Why do people get upset when you kill them online?

Hi

This has been a mystery to me for a long time and I would like to get the opinion of the community.

When I go online it's always fun and everyone is running around killing eachother.

However sometimes people will send you abusive messages just for playing the game and shooting them? This has happened a few times now.

I have NEVER had this issue on games like COD or Battlefield or even destiny. Even if I shoot someone from behind in those games, people seem to just accept it. Also I'm not a hypocrite, if someone kills me then I just accept defeat.

So why do people expect not to get killed on GTA online? I mean you are walking around with like 20 guns for gods sake! Ofcourse people are going to be shooting eachother.

beats me op, I've had some people message me after I kill them and I usually ignore them unless I'm really bored.

I have killed some people and had them rage on other players mistaking them for me.

its always a silly little treat.

Hate messages ?

Its just a game.

I just go after ppl that kill me till we are seperated by me getting hungry, me needing to be somewhere, the other person leaving or server isues...

It does not mean i get mad btw, i just like killing ppl but i do not atack inocents...

When im driving my van i do that to give other players an excuse...and assholes as they are in general i am rarely disapointed by the results :)

Edit: its a missconception that you can compare this with a FPS like the ones you named though....other players also can be fun when alive and friendly.

Yeah, I've had people rage at me for killing them and then going on either passive mode, send muggers, or go off radar :D their reactions are priceless most especially when you kill them in a tank and keep calling for it once it's destroyed

Because I intentionally left you alone when I saw you approaching me, not wanting to be one of the people who shoot any aircraft.

And how as I repaid? A missle.

You ruined my crew intiation.

I'm talking to you Buzzard pilot. Anyother time I wouldn't care.

Not to the OP obviously.

I still remember all the times people used to use tanks back on last-gen, the second people would go passive when the tank griefers were in the process of spawn killing them they would start screeching on mic calling you a pussy while they sat there in their f*cking tanks. Jesus man fun times.

They're hypocrites. Someone mentioned in one of the threads that players, that go around killing yet throw a tantrum when you retaliate, pretended to be gods while others are ants.

Reminds me of Uncharted 2 when my team was severely massacred by the other team until I manage to kill one of them. Granted the other team win with a near perfect score, 49 - 1, yet one of the player that lost once sent a hate mail saying on how I'm a cheater and coward for killing him and that I should lose like everyone else. At least that is how it looks when I tried to decipher his badly written words. His pals sent similar hate, too.

I simply responded to them as "Get good and maybe you will achieve perfection someday", and then block them.

Because a GTA Game isn't a "Shoot'em" game. Then no, when I come on GTA Online, I don't expect do be killed from the first seconds. Yes I have weapon, but my character isn't psycho, nor a military nor a mass murderer, ... because i'm playing to "Grand Theft Auto".

I have 20 weapons not to kill everyone, because it's a GTA Game, I use these weapons when my "criminal character" think it's necessary to stay alive when my character try to make money with some illegal activities (defense, dissuasion, warning shots).

But in fact, I think, only kids can be upset when they are killed.

Every players on GTA Online who like griefing/annoying and kill (or trying to kill) every other players, are the only ones to yell/moan/send a PM to other players when they lose ......

When they win, there is no problem, we see them on this forum playing bosses and skilled players, and when they lose, they cry because they lose cause Randoms...........

The only persons I see people raging on the chat box, vocal chat, or PM .. are kids, with their ratio obsession, or just immature people (= "i have weapon, then i have to kill everyone....") killing everyone "first" (or trying to kill everyone first) probably like you then (OP), and died in the end.. and then cry on chat, insult people when they lose/die .....

The new fan base wanted by Rockstar is very weird, and immature actually.

There is another thread where people are fighting now, and there are 2 teams (everyone pretend to be a BIG FAN of GTA Online....):

-The first team is full of "shoot em" players (BF3-4, CoD...)

-The second team is full of "car race games" players (Gran Turismo, Forza etc...). Players thinking they love car race games, while these games are so arcady (oops, if IGN and other pro consoles magazines, sponsored by Sony and Microsoft, said "this game is a race simulator",every idiots believe it..... They really need to come on PC to have some real Car race games and see what's really a simulator with real physics...).

But the thing, all these new "false fans" of GTA Online, don't talk about "GTA Games" when they talk about GTA Online...... Good job Rockstar, the GTA games series is definitely dead.....

Why do football, basketball or baseball players get upset when the opposing team scores a goal or acquires a point against them?

Isn't this stuff extremely obvious? It's a game. Combat pits players versus players. Dying equals losing. Nobody likes losing.

You can keep bringing up K/D ratio's (hurr durr CoD fanboys), you can bring up age and (lack of) maturity and all the other boring old "arguments", but the plain and simple fact is that to most players, a death is a loss.

