- Cool interiors (North Point Mall and Malibu Club)

- Hunter > Savage

- Has Seasparrow

- You can buy new houses

- Hidden packages are better than letter scraps and all the other collectibles in gta v

- 80's vibe is awesome

- Decapitation

- 6 Wanted stars instead of 5

- More fun missions

- Weapons feel better and different in some ways

- Much more unlockable rewards (Unique cars for doing sunshine autos lists, Hidden package rewards, Fireproof reward)

Everything that has been said so far is true.

-The dialogue is funnier
-The cops are more fun to mess with

-Basically The entire game with it's story and features were amazing for a 2002 game and still is. Who could forget the nostalgic feel of vice city?

Buying business properties actually feels important and relevant to the game. The missions relating to them are more fun too.

I'm gonna be a hypocrite after this

-Better location (Coming from someone who's from LA in real life)

-Crouching (Crouching > Stealth)

-Better and more fun missions

-Better safe houses

-Better 100% reward(s)

(Really, all you get in V was another mission to see Bigfoot, ability to see UFO, and a T-shirt for Franklin. I know Tommy gets another outfit too but at least you get the ability to have bodyguards and unlimited ammo

-Ability to enter a club you bought or anytime in general (Is it really hard to keep Tequila-La club open or at least make Bahama West Mamas open on next gen because it has an interior? Little off-topic but that's one of the only things I hate about TBoGT, making Bahamas Mamas enterable only once)

-Not too many features (so you actually enjoy them instead of being overwhelmed and not knowing what to do first)

-Not too crazy missions and characters (so you're not feeling like the game is laughing in your face)

- More melee weapons (seriously, who doesn't like running around with a katana :colgate:

- Sea Sparrow helicopter

- Multiple safehouses

- Stock racing/Demolition Derby :D

- "You're out of touch, I'm out of time, But I'm out of my head, when you're not around" (seriously, this is the best song featured in any GTA game)

- Best soundtrack

- Tommy Vercetti

- Better soundtrack (Seriously, what other game might beat VC's soundtrack. Probably MGSV's whooping 1980's hits on the cassette would be just as good as VC's soundtrack.)

- The most flashy and vibrant GTA game

- Most atmospheric GTA game tied with IV, but for different reasons.

-V's storyline sucked

-V's characters weren't that good (besides Trevor, the game should've been based around him and he should've been the one picking Michael or Franklin's fate)

-South American 80's accents >>>>>> Central American XXI century accents

-Phoenix > Gauntlet

-No dealing with annoying 'hood' accents (or with annoying gangbangers who don't wanna leave the hood)

-Game is based (mainly) on Miami Vice and Scarface, great TV show and greater movie

-Forgot to mention: the RPG can hold way more rounds ;)

Ooh! This is a good one. And since it's not in the V section we won't have to worry about fanboys throwing a massive temper tantrum in here.

Aside from graphics Vice City is about 100% superior to GTA V.

-First off, the main character is actually (relatively) likeable. THIS IS HUGE! In Vice City you feel like Tommy's partner in crime. His silent accomplice. Is Tommy not a nice man? Definitely. But you wouldn't be so nice too after 15 years in the slammer after being set up. Tommy is such a better protagonist than all three of V's protagonists. He doesn't whine and complain and mope like Michael, he's not a pushover like Franklin is, and most importantly he's not a psycho rapist like Trevor. I understand that GTA pro tags arent supposed to be nice, but there's where a point where even assholes like us have to say enoughs enough. Human stew. That's where I draw the line. I know that now.

-The Story: What an amazing thrill ride! Vice City is surging with such an amazing energy. You can actually feel the love the devs put into this game. The game starts out with a great setup: taking us back to Liberty City in 1986 to have none other than Tom Sizemore as Sonny Forelli introduce us to Tommy. If Tommy is able to scare these hardened mafia goons, then he must be one bad mothef*cker! It's such a great setup to the story and jumps right into the action, unlike the lame opening for V just had Michael whining in his therapists office(while the opening heist was admittedly cool, the pacing gets killed completely by the boring therapist scenes after) The story is just so COOL. It's fast paced violent and chaotic, just like the real Miami in the 80s

-The city: Miami is just a cooler setting than LA. Hands down. The neon, the hotels. Starfish Island. Even the enter able skyscrapers in the Downtown district are all really cool and fun to explore. It's also closer and more faithful to Miami than V is to LA. They completely messed up Hollywood boulevard!

