I love the beautiful world R* have created.

There's gonna come a time soon where they will drop the GTA bit and focus on other stuff besides killing.

That's why I don't play single player.

I love exploring and seeing the crazy lifelike world.

The psycho griefers exist in real life, why do it in a game?

There is so much else to do like marvel at the way the sea has been created.

The issue isn't the players it's your perception. You bought a game about mayhem and killing, and want to frolic through flowers instead.

It's called GRAND THEFT AUTO, not Hello Kitty Island Adventure.

FTFY

Of course a game with a crime for the title will be violent. Thinking otherwise is illogical

Illogical? You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means.

Just go play death match. Oh wait, you're too skeered and unskillzed for that.

If you're gonna respond with a meme at least don't be so lazy that you only type it. That said, you're wrong. If you weren't, you would've been able to provide an explanation as to WHY illogical doesn't work.

So go ahead, keep being a troll. It damn sure doesn't make you come off any smarter, that's for sure.

If this were a passive game, we would have an option to target only NPCs with our weapons.

So, from a set of axioms and facts, like this game is a "game about crime", you logically derived another truth that players should kill each other.

Aristotle would be impressed.

When you've spent over 3300 hours in GTA Online you tend to get bored of the usual things, so finding new things to amuse you can sometimes means seeing how you can indirectly harass other players.

Like one time I flew my Hydra under the map and kept on rotating my weapon selection so the beep-beep-beep sound of the targetting system locking on to a player kept happening, meaning they heard it too, probably scaring the crap out of them despite the fact I never fired a single shot at them, just kept on targetting them :D

Game about crime

Murder is crime

Therefore the game is more likely to focus on killing than not killing.

Explain the fault in that logic. You damn well haven't explained anything else. Hell, you're not even responding to what I'm saying. You're just responding to the post with only slightly relevant quips. Quips that have yet to further the conversation and therefore are useless.

GRAND THEFT AUTO. I'm sure plenty of people stole cars w/o resorting to murder.

Martha Stewart is criminal. Therefore she is a criminal murderer, according to your "logic".

You're confusing my logic with your own skewed version. That's not what I said at all. You seem to have skimmed over "more likely than not" which is also supported by evidence. The evidence being the majjority of the game requiring you to kill people to progress.

Way to prove your lack of rationality by comparing the game to real life.

You should start your own crew of nothing but pacifists. That way you can all hang in the lobby together and do whatever, explore, drive around. Actually I bet some griefer would just pretend and join your crew though and blast you all when you least expect it though. You'll be able to kick anyone though so it's no biggie. Think about it. I bet you'd get a lot of interested people.

He's intentionally ignoring the evidence supporting my point based on in game requirements to progress, just to fit his argument.

The why did they put guns in the game. You have some of the worst arguments I've seen

Also, deathmatches are inconsistent trash. Whoever wants to force player killers into them are oblivious to the real draw of an open world game such as this.

sympathy for OP. Free roam is an annoying place to be for those who enjoy exploring, taking pics and prefer to play with others is co-op. Friendly free roam used to be requested of R* all the time, but that's just a fantasy because R* can't make $ off of that.

Oh for f*ck's sake... Yes, sure, you can play the game however you want, but so can everyone else, and games do have a certain focus to cater to specific player bases. Choosing GTA Online to go "pacifist" and complain about getting killed - now that's just insane. That's like barging into a nudist colony and getting offended by witnessing a bunch of wrinkled dongs flopping around merrily in the warm summer breeze. In other words, there's a whole bunch of dicks in GTA: Online, but that's no surprise. Expecting otherwise is just being at odds with f*cking reality.

Go passive, or invite only, or SP, or get another game that caters more to your interests. You said you like sandboxing and exploring with other players? Try Minecraft!

Nah CoD quasi-sociopath kiddie, its because of people like you no-one can have a car meet in a public session, or even do an impromptu race. Those are some fun things to do, socialize, and meet other gamers and stuff.

YOU ruined this potentially great game. Its all your fault really.

I spent almost an hour last night trying to goad some pacifist p*ssy into a fight but he just wouldn't engage. After a while it was just him and I in the session so I checked the map and he was up in Paleto Bay. Jumped in my Hydra and stalked him for ages, he was messing about on the beach with a bike just having a good time and enjoying himself. I soon put a stop to all that nonsense.

Interesting story.. Op you actually can call for merryweather backup and they will send some goofballs in a chopper after anyone shooting near you. It's really funny you should try it..

I would have just blasted him with an rpg like others have said, but I guess that wouldn't be very pacifist though. :p

I always send a mugger after anyone that starts f*&king with my girl. It works sometimes especially if they are in cover hiding from cops and waiting to be a douche bag some more.. Its hard to explore in free-roam without someone stepping in and smoking some kippers..

(wtf does that mean exactly btw??)

Its always been that way but i still manage make friends amongst all the a$$holes..

Peace out..

Joking aside I would like some Pacifist DLC.

A horse to ride around on and maybe a cat that follows you that can't be shot.

W..t..f..? This aint war of warcraft. If I see any cats online um sticking a sticky bomb up its ass. And I love cats. But this is gta. Everyone has a their own play style. Some like to bs around and do nothing. And some like to hunt. People. Clueless explorers are ideal prey. I like to catch people shopping and put stickies in or on their car and wait for them to come out while I got lester on the phone ready to take me off the radar when I say go. Im sure you know what I do next. Edited by Cancerslug

Passive mode.

I would agree with this, but players should be able to play the game without passive mode and NOT be continually surrounded by police they did not "earn".

Examples like the OP described, not necessarily alike in severity, should not be allowed.