Losing in a game to NPC's is one thing, that's just simple failure. You respawn or restart and try again. That works when you play alone. But when you're playing in a team or when you have spectators in any other form, failure can become at least two things. One being that if it's a "real" team, you're letting them down. And with a little teamspirit, you don't want to be that guy to perform poorly and bring down the team results. The other is humiliation. Might be a big word, but that's what it is when you're playing with other people that don't care much for eachother.

When it comes to PvP, keep in mind that the internet isn't a place where everyone is always at their best behaviour. People make bad impressions and behave poorly. Random strangers tend not to have the best opinion of eachother. Now combine that with the fact that death is considered a loss. Nobody likes losing to somebody they're not very fond of. Death is usually annoying but acceptable, just so long as it wasn't caused by another player they're unfamiliar with. This is also why people use methods to avoid it that are seen as cowardly by other players, such as leaving the game after a kill to avoid retaliation, or using the suicide option to avoid being at a disadvantage (and when the police are interfering) or simply to respawn elsewhere.

And once again, one thing has two possible results. Making sure that another player doesn't get the satisfaction of killing you (winning, triumphing over you) can get you the satisfaction of having denied that them satisfaction. Handy how that works, isn't it? Cheap tactics are used to succeed in this and clearly it works, people are making threads all the time about how cowardly other players are, that they failed to kill. This is another side of the story, ofcourse, but for all the people who are bothered by not being able to kill other players because they use these methods, I have just one piece of advice for you: don't post about it. By posting about it you are PROVING that you care, and people love it, knowing that you care.

TL:DR: Dying is considered losing. People don't like losing. People dislike losing to people they don't know/like even more.

If this is not clear enough, read the rest of the post before replying.

Even if you aren't the same as the people who get upset, it's easy to understand why they do. This is a stupid question.

Send them a message asking why they get upset. Really, I do that sometimes, they usually calm down from the trash talk. Also it's funny when you have a guy calling you every name in the book and then suddenly, when decide to put your mic on, it becomes real silent all of a sudden. Lol.

This should really be common practice. They're not going to do anything to you if you're in a store (safe from vehicles) and in passive mode (safe from gunfire).

Earlier this month it happened a few times that I took each of my characters to a clothing store while in passive mode. I waited for people to move away from my property so I could drive out in relative safety and then proceeded to drive to a store. I think I used the one near the strip club. Almost every time some guy would come out of his property or a nearby mod shop and attempt to chase me. I park my car, I walk into the store and they run after me with a gun drawn. They actually tried to shoot me and stuck around for a while. One of these times another player appeared and killed the guy before driving off and taking the first idiot with him. Another time I took an NPC's car and parked it outside the store, the guy chasing me blew it up, probably thinking it was my PV. How disappointing that must have been...

Back to the subject, just go passive when you're shopping in a session with other players. Unless you know that there's absolutely noone nearby and you're only going in quickly for one thing (and you know what you're getting), you might be in there longer than you think. You get distracted and take your eye off the map for a few seconds, anyone could have pulled up outside and be ready to blast you. Lame or not, you shouldn't set yourself up for that situation and then complain about it.

I think people get upset because there really isn't a "goal" to online, you can play the way you want. Its an action adventure game and not a traditional shooter. The way I feel is if someone is doing something by themselves or with friends, I leave them alone. If you shoot at me, ill shoot at you. Other then that I mostly mind my own business.

Some people take it too far and play like assholes BUT they are entitled to play that way. Its a sandbox and should be treated at one, not a shooter.

Any time you go into Passive Mode these days will get you stupid messages like that, even if you're not attacking anyone.

Most common scenario:

Kid: I can't kill you! Come on! (Types Pu**y in message)

Boom as in explosion or as in, suddenly being killed? I don't know what platform you play on, but you should at least be safe from gunfire and explosives while in passive mode...

I do most of my activities in invite only sessions if it's an activity that doesn't require another player. But if I want to take a picture of something and I can't be bothered to leave the public session I'm in AND there are players nearby, I make sure I'm in passive mode! And if possible, in any location where players can't easily kill me with cars or motorcycles.

Boom as in suddenly being killed. Oh yes, passive mode does work you are correct. I take a lot of Snaps though, and many are target of opportunity moments. Like the sun is going down or something. Just something I'm not thinking about when I see a good picture. Or I am way away from other players and seems to be safe.

lol here is an example last night.

kFzCYEKgA06FeBH3qmNdEg_0_0.jpg

I took that pic right in front of Simeon's garage. I was all alone, what I didn't see was a green high priority vehicle hauling ass towards me with an angry mob chasing him. Almost immediately after this snap was saved, a sniper bullet ended my life. This time I was lucky. Next time I might not be.