-The guns: THIS IS HUGE. The guns in this game feel way better than the guns in V. There is a HUGE difference in feel between the Ruger and the m4. Compare that to the difference between the AK and m4 in V, of which there is little. The guns sounds are just about perfect. Tommy's animation of walking forward while firing the pistol while it has these huge deep boom sound effects are one of the most badass things to see in all of video gaming.

-The Satire is Better: The humor is funnier and more clever in Vice City. VCPR is funnier than anything in the past two HD era games combined. Back then they used subtlety with their satire instead of bashing you over the head with annoying stereotypes and vulgarity.

-The rewards: This game had REAL rewards like unlocking guns at your safe house, bodyguards, military helicopters and outfits instead of shooting 200 pigeons and getting a heicopter that spawns normally as a reward. (Im STILL f*cking pissed off about that!)

-The sense of progression was way better: You start out in a hotel room with no money. You eventually get a huge mansion and properties all over town. These properties are enterable and feel real. The property missions aren't hastily tacked on like they were in V. They had real cutscenes with voice actors and everything. V was a major step backward in this direction, but they only hastily added properties after fans freaked out (rightfully so) about there being no properties in the game. What do you get by the end of V? Michaels living in the same house started in with roughly the same life he had before. Yes he works at a movie studio but there's never actually anything to DO there. So really the whole movie studio arc is pointless.

-The soundtrack: Do I even have to go into this one? While V has a handful of good tracks, VC's soundtrack utterly decimates it. There is not a single radio station that has a song I don't absolutely love. this game has the greatest soundtrack in GTA history.

I could go on and on, but these are just off the top of my head. I honestly feel like Vice City was made during a golden era for R*, and with the way R* is going now, I really am scared that we will never see anything like it ever again.

@Maibastsu545 I totally agree with you. One thing I want to emphasize is the satire. You're totally right about that, in HD universe the satire is getting to a point where it's painful, even ruining the game's tone, because :

1. it is omnipresent

2. it's to obvious, blunt & dull

OT :

The story and vibe of the game.

If I had to compare the game to a movie it could be any good Scorsese 80's mob flic, Scarface, or even the series Miami Vice, since the game seems to be inspired from these themes and aesthetics.

GTA V doesn't really have a vibe, except the fact of it depicting a total decadent america and constantly being in a sarcastic tone, which does get annoying quickly. It doesn't have the spirit Vice City has.

Otherwise the protag is way more charismatic, even though I like Steven Ogg, he has nothing against a Ray Liotta or a Phillip Micheal Thomas.

The soundtrack is just amazing, the best in the franchise even though this is more of a personal opinion.

The cool vehicles and everything said before by other members, I litereally liked every post here.

Oh yes, the melee weapons and hand combat. I'm not sure whether there was any mission including melee or fighting in V...

*sighs and stares nostalgically out of window thinking about the katana*

I don't remember if there are many missions, if at all, that require melee weapons explicitly. I can only remember taking down Micheal's gardener, there may be more. It's been a while since I've played any missions in V.....

Pretty much all the reasons I have to say are already covered in details.

All I will say is, Vice city is/was/ and always will be my favorite GTA, and honestly, its a LOT better than IV and V both, easily!

Sure, graphics and those details are where every old game loses its point when compared to the newer, modern ones, but for someone like me who still plays GTA 2 giving not a sh*t about looks, its ultmately the gameplay that matters to me, and I think Vice city is evergreen in this regard.

Since I love to mod my games, even those details and rough edges are not even a bigger flaw anymore. Vice citys' atmosphere is just so amazing that I don't ever see myself from stop playing the game, at all.

Just No. Its a classic!

IMO the only thing VC has over V is the interiors, though of course they're quite dated and lacking in detail. But the Mall interior will always be something I remember from gaming over the years, I spent so much time going crazy in there. It felt like a revisit to State of Emergency.

I'll always remember the music from the Vice City mall. It's always fun to go in there and kill people, and steal the vehicle and drive inside with it.

Is this seriously necessary? You're juxtaposing a 2000s video game based on the 80s from the PS2 system to a more modern video game from a new console. There's obviously going to be disparities, especially since both of them are from different decades. So let's stop comparing the two already, because both games are good in their own way.