The world of GTA 5 is a master piece, and I too love traversing it. But unleas you wan't others to go exploring with you I see no reason why you wouldn't explore the world in single player. It looks better, runs smoother, there's more traffic, more npc's... In multiplayer, if you're not ready to defend yourself, your exploration time will be cut short.

The basic problem is that Rockstar designed GTA Online for the majority of the gamer player base. The majority of the gamer player base consists of young males who, by nature of their biology and their culture, are angsted, miserable, aggressive losers, without a shred of empathy, in a continuous emotional tug-of-war with their ego, their self-disenfranchisement with society, their frustrated lust and the realization that they are never going to amount to anything in their pathetic, wasted lives. They channel all of this into each online video game that comes along, with their only pleasure being derived from the suffering of others and the false sense of superiority they get in return.

This is a sad statement, with no actual proof of the player base at all, once again basing a game off a minority.

I can almost guarantee that even if 51% of the player base are "young males" , that all 51% of them are not egomaniacs or "sad aggressive losers", thus eliminating your majority statement.

I guess I don't really care if it's a majority or a minority. The presence of these types of people in GTA0 is undeniable. That's the point of this thread. In fact, the presence of these types of people in this thread is non-negligible as well, perhaps including yourself, good sir :)

I have to say, however, my argument is certainly crushed. :) You provided such unassailable proof for your assertion -- wow. If this is how you argue in the essays you write for school, I'm thinking D or D- average :/ if it's graded on the curve .... But you can still salvage something out of your trajectory in life - have you considered running for president? :p

Top tip - if shlt like that is going down, stay in the store and start drinking beer, though try and go off radar before the final one for the best effect.

You'll teleport to a hospital after the last beer makes you pass out and if you're off radar then they won't have a fricking clue where you've gone...

All legit and above board.. just make sure to hold down the x when pressing to drink beer as you need to drink the whole bottle...

This is pretty good in Paleto Bay btw, since you'll teleport to the hospital with the helipads in south LS...

Some people really don't get the whole "online" aspect of a game.

Almost every single game that has been released and will be released bases its "online" function on competitive, PvP gameplay. All you people who want some fairyland game where you socialise and make friends need to switch off your console and go outside into the real world and do it there!

Fifa = PvP online mode. Madden = PvP online mode.

Battlefield = PvP online mode. Mario Kart = PvP online mode.

Cock of duty = PvP online mode. UFC = PvP online mode.

The Last Of Us = PvP online mode. WoW = PvP online mode.

Uncharted = PvP online mode. Goldeneye = PvP online mode.

Halo = PvP online mode. PES = PvP online mode.

Gears Of War = PvP online mode. Splinter Cell = PvP online mode.

Gran Tourismo = PvP online mode. Assassins Creed = PvP online mode.

Need For Speed = PvP online mode. Destiny = PvP online mode.

Tekken = PvP online mode. Killzone = PvP online mode.

Mortal Kombat = PvP online mode. DC Universe = PvP online mode.

Street Fighter = PvP online mode. Little Big Planet 2 = PvP online mode.

WWE 2k15 = PvP online mode. Dark Souls 2 = PvP online mode.

Need For Speed = PvP online mode. The Crew = PvP online mode.

Forza = PvP online mode. The Division = PvP online mode.

Final Fantasy = PvP online mode. Battlefront = PvP online mode.

NBA = PvP online mode. Rainbow 6 = PvP online mode.

Command & Conquer = PvP online mode. Far Cry 4 = PvP online mode.

Saints Row = PvP online mode. Watchdog = PvP online mode.

MGS = PvP online mode. Injustice = PvP online mode.

I am getting bored typing the name of the games as its endless lol.

ONLINE = COMPETITIVE SO ALL U CRYING USE YOUR BRAIN PLEASE.

Single player is made for people who don't want PvP its pretty simple to understand really, SMH.

I can feel with you. I am a pacifist player too and i try to avoid killing other real people around me. There are some situations of bountyhunt or somebody really attacks me, then i defense. But usually i dont do. I never shot another real human player and i never started any kind of war too.

Last session i stood in the clothesstore and somebody opend the door and killed me with a grenade. I was really upset, cause i wanted to try new shoes and clothes. So i switched back to passive mode, but i dont know why men feel great to kill helpless girls or woman in that game. I always try to react peaceful and it is not fun for me, to kill other real human players. Yes, i know it is GTA and there are killing options in that game, but i prefer to drive and fly around and hang out with nice people.

I wish i could have a bodyguard like a merryweather guy protecting me. So i need to switch to passive or i am alone in invite only session.

While this is true, it also suggests how stagnant games development has become, specifically with online multiplayer as a general experience.

PvP is the simplest type of game to implement as it's easy to grasp with basic goals for the player. Works well for a game, I agree. It's also tried and tested, so I can see why a lot of development teams cater specifically to this - they know there's a market for it.

Competitive gameplay takes many forms - see the above examples, spanning many genres - but there are great games where this is not the case... Left 4 Dead's core gameplay, while also being multiplayer, revolves around teamwork... and was praised at the time of release for this reason. It also shook up playing style, so all my friends who like to run-and-gun had a rude awakening and found that it wasn't the right approach for surviving in that particular game. Undeterred by this, they kept playing, so there must have been some appeal in the change this particular game offered. Heists in GTAO should be the same, but all we seem to have is a lot of frustrated players complaining about the conduct of their peers. That's another story, though... ;)

I personally think it'd be nice to see a little more variation in online play across the board. It might also help to have variation so as not to condition an entire generation of gamers into thinking that winning at all costs and insulting every other living being around you for being less "skilled" than you are is all that matters. I've been playing games since the 80s and the amount of fronting, the need to prove oneself and venomous trash-talk that goes on now is far, far more than I ever remembered in games before.
