of some new instructions, but that's simply not the biggest issue at hand.

My guess is they could probably transplant bits of GTA V codebase back into GTA IV, but I have no idea how feasible that is. Just because it's all called RAGE engine doesn't mean much. It's more likely to be as much a difference as between Unreal engine 4 and 3 - similar art pipeline concepts but very different technology underneath.

In other words, R* would really have to want to do it and they'd have to aim to redo the whole graphics engine, possibly rebuilding or recompiling a lot of the game assets. And I really wouldn't hold my breath for that.

Worse, even if something like that actually happens, it's bound to bring other issues, just like what was the case of the SA remaster. You can be sure that if R* somehow undertakes a huge project like that, they won't leave the game alone and keep tinkering with it until it's barely recognizable.

Knowing R*, I am pretty sure that remastered IV would have dumbed-down driving physics, cut songs and replaced textures. I don't want it.

Yea, I find it very unlikely they'd leave everything as is.

The game does have some genuine issues and annoyances. Like the bike physics or friends calls (esp. that the friendship stat goes down if you turn them down, but if you accept and then cancel it stays the same). I wouldn't mind if that got fixed. But other people may hate other things, like difficulty during some sections or whatever. Maybe the devs would like other things. Asking them to leave things alone is rather difficult.

Imagine you need to re-read and retype your own book you wrote 10 years ago. You'd probably fix the typos, maybe change a word here and there. It may make the thing more readable but may also feel odd in some ways.

Don't forget that a lot of the features (and issues) in GTA IV were due to the hardware at the time. Just look how differently the game already looks on 360/PS3 vs. PC with HQ textures. A lot of the engine features were surely the result of rounding in math so it would work just right to work with the available power at the time while not breaking the rest of the engine. A lot of compromises basically. That's how game development works.

Redoing a lot of stuff does not just give new opportunities to change things, but the changes may come on their own (e.g. different ways to round/calculate math) and then it might require extra work to just make things the way they were originally. And damn I've been through enough QA processes to tell you that "make X work the same as Y or as before" is one of the most annoying things the dev may get to do.

BTW off topic but came to my mind. A few years ago my country got a new official translation of the Bible. It's been in the works for decades maybe and incorporated all the new knowledge and modern language. They literally changed the spelling of Jesus' name to be a more accurate translation. You can bet there's been a lot of outrage over it since lots of people find the new translation too clinical and not as poetic as the previous version. Just wait when someone gets to revise King James and the meaning of the word translated as virgin :monocle:

So, they might be fixing the PC port after almost 8 years?

Finally.

The main advantage of x64 is that the exe can grab more than 3 gigs of memory, and GTA IV does not need that

IV actually does check if it has 2 (32-bit OS default), 3 (32-bit with /3GB switch) or 4GB (64-bit OS) memory available so that's not entirely true.

And yet it still runs like a piece of sh*t, at least in my experience.

yeah but i prefer that level of excellency, than an ultra smooth game but with nothing inside. Check V even with x64 support, it is far from IV in term of richness. even a x64 conversion scares me, it could be done by guys that didn't make original game, and could mess the whole thing up. yes IV is sometimes a bit laggy but the engine is extremelly efficient, and it greatly manages the ressources. there are almost no bugs, no crashes even with huge modding. why i want a x64 conv is because now my 4 gig GC could be recognized and this couldn't be a bad thing, i think

@PhillBellic The game runs like ass because it was poorly ported/developed. You could make it use 9GB of RAM, it wouldn't help.
